Risk factors for acute kidney injury in preterm neonates after noncardiac surgery: a single-center retrospective cohort study.

Postoperative acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common complication that is associated with chronic kidney disease, early postsurgical mortality, and prolonged hospital stays. Preterm neonates who undergo surgery are at risk factors for AKI due to underdeveloped kidneys. To date, little is known about the incidence and perioperative risk factors for AKI in preterm neonates undergoing noncardiac surgery.

Mycoplasma pneumoniae-induced Kawasaki disease via PINK1/Parkin-mediated mitophagy.

Kawasaki disease (KD) is a systemic vasculitis with an unknown cause that primarily affects children. The objective of this study was to explore the function and underlying mechanism of mitophagy in Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP)-induced KD. To create MP-induced KD models, Human coronary endothelial cells (HCAECs) and DBA/2 mice were employed and treated with Mp-Lipid-associated membrane proteins （LAMPs）.

Effect of static lung expansion on pulmonary function following cardiopulmonary bypass in children.

Objective: To observe the effect of the lung-protective ventilation strategy, static lung expansion, during cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) on pulmonary function and tracheal intubation time following cardiac surgery in children.

Methods: A total of 48 child patients (aged 1-3) with ventricular septal defect (VSD) were enrolled, and all underwent CPB cardiac surgery for the first time. The patients were divided into two groups using the random number table method: the experimental group (Group A,  = 30) and the control group (Group B,  = 18).

Immunotherapy elicits a systemic antitumour immune response in peripheral circulating T cells. However, the T cell trafficking circuit between organs and their contributions to antitumour immunity remain largely unknown. Here we show in multiple mouse leukaemia models that high infiltration of leukaemic cells in bone marrow (BM) stimulates the transition of CD8CD44CD62L central memory T cells into CD8CD44CD62L T cells, designated as inter-organ migratory T cells (T cells).

Objective: The impact of nitric oxide (NO) administered via cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) on pediatric heart surgery remains controversial. The objective of this study is to conduct a comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis to examine the impact of NO administered via CPB on pediatric heart surgery.

Methods: This study searched 7 electronic databases to identify Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) on the impact of NO administration during CPB on postoperative outcomes in pediatric heart surgery.

The association between the composite dietary antioxidant index (CDAI) and hyperlipidemia remains unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the relationship between CDAI and hyperlipidemia. The data used in this study were obtained from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) dataset spanning from 2005 to 2020.

A novel technique for the single-port laparoscopic percutaneous extraperitoneal closure (SLPEC) of paediatric isolated giant inguinal hernias using double-modified hernia needles.

The objective was to explore the efficacy of single-port laparoscopic percutaneous extraperitoneal closure using double-modified hernia needles with hydrodissection (SLPEC group) and two-port laparoscopic percutaneous extraperitoneal closure (TLPEC group) for the treatment of giant indirect inguinal hernias in children. We performed a retrospective review of all children with giant indirect inguinal hernias (inner ring orifice diameter ≥ 1.5 cm) who underwent laparoscopic high ligation of the hernia sac at FuJian Children's Hospital from January 2019 to December 2021.

A systematic review and meta-analysis assessing the efficacy of Tuina for nocturnal enuresis in children.

Desmopressin acetate (DDAVP) and behavioral interventions (BI) are cornerstone treatments for nocturnal enuresis (NE), a common pediatric urinary disorder. Despite the growing body of clinical studies on massage therapy for NE, comprehensive evaluations comparing the effectiveness of Tuina with DDAVP or BI are scarce. This study aims to explore the efficacy of Tuina in the management of NE.

Background: This study aims to investigate the potential significance of mean platelet volume (MPV) and platelet distribution width (PDW) in predicting surgical neonatal necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) and establish the correlation between MPV/PDW levels and the severity/prognosis of NEC.

Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on a cohort of 372 patients diagnosed with NEC. The patients were categorized into two groups based on whether they underwent surgical therapy.

We aimed to analyze the effects of exclusive breastfeeding duration on the occurrence and course of pneumonia in infants aged up to 6 months. Prospective case-control study. This study was conducted from August 2020 to August 2022 at a maternity and child health hospital in China.

SENP2-NDR2-p21 axis modulates lung cancer cell growth.

Sentrin/small ubiquitin-like modifier (SUMO)-specific proteases (SENPs) perform pivotal roles in SUMO maturation and recycling, which modulate the balance of SUMOylation/de-SUMOylation and spatiotemporal functions of SUMOylation targets. The malfunction of SENPs often results in cellular dysfunction and various diseases. However, studies rarely investigated the correlation between SENP2 and lung cancer.

Thyroid-stimulating hormone induces insulin resistance in adipocytes via endoplasmic reticulum stress.

Abstract: Subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) is closely related to insulin resistance, and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) level is an independent factor for insulin resistance associated with subclinical hypothyroidism. This study aims to explore the effects of TSH levels on insulin signal transduction in adipocytes and to establish the role of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress in this process. In this study, the SCH mouse model was established, and 3T3-L1 adipocytes were treated with TSH or tunicamycin (TM), with or without 4-phenylbutyric acid (4-PBA), an inhibitor of ER stress.

Functional biomaterials for modulating the dysfunctional pathological microenvironment of spinal cord injury.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) often results in irreversible loss of sensory and motor functions, and most SCIs are incurable with current medical practice. One of the hardest challenges in treating SCI is the development of a dysfunctional pathological microenvironment, which mainly comprises excessive inflammation, deposition of inhibitory molecules, neurotrophic factor deprivation, glial scar formation, and imbalance of vascular function. To overcome this challenge, implantation of functional biomaterials at the injury site has been regarded as a potential treatment for modulating the dysfunctional microenvironment to support axon regeneration, remyelination at injury site, and functional recovery after SCI.

Background: Allergic Rhinitis (AR) is a prevalent chronic non-infectious inflammation affecting the nasal mucosa. NLRP3-mediated pyroptosis of epithelial cells plays a pivotal role in AR pathogenesis. Herein, we evaluated the impact of the long non-coding RNA nuclear paraspeckle assembly transcript 1 (lncRNA NEAT1) on NLR family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3)-mediated pyroptosis in AR.

Global modified Delphi consensus on diagnosis, phenotypes, and treatment of SCN8A-related epilepsy and/or neurodevelopmental disorders.

Objective: We aimed to develop consensus for diagnosis/management of SCN8A-related disorders. Utilizing a modified Delphi process, a global cohort of experienced clinicians and caregivers provided input on diagnosis, phenotypes, treatment, and management of SCN8A-related disorders.

Methods: A Core Panel (13 clinicians, one researcher, six caregivers), divided into three subgroups (diagnosis/phenotypes, treatment, comorbidities/prognosis), performed a literature review and developed questions for the modified Delphi process.

Global modified-Delphi consensus on comorbidities and prognosis of SCN8A-related epilepsy and/or neurodevelopmental disorders.

Objectives: We aimed to develop consensus on comorbidities (frequency, severity, and prognosis) and overall outcomes in epilepsy, development, and cognition for the five phenotypes of SCN8A-related disorders.

Methods: A core panel consisting of 13 clinicians, 1 researcher, and 6 caregivers was formed and split into three workgroups. One group focused on comorbidities and prognosis.
