Medium- and long-chain triacylglycerols (MLCTs) are regarded as healthy premium oils; however, the health benefits of novel MLCTs enriched with lauric and α-linolenic acids are still not fully understood. This study examined the health benefits of lauric-α-linolenic structural lipids (ALSL) and physical mixture (PM) with a similar fatty acid composition in mice with obesity induced by the high-fat diet (HFD). The data indicated that ALSL is more effective than PM in counteracting obesity, insulin resistance, hyperlipidaemia, liver injury, and systemic inflammation in HFD-induced mice.

School of Architecture and Urban-Rural Planning, Fuzhou University, Fuzhou, 350108, China.

Nighttime light data partially reflects the process of urban modernization and its reaction to urban scale, but its correlation with noise remains unclear, especially over a long-term time series, remains unclear. To address this gap, we examine 31 provincial capital cities and municipalities in China as the study area, utilizing noise monitoring data and nighttime light data to explore their relationship in urban areas from 2012 to 2021. The results show that: (1) During the study period, the regional environmental noise and night light index of 31 major cities exhibited a consistent upward trend, with the average equivalent sound level of environmental noise in most urban areas fluctuating between 50.

Resources and land carrying capacity are vital to the survival and development of human society and form the foundation for ensuring food security. However, evaluating land carrying capacity solely based on grain production is overly simplistic. A comprehensive assessment from the perspective of dietary nutrition is needed to more accurately reflect the actual carrying capacity of land.

Electronic address:

Leaf angle is a major agronomic trait that determines plant architecture, which directly affects rice planting density, photosynthetic efficiency, and yield. The plant phytohormones brassinosteroids (BRs) and the MAPK signaling cascade are known to play crucial roles in regulating the leaf angle, but the underlying molecular mechanisms are not fully understood. Here, we report a rice WRKY family transcription factor gene, OsWRKY72, which positively regulates leaf angle by affecting lamina joint development and BR signaling.

VZV IE4 downregulates cellular surface MHC-I via sequestering it to the Golgi complex.

Cell Mol Life Sci

December 2024

Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Infectious Diseases, University of Calgary, Calgary, AB, Canada.

Article Synopsis
  • Varicella-zoster virus (VZV) infection reduces surface expression of MHC-I by retaining it in the Golgi complex, but the mechanism behind this is not fully clear.
  • The study identifies the VZV IE4 protein as a key factor that interacts with the human leukocyte antigen C (HLA-C), leading to its co-localization in the Golgi and downregulation of MHC-I on the cell surface.
  • A mutated version of IE4 (mIE4) restores MHC-I surface expression, indicating that VZV IE4 plays a role in evading host immune responses by disrupting the MHC-I presentation pathway.

Calcite is a promising material choice for adsorbing phosphates because of its abundance and environmentally benign nature. However, the slow adsorption kinetics and hence low adsorption capacity within a short time frame hinders its practical application. In this work, we solve these problems by presenting a low Mg-doped calcite adsorbent, Mg-10.
