Lower kidney function is known to enhance cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. It is unclear which estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) equation best predict an increased CVD risk and if prediction can be improved by integration of multiple kidney function markers. We performed structural equation modeling (SEM) of kidney markers and compared the performance of the resulting pooled indexes with established eGFR equations to predict CVD risk in a 10-year longitudinal population-based design.

Article Synopsis
  • Testicular teratomas are the most common type of testicular germ cell tumors, and their occurrence is on the rise, posing challenges in regenerative medicine due to their potential development from induced pluripotent stem cells.
  • The study found that GANP, a gene linked to testicular germ cell tumors, is consistently overexpressed in human postpubertal-type teratomas, indicating its role in teratomagenesis.
  • A new mouse model (CAG-ganp) was created to further investigate the relationship between GANP and teratomas, revealing that overexpression of GANP leads to a higher frequency of teratomas in the testes and uterus, suggesting a connection to the origins of these tumors from primordial germ

Medical Image Sharing in Japan.

J Digit Imaging

August 2022

Department of Medical Informatics, Hamamatsu University School of Medicine, Hamamatsu, Shizuoka, Japan.

This paper reports the history, background including politics, current status of Japan's health imaging study and other information sharing. Its realization was slow until the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) started paying digital image storage at the same rate as films in 2008. Information sharing was initiated in early 2010s, which was before vendors became ready for Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) cross-enterprise document sharing (XDS), with the result that most of 34 large regional sharing systems are in non-standardized protocol.
