Background: Myocardial infarction (MI) dramatically changes the mechanical stress, which is intensified by the fibrotic remodeling. Integrins, especially the αV subunit, mediate mechanical signal and mechanoparacrine of transforming growth factor β1 (TGF-β1) in various organ fibrosis by activating CFs into myofibroblasts (MFBs). We investigated a possible role of integrin αV mediated mechanoparacrine of TGF-β1 in MFBs activation for fibrous reparation in mice with MI.

The ketone bodies, especially the β-hydroxybutyrate, had been shown to modulate the function of the central nervous system and prevent the pathological progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, little is known about the role of acetoacetate in the AD brain. Thus, we intraventricularly injected acetoacetate into familial AD mice (APPSWE) for 14 days and monitored their memory and biochemical changes.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study compares the diagnostic effectiveness of positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET/CT) and convex probe endobronchial ultrasound (CP-EBUS) elastography in detecting intrathoracic lymph node metastasis and evaluates whether their combination enhances diagnostic accuracy.
  • - Researchers analyzed data from 154 lymph nodes (LNs) in a model group and 53 LNs in a validation group, finding that certain metrics from both PET/CT and elastography were strong predictors of malignancy.
  • - The combined approach of PET/CT and elastography showed high sensitivity (85.87%) and specificity (88.71%) for identifying malignant LNs, with elastography outperforming PET/CT in diagnostic accuracy in

Background: Mechanical obstruction is the most common cause of shunt failure for hydrocephalic patients. However, the diagnosis is extremely challenging and often requires invasive testing methods. Thus, a simple and non-invasive technique is in urgent need to predict the intracranial pressure (ICP) of hydrocephalic patients during their post-surgical follow-up, which could help neurosurgeons to determine the conditions of the shunt system.

Role of Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptors (PPARs) in Trophoblast Functions.

Int J Mol Sci

January 2021

Center of Gynecological Endocrinology and Reproductive Medicine, Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Ludwig-Maximilians University of Munich, Marchioninistr. 15, 81377 Munich, Germany.

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARα, PPAR, and PPAR) belong to the transcription factor family, and they are highly expressed in all types of trophoblast during pregnancy. The present review discusses currently published papers that are related to the regulation of PPARs via lipid metabolism, glucose metabolism, and amino acid metabolism to affect trophoblast physiological conditions, including differentiation, maturation, secretion, fusion, proliferation, migration, and invasion. Recent pieces of evidence have proven that the dysfunctions of PPARs in trophoblast lead to several related pregnancy diseases such as recurrent miscarriage, preeclampsia, intrauterine growth restriction, and gestational diabetes mellitus.
