Background: Amid a movement toward value-based healthcare, increasing emphasis has been placed on outcomes and cost of medical services. To define and demonstrate the quality of services provided by Mohs surgeons, it is important to identify and understand the key aspects of Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) that contribute to excellence in patient care.
Objective: The purpose of this study is to develop and identify a comprehensive list of metrics in an initial effort to define excellence in MMS.

Background: Sporadic inclusion body myositis (sIBM) is a rare and slowly progressive skeletal muscle disease that can cause hand dysfunction, which is a major source of disability. Tendon transfers have been reliably used to improve function in other neuromuscular settings. Given that sIBM patients often present with flexion impairments and mostly functioning extensors, we investigated the potential opportunity for tendon transfer surgery to improve hand dysfunction in sIBM patients.

Lower eyelid skin is unique and different from that of other areas. In addition to being an area of high exposure to the sun and elements, there are anatomic considerations and specific histologic characteristics that can cause the skin in this area to be more sensitive. These attributes can readily cause under-eye wrinkling and pigmentation.

Objective: The aim of this study was to address the limited understanding of neuropathic pain (NP) among burn survivors by comprehensively examining its prevalence and related factors on a national scale using the Burn Model System (BMS) National Database.
Background: NP is a common but underexplored complaint among burn survivors, greatly affecting their quality of life and functionality well beyond the initial injury. Existing data on NP and its consequences in burn survivors are limited to select single-institution studies, lacking a comprehensive national perspective.

Limb salvage is a difficult path for patients to travel as there is no guarantee of the outcome, often the major factor is perfusion. For patients who underwent transmetatarsal amputation (TMA), success rate is crucial as the next option is most likely a major amputation. We performed a 10 years (2010-2020) retrospective review of patients that underwent a TMA and had an angiogram or computed tomography angiography (CTA) perioperatively at the Dallas VA Medical Center.

Background: Home foot temperature monitoring (HFTM) is recommended for those at moderate to high ulcer risk. Where a > 2.2°C difference in temperature between feet (hotspot) is detected, it is suggested that individuals (1) notify a healthcare professional (HCP); (2) reduce daily steps by 50%.

Introduction And Hypothesis: Postoperative laboratory tests are routinely ordered after apical prolapse repair on asymptomatic patients. We hypothesize that routine serum hemoglobin (Hb) and creatinine (Cr) have limited clinical utility in the postoperative period in asymptomatic patients.
Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study of patients who underwent surgical repair of apical prolapse between 2017 and 2019 at our institution.

Purpose: The COVID-19 pandemic uniquely impacted patients with breast cancer as mastectomies were allowed to proceed, yet breast reconstruction surgeries were halted. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the rates of breast reconstruction and patients' well-being.
Methods: A chart review included all patients who underwent mastectomy from December 2019 to September 2021.
Hemangiomas of the nasal tip are a relatively uncommon presentation of a common tumor. While optimal medical and surgical management of nasal tip infantile hemangiomas has been described and debated extensively in the literature, to our knowledge, there is no report of secondary aesthetic and functional rhinoplasty in these patients at skeletal maturity, until now. This special topic article provides an excellent example of the 5 key technical elements to revision rhinoplasty in the skeletally mature patient with a history of nasal tip infantile hemangioma.

Unlabelled: We aimed to review common patient concerns after surgical repair of distal radius fracture (DRF) to identify potential interventions to improve the gap between expectation and education for DRF patients.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of 100 consecutive patients who underwent surgical repair of DRF at a level I trauma center. Patient-initiated communication notes were reviewed with thematic analysis to identify the common reasons patients required additional information.

Preservation rhinoplasty is a growing area of interest among rhinoplasty surgeons. Dorsal preservation-a tenet of preservation rhinoplasty-is predicated on maintaining the integrity of the nasal midvault and effecting aesthetic change through alterations to the bony nasal pyramid and underlying septum. A challenge that is unique to dorsal preservation is the phenomenon of hump recurrence, because of the existence of anatomical blocking points.

Alar contour grafts are an excellent adjunct in both primary and revision rhinoplasty for correction and prevention of alar rim irregularities. They are traditionally placed at the conclusion of a rhinoplasty through a vestibular incision along the underside of the alar rim. Alternatively, alar base resection provides an opportunity for precise retrograde placement of alar contour grafts.

Objective: The objective of this study was to describe adherence to behavioral and pelvic floor muscle training in women undergoing vaginal reconstructive surgery for organ prolapse and to examine whether adherence was associated with 24-month outcomes.
Methods: Participants were women ≥18 years of age, with vaginal bulge and stress urinary incontinence symptoms, planning to undergo vaginal reconstructive surgery for stages 2 to 4 vaginal or uterine prolapse. They were randomized to either sacrospinous ligament fixation or uterosacral ligament suspension and to perioperative behavioral and pelvic floor muscle training or usual care.
Background: In primary rhinoplasty, use of harvested septal cartilage often precludes the need for rib graft. Nonetheless, there are a number of indications for the use of rib graft in primary rhinoplasty. The purpose of this study was to identify the indications and techniques for rib graft use in primary rhinoplasty.

Introduction: Textured tissue expanders (TEs) had previously gained popularity due to minimizing expander migration, rotation, and capsule migration. Recent studies, though, have revealed increased risk of anaplastic large-cell lymphoma associated with certain macrotextured implants, prompting surgeons at our institution to switch to smooth TEs; evaluation is thus required for specific viability and similarity of outcomes of smooth TEs. Our study aims to evaluate perioperative complications in prepectoral placement of smooth versus textured TEs.
