Bone conduction hearing in congenital aural atresia.

Eur Arch Otorhinolaryngol

July 2016

Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Fudan University (Formerly Shanghai Medical University), 83 Fenyang Rd, Xuhui Disctrict, Shanghai, 200031, People's Republic of China.

Previous researches focusing on BC hearing mechanisms proved that the two routes, (1) EAC sound radiation and (2) inertial of ossicular chain, partially contribute to normal BC hearing. Therefore, the BC hearing for those patients with congenital aural atresia should partially decrease theoretically due to their abnormal anatomy. However, there are not many studies which mention these patients' BC hearing up till now.

Uncommon thyroglossal duct cyst with inward tendency: a recommendation regarding ingrowth type.

Int J Pediatr Otorhinolaryngol

March 2012

Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Shanghai Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat Hospital, Fudan University (formerly Shanghai Medical University), 83 Fenyang Rd, Xuhui District, Shanghai 200031, PR China.

Objective: There has been a growing number of case reports on uncommon thyroglossal duct cyst (TDC) extending into the oropharynx and/or laryngopharynx, which has often been misdiagnosed. We therefore examined the unfamiliar radiological and clinical characteristics of the cases in question so that we could advance the current store of knowledge.

Methods: From January 2005 to May 2009, all cases with TDC seen at a tertiary hospital, whose clinical data and images included CT and MRI, were included in this retrospective study.

Objective: To explore the radiologic characteristics of lingual thyroglossal duct cyst relevant to diagnosis. In addition, to probe the feasibility of modified Sistrunk surgery for patients who experience recurrence after cystectomy or marsupialization under endoscopy.

Study Design: Retrospective.

To investigate the potential role of kisspeptin in the advance onset of puberty in precocious puberty, model rats induced by danazol were used to study the developmental expression of hypothalamic kisspeptin. Kisspeptin immunoreactive cells were observed in the arcuate nucleus (ARC), periventricular nucleus (PeN) and preoptic area (POA) in model rats on the day of onset-puberty. On the day of post-puberty, however, the number of kisspeptin immunoreactive cells in ARC and PeN decreased while the number of those cells in POA increased.

Circulating estradiol and hypothalamic corticotrophin releasing hormone enhances along with time after ovariectomy in rats: effects of electroacupuncture.

Neuropeptides

August 2005

Department of Neurobiology and Integrative Medicine, Institute of Acupuncture Research (WHO Collaborating Centre for Traditional Medicine), Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University (Formerly Shanghai Medical University), Shanghai, PR China.

Repeated electroacupuncture (EA) stimulation is known to enhance the circulating level of estrogen in the ovariectomized rats by stimulating the activity of the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis. To explore the mechanism of EA in promoting the homeostasis in ovariectomized rats, the hypothalamic CRH content and its mRNA expression as well as the circulating estradiol in the rats along with time after ovariectomy were detected. Female rats were divided into fourteen groups: 1 month after ovariectomy (OVX1M), OVX2M, OVX3M, OVX4M, OVX5M, OVX6M; intact 1 month (INT1M), INT2M, INT3M, INT4M, INT5M, INT6M; OVX1M with EA (OVX1M+EA) and intact 1 month with EA (INT1M+EA).

Background: This study was performed to address patient selection criteria and the role of secondary cytoreductive surgery (SCR) in patients with epithelial ovarian carcinoma (EOC) who had relapsed tumors after a progression-free interval > or = 3 months.

Methods: One hundred seventeen patients with relapsed EOC after a clinical complete remission duration > or = 3 months who underwent SCR were entered on this prospective trial. Survival curves were generated using the Kaplan-Meier method, and statistical comparisons were performed using log-rank tests, logistic stepwise regression analyses, and a Cox stepwise regression model.

Utilizing push-pull perfusion, we examined secretary profiles of corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) in the nucleus paraventricularis (PVN) of freely moving intact (INT) and ovariectomized (OVX) rats, and in the meanwhile the effects of electroacupuncture (EA) on the release patterns of CRH were observed. The PVN was perfused with artificial cerebrospinal fluid between 08:00 and 12:00 h, and perfusates were collected every 10 min. The average CRH output was significantly larger in OVX rats than that in INT and INT with EA (INT+EA) groups.
