[Clinical Outcomes of Transurethral Water Vapor Energy Therapy with Rezumᵀᴹ System].

We carefully reviewed and evaluated the efficacy of transurethral water vapor energy therapy (WAVE) with Rezumᵀᴹ system for treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. Between April and September 2023, 41 patients received WAVE under local anesthesia as day surgery at the outpatient department in our institution. The mean age as of operation was 78.

Tc-Sn-colloid SPECT/CT in thoracic splenosis after esophageal cancer surgery.

Splenosis occurs as a result of autotransplantation of splenic tissue following splenic injury or splenectomy. A 56-year-old man with esophageal cancer underwent thoracoscopic-assisted subtotal esophagectomy accompanied by three-field lymph node dissection, and retrosternal gastric tube reconstruction. The spleen was injured during the surgery and was removed.

Relationship between Information and Communication Device Usage and Development of Hand Disorders.

This study examined the association between hand disorders and time spent using information and communication devices. The participants in this study, conducted between January 2017 and 2020, were 150 healthy university students. They were tested for carpal tunnel syndrome and De Quervain's tenosynovitis.

Long-term prognoses of patients with and without re-rupture after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair.

[Purpose] We followed-up patients who underwent arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ARCR) for 2 years to assess the prognosis of rotator cuff tears and compared the outcomes of the patients with and without re-rupture. We also examined the usefulness of Shoulder36, a self-assessment tool, for assessing the long-term prognosis in patients undergoing ARCR. [Participants and Methods] We included 28 patients who received occupational therapy pre- and post-ARCR between April 2012 and August 2015 and categorized them based on the occurrence of re-rupture.

Long-term effects of combined botulinum toxin treatment and rehabilitation on upper limb muscle spasms: a case report.

[Purpose] We report our experience with a patient with a central spinal cord injury who showed improved finger and upper limb functions after long-term treatment with a combination of rehabilitation and botulinum toxin type A. [Participants and Methods] The patient had spasms and pain that gradually became more profound and was given botulinum toxin type A at 1 year 3 months after sustaining a spinal cord injury. We administered 14 botulinum toxin type A injections periodically for 7 years 4 months after the injury.

Enucleation of the prostate: An anatomical perspective.

Among transurethral surgery for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), anatomical endoscopic enucleation of the prostate (AEEP) differs from conventional transurethral surgery as it adopts the same enucleation principle as open surgery. AEEP is known as an effective and safe surgical method. However, the learning curve is steep because the surgical anatomy is different from that of conventional transurethral surgery.

The clinical utility of a decision-aid to facilitate the use of the hand in real-life activities of patients with distal radius fractures: A case study.

Background: Occupation-based intervention (OBI) in hand therapy has shown superior benefits in patient-reported performance and physical measures; however, only a few studies have used OBI. We developed a decision-aid to promote the use of an injured hand in the real world (Aid for Decision-making in Occupation Choice for hand; ADOC-H) PURPOSE: To investigate the clinical utility of the ADOC-H (paper version) in patients with distal radius fractures.

Peptide vaccinations elicited strong immune responses that were reboosted by anti-PD1 therapy in a patient with myxofibrosarcoma.

Peptide-based immunotherapy does not usually elicit strong immunological and clinical responses in patients with end-stage cancer, including sarcoma. Here we report a myxofibrosarcoma patient who showed a strong clinical response to peptide vaccinations and whose immune responses were reboosted by anti-PD1 therapy combined with peptide vaccinations. The 46-year-old man showed a strong response to the peptide vaccinations (papillomavirus binding factor peptide, survivin-2B peptide, incomplete Freund's adjuvant, and polyethylene glycol-conjugated interferon-alpha 2a) and subsequent wide necrosis and massive infiltration of CD8+ T cells in a recurrent tumor.

A randomized controlled trial of the effect of 2-step orthosis treatment for a mallet finger of tendinous origin.

Study Design: A randomized clinical trial, with patients treated either by new 2-step orthosis or by the figure-eight-type orthosis with the distal interphalangeal (DIP) joint extended.

Purpose Of The Study: To report on our new orthosis and to evaluate the treatment efficacy of using a 2-step orthosis for the treatment of a mallet finger of tendinous origin compared with a conventional orthosis.

Methods: Forty-four patients were randomized into the 2-step or conventional orthosis groups.

Availability of on-site acute vascular interventional radiology techniques performed by trained acute care specialists: A single-emergency center experience.

Introduction: Comprehensive treatment of a patient in acute medicine and surgery requires the use of both surgical techniques and other treatment methods. Recently, acute vascular interventional radiology techniques (AVIRTs) have become increasingly popular, enabling adequately trained in-house experts to improve the quality of on-site care.

Methods: After obtaining approval from our institutional ethics committee, we conducted a retrospective study of AVIRT procedures performed by acute care specialists trained in acute medicine and surgery over a 1-year period, including those conducted out of hours.

This study examined the impact of platelet transfusion (PLT) on the survival of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) patients who had been administered anti-platelet agents (APA). This retrospective cohort analysis investigated 432 patients (259 men, 60%) who were newly diagnosed with ICH between January 2006 and June 2011 at the tertiary emergency center of Kitasato University Hospital. Median age on arrival was 67.

Objective: We examined the relationship between morcellation efficiency and enucleated tissue weight in holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) for patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) retrospectively.

[An effective method to shorten the learning curve of HoLEP].

[The definition and frequency of clinically unimportant prostate cancer in the patients treated with radical prostatectomy].

In autopsy studies more than 20% of men > 50 years old have prostate cancer, yet the lifetime risk of developing clinical cancer of the prostate is much less. Thus, early detection should not aim to all cancers, but only those that are potentially morbid or lethal.
