Neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) is a severe neurological injury during infancy, often resulting in long-term cognitive deficits. This study aimed to investigate the neuroprotective effects of Edaravone (EDA), a free radical scavenger, and elucidate the potential role of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in mediating these effects in neonatal HIE rats. Using the Rice-Vannucci model, HIE was induced in neonatal rats, followed by immediate administration of EDA after the hypoxic-ischemic insult.

Introduction: The distribution of myeloperoxidase (MPO) and dendritic cells (DCs) in sponge trophoblast cells may contribute to the syncytialisation of trophoblast cells and the establishment of uterine placental circulation. Our previous series of studies have shown that MPO plays an important role in angiogenesis and repair, and placental vascular dysfunction can lead to serious pregnancy complications and even miscarriage.
Methods: Mouse model of MPO knockout was constructed, and the crosstalk between MPO and dendritic cells (DC) cells was investigated to determine whether MPO is involved in the pregnancy process.

Background: Anorectal malformations (ARMs) are often associated with tethered cord syndrome (TCS). This study focused on children with ARM to explore the risk factors for the co-occurrence of TCS and to investigate the impact of untethering surgery on anorectal function among these children.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 130 children with ARM treated at Fujian Provincial Children's Hospital (Fujian Hospital of Shanghai Children's Medical Center) from May 2021 to January 2024.

Background: Glucose transporter 1 deficiency syndrome (Glut1DS) was initially reported by De Vivo and colleagues in 1991. This disease arises from mutations in the SLC2A1 and presents with a broad clinical spectrum. It is a treatable neuro-metabolic condition, where prompt diagnosis and initiation of ketogenic dietary therapy can markedly enhance the prognosis.

Importance: Gastrointestinal complications are common perioperative complications in children with congenital heart disease (CHD), and as near-infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS) provides a non-invasive, real-time monitoring of regional tissue oxygenation, we envisioned monitoring and preventing the development of gastrointestinal complications through the use of NIRS.
Objective: To assess the utility of NIRS for predicting gastrointestinal complication risks and determining optimal initial feeding times in infants post-cardiac surgery.
Methods: This retrospective study included 65 infants with CHD treated at our hospital from January 2021 to January 2022.

Objective: To assess the diagnostic efficiency of long-read sequencing (LRS) for the determination of CYP21A1P/CYP21A2 and TNXA/TNXB fusion genotypes among children with 21-hydroxylase deficiency (21-OHD) and explore their clinical characteristics.
Methods: LRS sequencing was carried out on 30 children diagnosed with 21-OHD at the Department of Endocrinology, Fujian Children's Hospital between November 2022 and September 2023 by clinical symptoms or conventional Sanger sequencing combined with multiple ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA). The results of the two methods were compared.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play crucial roles in the regulation of immune cell differentiation and the immune response during allergic rhinitis (AR). Studies have shown that miRNA-155 is significantly upregulated in AR pathogenesis. Therefore, miRNA-155 can be used as a biomarker for AR diagnosis.

Objective: To investigate whether changes in cerebrovascular hemodynamic parameters during extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) treatment in neonates are associated with the occurrence of cerebrovascular complications.
Methods: This study selected neonatal patients who received ECMO treatment at a pediatric hospital in China from June 2021 to June 2024. Relevant clinical data were collected from the electronic medical record system.

A photocurrent enhancing photoelectrochemical (PEC) immunosensor was developed for chloramphenicol (CAP) detection based on cation exchange reaction. The efficient split-type PEC immunosensor combined with controlled-release strategy was established using the ZnInS/TiO/TiC MXene (ZIS/T/M) composite as the photoactive material and CuO as the signal response probe. In the presence of target CAP, CuO-labeled CAP antibody (CuO-mAb) was introduced onto the microplate via a competitive-type immunoassay.

Background: The aim of this study is to summarize our center's experience with patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) ligation during extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) treatment in newborns with severe respiratory failure due to persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn (PPHN).
Methods: We retrospectively collected and analyzed clinical data from five newborns with severe respiratory failure due to PPHN who underwent PDA ligation during ECMO treatment at our hospital between January 2021 and August 2023.
Results: All five patients had large PDAs, measuring 10 mm, 6 mm, 6 mm, 7 mm, and 6 mm, respectively.

Background: Pediatric non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a chronic steatosis of the liver associated with energy metabolism in children and adolescents, failure to intervene promptly can elevate the risk of developing hepatocellular carcinoma. Therefore, this study aimed to understand the underlying mechanism of pediatric NAFLD and investigate potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets.
Methods: We investigated genes using the GSE185051 data set related to energy metabolism from the GeneCards database, constructed protein-protein interaction network, identified hub genes and established networks representing interactions between these hub genes and miRNA, RNA-binding proteins, transcription factors, and drugs.

Purpose: Blood transfusions are performed in small amounts in premature infants. Few studies have focused on the effect of the same red blood cell (RBC) package at different intervals on increasing hemoglobin(Hb) concentration. We aimed to determine the effect of infusion of the same RBC package at different time intervals on Hb levels in premature infants.

C-terminal kinesin motor KIFC1 is increasingly concerned with an essential role in germ cell development. During the spermatogenesis of mice, rats, and crustaceans, KIFC1 functions in regulating meiotic chromosome separation, acrosome vesicle transportation, and nuclear morphology maintenance. The expression pattern of KIFC1 is conservatively concentrated at the acrosome and nucleus of haploid sperm cells.
