Objectives: To investigate the ability of CT and endoscopic sonography (EUS) in predicting the malignant risk of 1-2-cm gastric gastrointestinal stromal tumors (gGISTs) and to clarify whether radiomics could be applied for risk stratification.

Methods: A total of 151 pathologically confirmed 1-2-cm gGISTs from seven institutions were identified by contrast-enhanced CT scans between January 2010 and March 2021. A detailed description of EUS morphological features was available for 73 gGISTs.

Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) possesses tyrosine kinase activity and participates in cell growth, differentiation and migration, and survival. Its alterations, mainly including mutations, amplifications, and overexpression are associated with poor prognosis and are one of the major drivers in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Several clinical trials had been investigating on the treatments of HER2-altered NSCLC, including conventional chemotherapy, programmed death 1 (PD-1) inhibitors, tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) and antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), however, the results were either disappointing or encouraging, but inconsistent.

CD8 T cell/cancer-associated fibroblast ratio stratifies prognostic and predictive responses to immunotherapy across multiple cancer types.

Front Immunol

December 2022

Department of Thoracic Oncology, Clinical Oncology School of Fujian Medical University, Fujian Cancer Hospital, Fujian Key Laboratory of Advanced Technology for Cancer Screening and Early Diagnosis, Fuzhou, China.

Background: Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) within the tumor microenvironment (TME) are critical for immune suppression by restricting immune cell infiltration in the tumor stromal zones from penetrating tumor islands and changing their function status, particularly for CD8 T cells. However, assessing and quantifying the impact of CAFs on immune cells and investigating how this impact is related to clinical outcomes, especially the efficacy of immunotherapy, remain unclear.

Materials And Methods: The TME was characterized using immunohistochemical (IHC) analysis using a large-scale sample size of gene expression profiles.

Background: Immunotherapy has exhibited efficacy in thymic carcinoma patients; however, there are insufficient data to confirm this efficacy in thymoma. The toxicity of immunotherapy also remains to be determined.

Methods: The efficacy and safety of immunotherapy were analyzed in 11 thymoma patients who received PD-1 inhibitors according to a range of relevant indexes including the objective response rate (ORR), disease control rate (DCR), progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), and immunotherapy-related adverse events.

Background And Objectives: Previous studies have reported that the microvascular invasion three-tiered grading (MiVI-TTG) scheme is a better prognostic predictor than the two-tiered microvascular invasion (MiVI) grading scheme in hepatocellular carcinoma. This study aims to explore the prognostic significance of MiVI-TTG in patients undergoing liver resection for combined hepatocellular-cholangiocarcinoma (cHCC) and to explore the risk factors for MiVI in cHCC.

Methods: This research included 208 patients graded as M0, M1, or M2 using the MiVI-TTG scheme.

Fujian Provincial Key Laboratory of Cancer Metastasis Chemoprevention and Chemotherapy, Fuzhou University, Fuzhou 350002, China.. Electronic address:

Electronic cigarette (e-Cig) has been promoted as a safer alternative to traditional cigarette (t-Cig) recently. However, there are limited scientific data on the potential health effects of e-Cig use. In this study, we evaluated the cytotoxicities of e-Cig and t-Cig condensate solutions (e-CigCS and t-CigCS) on human bronchial epithelial cells (16HBE cells) in vitro, and employed the exosome proteomic technique to systematically assess the effects of e-CigCS and t-CigCS on 16HBE cells.

(1) Aim: To compare the treatment plans of stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) with CyberKnife (CK) and high-dose-rate (HDR) intracavitary/interstitial brachytherapy (IC/ISBT) and examine the feasibility of CK-SBRT as a viable alternative to BT in patients with locally advanced cervical cancer (LACC). (2) Methods: A BT plan of 28 Gy in four fractions delivered previously to 20 patients with LACC was compared with a CK plan based on the same CT images with structures delineation for BT. The SBRT treatment plan was further divided according to two different approaches, with the high-risk planning target volume (HR-PTV) defined by the high-risk clinical target volume (HR-CTV) without and with a 5 mm margin, which were named CK-CTV plan and CK-PTV plan, respectively.

Altered MUC1 epitope-specific CTLs: A potential target for immunotherapy of pancreatic cancer.

J Leukoc Biol

December 2022

School of Basic Medical Sciences, Fujian Medical University, 1 Xue Yuan Road, University Town, Fuzhou, Fujian, 350122, China.

The efficacy of conventional treatments for pancreatic cancer remains unsatisfactory, and immunotherapy is an emerging option for adjuvant treatment of this highly deadly disorder. The tumor-associated antigen (TAA) MUC1 is expressed in a variety of human cancers and is overexpressed in more than 90% of pancreatic cancer, which makes it an attractive target for cancer immunotherapy. As a self-protein, MUC1 shows a low immunogenicity because of immune tolerance, and the most effective approach to breaking immune tolerance is alteration of the antigen structure.

Fujian Provincial Key Laboratory of Cancer Metastasis Chemoprevention and Chemotherapy, College of Chemistry, Fuzhou University, 350108, Fu Zhou, P. R. China.

This work reports the development of a multifunctional thermosensitive liposomal nanoplatform (PcS@Lip-FA) based on a metal-free phthalocyanine modified with tetra-sulfonates (PcPS), which exhibited photodynamic and photothermal activities simultaneously. Upon irradiation with a near infrared laser, thermosensitive PcS@Lip-FA could release PcS as a result of the local hyperthermia of PcS. Interestingly, PcS could easily chelate with Cu, leading to the enhancement of photothermal activity and decrease of photodynamic activity.

Electronic address:

Lithocholic acid (LCA), one of the most common metabolic products of bile acids (BAs), is originally synthesized in the liver, stored in the gallbladder, and released to the intestine, where it assists absorption of lipid-soluble nutrients. LCA has recently emerged as a powerful reagent to inhibit tumorigenesis; however, the anti-tumor activity and molecular mechanisms of LCA in gallbladder cancer (GBC) remain poorly acknowledged. Here, we analyzed serum levels of LCA in human GBC and found that LCA was significantly downregulated in these patients, and reduced LCA levels were associated with poor clinical outcomes.
