Dermatophyte biofilms frequently count for inadequate responses and resistance to standard antifungal treatments, resulting in refractory chronic onychomycosis infection. Although antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) has clinically proven to exert significant antifungal effects or even capable of eradicating dermatophyte biofilms, considerably less is known about the molecular mechanisms underlying aPDT and the potential dysregulation of signaling networks that could antagonize its action. The aim of this study is to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlining aPDT combat against dermatophyte biofilm in recalcitrant onychomycosis and to decipher the potential detoxification processes elicited by aPDT, facilitating the development of more effective photodynamic interventions.

The aim of this study is to observe the changes in autophagy activities in lung tissues of mice with different degrees of pulmonary fibrosis (PF), and explore the association between PF and autophagy activity. The PF model was established by bleomycin (BLM, 25 and 35 mg/kg) atomization inhalation in C57BL/6 mice, samples were collected on the 7, 14, and 28 days after BLM administration. Hematoxylin-eosin staining was used to observe the pathological changes in lung tissues.

Objective: The study established a nomogram based on quantitative parameters of spectral computed tomography (CT) and clinical characteristics, aiming to evaluate its predictive value for preoperative lymphovascular invasion (LVI) in gastric cancer (GC).
Methods: From December 2019 to December 2021, 171 patients with pathologically confirmed GC were retrospectively collected with corresponding clinical data and spectral CT quantitative data. Patients were divided into LVI-positive and LVI-negative groups based on their pathological results.
Colorectal cancer is the third most common malignant tumor, with highly invasive and metastatic potential in the later stage. This study investigated the role of PKN2 overexpression and M2-polarized macrophages in dictating the malignant phenotype of colorectal cancer cells. HCT116 colorectal cancer cell line with PKN2 overexpression was generated to investigate the functional role of PKN2.

Sepsis is a life-threatening organ dysfunction due to dysregulated host response to infection, accompanied by a high rate of mortality worldwide. During sepsis progression, toll-like receptors (TLRs) play essential roles in the aberrant inflammatory response that contributes to sepsis-related mortality. Here, we demonstrated a critical role of TLR9 in the progression of sepsis.

Diabetic mellitus management extends beyond blood glucose monitoring to the essential task of mitigating the overexpression of reactive oxygen species (ROS), particularly vital for cellular repair, especially within the nervous system. Herein, antioxidant carbon dots (Arg-CDs) were designed and prepared using anhydrous citric acid, L-arginine, and ethylenediamine as sources through a hydrothermal method. Arg-CDs exhibited excellent scavenging ability to 2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH∙), and fluorescence response to hydroxyl radicals (∙OH), a characteristic representative of reactive oxygen species (ROS).

We aimed to perform a meta-analysis of adjusted effect estimates to examine the association between the presence of AF and the clinical outcomes in patients with AIS who received endovascular thrombectomy.
Methods And Results: We searched PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane database between January 1, 2013 and July 10, 2023.

The inflammatory cytokine IL-17A is known to have the capacity to promote osteoclastogenesis, thereby enhancing bone loss. Moreover, IL-17A can promote the expression of RANKL in osteoblasts, contributing to its pro-osteoclastogenic effect. IL-17A is an autophagy regulator, which is also responsible for its regulation on RANKL expression.

The tumour microenvironment (TME) of clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) comprises multiple cell types, which promote tumour progression and modulate drug resistance and immune cell infiltrations ligand-receptor (LR) interactions. However, the interactions, expression patterns, and clinical relevance of LR in the TME in ccRCC are insufficiently characterised. This study characterises the complex composition of the TME in ccRCC by analysing the single-cell sequencing (scRNA-seq) data of patients with ccRCC from the Gene expression omnibus database.
