Background & Aims: The role of infiltrating neutrophils in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is modulated by cellular metabolism, specifically lipid homeostasis. Throughout the progression of HCC, alterations in lipid metabolism are intricately linked with regulation of neutrophil function and the release of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs). However, how much the protumor effect of a high-fat diet (HFD) depends on NETs and the potential interplay between NETs and other leukocytes in HCC remains uncertain.

Tumor immunotherapy, particularly immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), has emerged as a powerful strategy in treating malignant tumors, exhibiting efficacy in both first-line and second-line treatments for advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Despite their success, ICIs can lead to adverse reactions, including interstitial lung disease (ILD), with an incidence ranging from 2.7 % to 20.

Glomerular endothelial cells (GECs) are pivotal in developing glomerular sclerosis disorders. The advancement of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) is intimately tied to disruptions in lipid metabolism. Sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P), a molecule transported by high-density lipoproteins (HDL), exhibits protective effects on vascular endothelial cells by upregulating phosphorylated endothelial nitric oxide synthase (p-eNOS) and enhancing nitric oxide (NO) production.

SQSTM1/p62 predicts prognosis and upregulates the transcription of CCND1 to promote proliferation in mantle cell lymphoma.

Protoplasma

January 2025

Department of Hematology, Fujian Institute of Hematology, Fujian Provincial Key Laboratory on Hematology, Fujian Medical University Union Hospital, Fuzhou, 350001, China.

Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a rare, highly invasive non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. The main pathogenesis of MCL is associated with the formation of the IgH/CCND1 fusion gene and nuclear overexpression of cyclin D1, which accelerates the cell cycle, leading to tumorigenesis. The prognosis with current standard chemotherapy is still unsatisfactory.

Background: Treatment outcomes for acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) have improved with all-trans-retinoic acid and arsenic trioxide, yet relapse remains a concern, especially in pediatric patients. The prognostic value of minimal residual disease (MRD) post-induction and the impact of arsenic levels during induction on MRD are not fully understood.

Objectives: To evaluate the relationship between post-induction MRD levels and relapse-free survival (RFS) in pediatric APL patients, and to investigate the correlation between blood arsenic concentration levels during induction therapy and MRD status.

Intrinsic Anti-Freezing, Tough, and Transparent Hydrogels for Smart Optical and Multi-Modal Sensing Applications.

Adv Mater

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Advanced Materials Technologies, International (HongKong Macao and Taiwan) Joint Laboratory on Advanced Materials Technologies, College of Materials Science and Engineering, Fuzhou University, Fuzhou, Fujian, 350108, China.

Hydrogels have received great attention due to their molecular designability and wide application range. However, they are prone to freeze at low temperatures due to the existence of mass water molecules, which can damage their flexibility and transparency, greatly limiting their use in cold environments. Although adding cryoprotectants can reduce the freezing point of hydrogels, it may also deteriorate the mechanical properties and face the risk of cryoprotectant leakage.

Imatinib mesylate (IM) is a first-line therapy for chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and exhibits good therapeutic effects, but not in all patients with CML owing to drug resistance. Our previous study showed that Cyr61 plays a key role in IM resistance in CML cells. Paeoniflorin (PF) is a bioactive compound isolated from the traditional Chinese medicine Paeonia lactiflora Pall that displays anticancer activity.

  • Developed a nomogram to predict the effectiveness of high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) for treating uterine fibroids by analyzing oxytocin levels and sonographic features of fibroids.
  • Conducted a retrospective study of 60 patients, utilizing logistic regression to identify key predictive factors like myoma type, blood flow, and oxytocin classification, resulting in a model assessed using R language.
  • The model demonstrated strong predictive ability with an area under the curve of 0.887 and good calibration, suggesting it can effectively guide clinicians in selecting appropriate patients for HIFU treatment.

Int J Stroke

January 2025

Department of Neurosurgery and Interventional Neuroradiology, Xuanwu Hospital, China International Neuroscience Institute, Capital Medical University, National Center for Neurological Disorders, 45 Changchun St, Beijing 100053, China.

Rationale: The Chemical Optimization of Cerebral Embolectomy (CHOICE) trial suggested that the administration of intra-arterial alteplase after successful endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) may improve neurological outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke due to large vessel occlusion (AIS-LVO) in the anterior circulation. However, the use of adjunctive intra-arterial alteplase following successful EVT in acute posterior circulation stroke remains unexplored.

Aims: This study aims to investigate the efficacy and safety of intra-arterial alteplase after successful EVT for AIS-LVO in the posterior circulation.
