Article Synopsis
  • Dietary interventions are an effective primary approach for managing polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in women with a BMI of 25 kg/m or higher, leading to weight loss and improved clinical outcomes.
  • A systematic review of nine randomized controlled trials involving 559 participants found that those undergoing specific dietary changes saw benefits in weight, metabolism, hormone levels, and fertility.
  • Recommended dietary strategies include calorie-restricted diets and low-energy-low-carb diets, especially during the overweight period for optimal results.

Our previous clinical metabolomics study illustrated that energy metabolism disorder is an underlying pathogenesis mechanism for the development of alcoholic liver disease (ALD). Supplementation of nicotinamide (NAM), the precursor of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD), may restore the energy metabolism homeostasis of ALD and thus serves as potential therapeutics to treat ALD. In this bedside-to-bench study, the protective effect of NAM against ALD was investigated by using the NIAAA mice model (chronic-plus-binge ethanol), and the liver regeneration boosting capability of NAM was evaluated by the partial hepatectomy mice model.

The emergence of drug-resistant bacteria poses a significant threat to people's lives and health as bacterial infections continue to persist. Currently, antibiotic therapy remains the primary approach for tackling bacterial infections. However, the escalating rates of drug resistance coupled with the lag in the development of novel drugs have led to diminishing effectiveness of conventional treatments.

Elucidating the quality markers(Q-markers) of traditional Chinese medicines is essential for understanding the mechanisms of action and promoting the rational use of traditional Chinese medicines as well as for developing traditional Chinese medicine-derived drugs. Studies have shown that surface plasmon resonance(SPR) is promising in this field. This study proposed a method based on pull-down with SPR chips to predict the Q-markers of Angong Niuhuang pills(AGNHP).

From the perspective of lncRNA MALAT1 regulating cholesterol metabolism in chondrocytes, this paper explores the effect and mechanism of Tougu Xiaotong Capsules(TGXTC) in delaying the degeneration of osteoarthritis. After one week of adaptive feeding, 48(8-week-old) C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into a blank group(12 mice) and a model group(36 mice) by random number table method. The mice in the model group were anesthetized by inhalation of 5% isoflurane, and the OA model was induced by Hulth method.

Methyleugenol is one of the main active constituents in the volatile oil of the traditional Chinese medicine Asari Radix et Rhizoma. It possesses various pharmacological effects such as analgesic, anesthetic, and anti-inflammatory properties. In biosynthesis, the initial precursor phenylalanine is finally converted into methyleugenol through a series of intermediate compounds including coniferyl acid, courmaryl acid, caffeic acid, ferulic acid/ferulic-CoA, coniferyl aldehyde, conferyl alcohol, cnfiferyl acetate, and eugenol/isoeugenol, which are produced through catalysis of a large number of enzymes.

The quality control of Chinese medicinal decoction pieces is one of the key tasks in the traditional Chinese medicine industry. In this study, multi-source information fusion was employed to fuse the data from near-infrared spectroscopy, electronic tongues, and other tests and establish an overall quality consistency evaluation method for Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, which provided methodological support for the overall quality evaluation of Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma. The near-infrared spectroscopy information was measured in both static and dynamic states for 23 batches of Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma samples from different sources, and the electronic tongue sensory information, moisture content, and leachate content were measured.

This study aimed to investigate the therapeutic effects of Morinda officinalis iridoid glycosides(MOIG) on paw edema and bone loss of rheumatoid arthritis(RA) rats, and analyze its potential mechanism based on ultra-high performance liguid chromatography-guadrupole time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry(UPLC-Q-TOF-MS) serum metabolomics. RA rats were established by injecting bovin type Ⅱ collagen. The collagen-induced arthritis(CIA) rats were administered drug by gavage for 8 weeks, the arthritic score were used to evaluate the severity of paw edem, serum bone metabolism biochemical parameters were measured by ELISA kits, Masson staining was used to observe the bone microstructure of the femur in CIA rats.

This study aims to explore the molecular regulation mechanism of the differential accumulation of flavonoids in the leaves and roots of Sarcandra glabra. Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry(LC-MS) and high-throughput transcriptome sequencing(RNA-seq) were employed to screen out the flavonoid-related differential metabolites and differentially expressed genes(DEGs) encoding key metabolic enzymes. Eight DEGs were randomly selected for qRT-PCR verification.
