Article Synopsis
  • Lumbar disc herniation (LDH) is a common health issue causing leg or back pain, prompting a clinical trial to assess the effectiveness of Yaobitong capsules (YBT) compared to Jingyaokang capsules (JYK).
  • The trial involved 479 patients who received either YBT or JYK, with outcomes measured using the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) and visual analogue scale (VAS) over 30 days.
  • Results indicated that YBT significantly improved ODI and VAS scores compared to JYK at various time points, with both treatments having similar safety profiles, suggesting YBT as a more effective option for LDH.

As a novel type of mesenchymal stem cell, induced pluripotent stem cell-derived mesenchymal stem cells (iPMSCs) have huge potential for cell therapy. iPMSCs exhibited the typical characteristics of MSCs, whereas the tri-lineage differentiation potential is limited, especially the adipogenic propensity. Here, to reveal the molecular mechanism we carried out the epigenetic comparisons between the iPMSCs and the bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) and embryonic stem cell-derived mesenchymal stem cells (EMSCs).

To systematically evaluate the efficacy and safety of external therapies of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) combined with sodium hyaluronate(SH) injected in articular cavity therapy on knee osteoarthritis(KOA). The following databases such as CNKI, WanFang, VIP, CBM, PubMed and Medline were researched to collect the randomized controlled trails on external therapies of TCM combined with sodium hyaluronate injected in articular cavity therapy on KOA. The selection of studies, assessment of methodological quality and data extraction were performed independently by two researchers.

Q482H mutation of procaspase-8 in acute myeloid leukemia abolishes caspase-8-mediated apoptosis by impairing procaspase-8 dimerization.

Biochem Biophys Res Commun

January 2018

Introduction: Certain procaspase-8 mutations are reported to be associated with the progression and prognosis of multiple tumors. However, it remains unclear whether the poor chemotherapy response and frequent relapse after complete remission of patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is also related to procaspase-8 abnormalities.

Methods: Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification and Sanger sequencing of the procaspase-8 gene (CASP8) were performed.

Determination has been made on the contents of strychnine, brucine and ephedrin in different processed products of Strychnos nux-vomica. The acute toxicity, analgesic and antiphlogistic actions of these products have also been detected. The result shows that the product processed with Ephedra sinica can reduce toxicity and promote curative effect.

The syndromes among 674 cadres over 45 years in age with case-control study were investigated, and the TCM susceptible factors (TCM-SF) of senile lipid metabolic disturbance (SLMD) were analysed statistically, which indicated that Kidney-Deficiency, Phlegm-Turbid and Blood-Stasis were the main TCM-SF for SLMD. Compared with the results of presenility, it indicated that the Deficiency in origin was the intrinsic factors in development of LMD in presenile and senile period. Among which, Kidney-Deficiency possibly was the main factor.

Traditional Chinese Medicine holds that meridians is the regulative system of the functional activity of the human body. According to the theory of meridians there is a relatively specific connection between the acupoint and viscus. Not a few researchers have paid much attention to this problem.

Plotting out the meridian course with objective methods is one of the important projects in the research of meridian at present. Therefore, selecting a proper indication to plot out the meridian track over the body surface during acupuncture is significant for elucidating the essence of meridian. The purpose of this paper was to plot out the Large Intestine Meridian track by blocking the acupuncture effect with mechanical pressure, when electroretinogram (ERG) was taken as a responsive indication.

It is still not clear what role is played by cortical somatosensory system during the advance of propagated sensation along meridians (PSM). In this paper the short-latent somatosensory evoked potential (SLSEP) was taken as an indication to observe the characteristics of functional activity in cortical somatosensory area I (SI) during the advance of PSM. The observation was preformed on 10 subjects with marked PSM, which were clear and kept stable.

1. Shown by the sagittal cryostat-microsections, the epidermis of the adult mouse and rabbit skins consisted of 3-4 layers of cells, occupying about 40 mu in thickness. When advancing a penetrating microelectrode from the surface of the epidermis vertically downward into its depth, the cell membrane potentials of these layers in series, being -4---8mv, -6---20mv, -12---20mv, -12---20mv, respectively, could be got.

The skin impedance has been used as an index to plot out the meridian courses. In most of this kind of methods during measurement voltage was necessary to deliver to the subject's skin. It is unknown whether increasing the measuring voltage can change non-low skin impedance points (non-LSIP) into low skin impedance points (LSIP).

The distribution of low skin impedance points (LSIP) was studied on 68 subjects with a computer system designed for the measurement of skin impedance. The results demonstrated that LSIPs were basically distributed along the 14 channels, the overwhelming majority located right on or within 5 mm bilaterally to their courses. LSIPs were found in the area between every two channels only in a few cases.

Effect of aging on essential debility and evil reality was explored by an epidemiological investigation of clinical syndrome with TCM in 878 cases of middle and old-aged patients, inquiring into their relation of senility with visceral weakness and stagnation of Qi, blood stasis, and phlegm turbid. The results indicated that (1) several viscera, feeble and damaged, were the basis of senility, and the feeble kidney was the stress; (2) the syndrome of stagnation of Qi, blood stasis and phlegm turbid speeded up process of senility. The mechanism of feeble phenomena appeared in the middle-old aged patients is that with the rise of age in the patients observed there was interaction between the feeble visceral function and the syndrome of stagnation of Qi, blood stasis and phlegm turbid, that is, there was interaction between essential debility and evil reality.

This paper reports 300 coronary heart disease patients with different needling sensations, mainly with distension, when acupuncturing Neiguan by identical acupuncture doctor with same manipulation. The higher rate of PSM appearance and better acupuncture effect were observed, in patients with compound sensation, such as sourness-distension and distension-numbness. All of the patients who felt pain did not appear PSM and the acupuncture effect was poor.

With immunocytochemistry, we have determined distribution of sodium, potassium-adenosine triphosphatase (Na+, K+-ATPase) and of three isoenzymes of carbonic anhydrase (CA) and have shown absence of the chloride channel, Band 3 protein, in the genital tract of female rodents. Staining for Na+,K+-ATPase was strongest in the ampullary oviduct and uterine glands in the mouse. In the mouse and rat ovary, immunostaining evidenced CA I, II, and III in theca interna cells where the enzyme could affect the pH of follicular fluid.
