Background: Debridement is considered the first step in treatment of chronic wounds, however, current enzymatic and autolytic debridement agents are slow or ineffective. Previous studies have shown positive initial results with EscharEx® (EX-02 formulation), a Bromelain-based enzymatic debridement agent in development for chronic wounds. The main objective of this study was to assess its efficacy in debriding venous leg ulcers (VLU), compared to gel vehicle (GV) as a placebo control and to non-surgical standard of care (NSSOC).

Background: Flow-through flaps (FTFs) are an advanced technique in which a free flap is anastomosed to the pedicle of another free flap to reconstruct extensive head and neck defects when recipient vessels are scarce.
Methods: A multi-institutional cohort of FTFs used for head and neck reconstruction were reviewed. For comparison, FTF outcomes were compared to free flaps that required vein grafts (VG) to reach distant recipient vessels.

Background: Outpatient plastic surgery offers cost-effective solutions and enhanced privacy but demands careful patient assessment for suitability and vigilant anticipation of adverse events. This study provides recommendations to enhance patient safety in outpatient settings by analyzing over 40,000 consecutive cases spanning across three decades.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed all consecutive cases completed by board-certified plastic surgeons at an accredited outpatient surgical center between 1995-2023.

Introduction: Continued interest in the optimization of recovery in aesthetics has led to the exploration of adjunctive therapies. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) serves as one such therapy that may have an impact in this field. HBOT is hypothesized to improve ischemia, reduce swelling, and minimize secondary hypoxic tissue damage.

Background: Adults living with head and neck burn injuries experience psychosocial consequences due to scarring as well as functional disabilities. However, the impact of head and neck burns on long-term self-reported psychosocial outcomes, return to work, and need for reconstructive surgery has not been well described. This study investigates the unique longitudinal problems in psychosocial and functional recovery faced by adults with head and neck burn injuries.

Preoperative volume asymmetry in the upper eyelid sulci can pose a challenge in achieving symmetry after upper eyelid blepharoplasty. Reported methods to improve volume asymmetry include the use of soft tissue filler and various surgical techniques. The authors present 6 cases where a central preaponeurotic fat advancement pedicle was utilized during upper eyelid blepharoplasty for improved upper eyelid symmetry (Fig.

Purpose: Online health information seekers may access information produced by artificial intelligence language models such as ChatGPT (OpenAI). The medical field may pose a significant challenge for incorporating these applications given the training and experience needed to master clinical reasoning. The objective was to evaluate the performance of ChatGPT responses compared to human oculofacial plastic surgeon (OPS) responses to FAQs about an upper eyelid blepharoplasty procedure.
