Objective: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder that significantly impairs muscle regeneration following injuries, contributing to numerous complications and reduced quality of life. There is an urgent need for therapeutic strategies that can enhance muscle regeneration and alleviate these pathological mechanisms. In this study, we evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of W-GA nanodots, which are composed of gallic acid (GA) and tungstate (W6+), on muscle regeneration in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D)-induced muscle injury, with a focus on their anti-inflammatory and antioxidative effects.

Background: The presence of level IV/V metastasis is a significant prognostic factor for patients with oral and oropharyngeal cancer, while level IV lymphadenopathy defines the N3 stage in nasopharyngeal carcinoma. However, the current staging system for hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (HPSCC) does not consider the location of involved nodes.

Objectives: To evaluate the risk factors and prognostic impact of level IV/V metastasis in patients with HPSCC.

Department of Laboratory Medicine, Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University, 136 Yi Xue Yuan Road, Shanghai, 200032, PR China.

The rise of antibiotic resistance poses a significant and ongoing challenge to public health, with pathogenic bacteria remaining a persistent threat. Traditional culture methods, while considered the gold standard for bacterial detection and viability assessment, are time-consuming and labor-intensive. To address this limitation, we developed a novel point-of-care (POC) detection method leveraging citrate- and alkyne-modified gold nanorods (AuNRs) synthesized with click chemistry properties.

Background: There are few reports about the one-stage surgery of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) + mitral valve transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (M-TEER) around the world. TAVR + M-TEER surgery is usually performed under the simultaneous guidance of digital subtraction angiography (DSA) and echocardiography. There is no report of TAVR surgery assisted only by echocardiography all over the world.

Background: Sunitinib resistance is a major challenge in advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Clinically, elucidating the underlying mechanisms and developing practical countermeasures for sunitinib resistance in RCC is desirable. In previous studies, we found that circAGAP1 expression was significantly upregulated in clear cell RCC (ccRCC) and was strongly associated with poor prognosis.

January 2025

Laboratory of Advanced Materials, Shanghai Key Lab of Molecular Catalysis and Innovative Materials, Academy for Engineering & Technology, Advanced Coatings Research Center of Ministry of Education of China, Fudan University, Shanghai 200438, P. R. China.

A porous hedgehog-like CoO/NiO/graphene oxide (denoted as PHCNO/GO) microsphere was prepared by a facile solvothermal method, followed by an annealing treatment under argon atmosphere. Benefiting from the thin CoO/NiO nanosheets with a large specific surface area, abundant pores distributed between the CoO/NiO nanosheets, and GO firmly wrapped around the surface of PHCNO microspheres, the PHCNO/GO microspheres showed excellent lithium storage performance. The CoO/NiO nanosheets provided numerous active sites, achieving a high reversible specific capacity.

Ultrahigh Exchange Bias Field/Coercive Field Ratio in In Situ Formed Two-Dimensional Magnetic Te-CrO/CrTe Heterostructures.

Adv Mater

January 2025

Hunan Key Laboratory of Two-Dimensional Materials, State Key Laboratory for Chemo/Biosensing and Chemometrics, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Hunan University, Changsha, Hunan, 410082, China.

The exchange bias (EB) effect is a fundamental magnetic phenomenon, in which the exchange bias field/coercive field ratio (|H/H|) can improve the stability of spintronic devices. Two-dimensional (2D) magnetic heterostructures have the potential to construct low-power and high-density spintronic devices, while their typically air unstable and |H/H| lesser, limiting the possibility of applications. Here, 2D CrTe nanosheets have been systematically synthesized with an in situ formed ≈2 nm-thick Te doped CrO layer (Te-CrO) on the upper surface by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method.

Chemo-Mechanical Due-Biomimetic Approach for Ultra-Stable Adsorption Across Multiple Scenarios.

Small Methods

January 2025

School of Chemistry and Materials, Department of Chemistry, Laboratory of Advanced Materials, State Key Laboratory of Molecular Engineering of Polymers, Fudan University, Shanghai, 200433, P. R. China.

The unique adhesion capabilities of soft-bodied creatures such as leeches and octopuses have provided considerable inspiration for the development of artificial adhesive materials. However, previous studies have either focused on the design of sucker structures or concentrated on the synthesis of adhesive materials, with the combination of these two aspects not yet having been deeply investigated. In this study, inspired from leech's unique adsorption ability, a biomimetic approach is proposed that combined artificial sucker and mucus, to achieve remarkable adhesion stability on rough surfaces using 5 cm diameter silicone suction cups.

Nitrogen heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) are emerging as effective substitutes for conventional thiol ligands in surface functionalization of nanoparticles (NPs), offering exceptional stability to NPs under harsh conditions. However, the highly reactive feature of NHCs limits their use in introducing chemically active groups onto the NP surface. Herein, we develop a general yet robust strategy for the efficient surface functionalization of NPs with copolymer ligands bearing various functional groups.

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Reproductive Genetics (Ministry of Education) and Department of Reproductive Endocrinology, Women's Hospital, School of Medicine, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China.

Prenatal cell-free DNA (cfDNA) screening has advanced significantly, extending beyond detecting aneuploidies to sub-chromosomal copy number variations. However, its application for screening dominant single-gene conditions, often caused by de novo variants, remains underutilized in the general obstetric population. This study reviews recent data and experience on prenatal cfDNA screening for dominant monogenic conditions using multiple-gene panels, highlighting its potential to enhance early detection and management of genetic disorders.

An improved sparrow search algorithm with multi-strategy integration.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Key Laboratory for Information Science of Electromagnetic Waves and the Research Center of Smart Networks and Systems, School of Information Science and Technology, Fudan University, Shanghai, 200433, China.

Addressing the shortcomings of the Sparrow Search Algorithm (SSA), such as low accuracy of convergence and tendency of falling into local optimum, a Multi-strategy Integrated Sparrow Search Algorithm (MISSA) is proposed. In this method, by improving the black-winged kite algorithm and applying it to the producer's position update formula, an improved search strategy (ISS) is firstly proposed to enhance search ability. Secondly, a new strategy inspired by the Coot algorithm, called the group follow strategy (GFS), is proposed to improve the ability to jump out of the local optimum.
