Characterization of a simple gas expansion ion source for intense pulses of subthermal molecular ions.

We describe a simple gas expansion ion source based on static discharge voltages and a commercially available pulsed valve. The discharge is initiated by the gas pulse itself between two high voltage electrodes, without the need for fast voltage switches or complex timing schemes. The ion source very reliably produces intense bursts of molecular ions (with currents exceeding 100 μA during the pulse-on phase) with only minor pulse-to-pulse variations in intensity and pulse shape.

We detail the REACH radiometric system designed to enable measurements of the 21-cm neutral hydrogen line. This review discusses key developments in the application of AFM, highlighting its ability to capture nanomechanical properties of cellular surfaces and probe dynamic interactions, such as virus-host binding. AFM's versatility in measuring mechanical forces and mapping molecular interactions in near-physiological conditions is explored.

Osler-Weber-Rendu syndrome, or hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT), is a rare vascular disorder characterized by arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) in various organs, including the lungs. Pulmonary AVMs (PAVMs) are especially worrisome due to their potential to form right-to-left shunts, resulting in life-threatening complications such as paradoxical embolism and stroke . Gravity has long been purported to serve a unique role in sensorimotor coordination, but the specific mechanisms underlying gravity-based visuomotor realignment remain elusive. In this study, astronauts (9 males, 2 females) performed targeted hand movements with eyes open or closed, both on the ground and in weightlessness. Measurements revealed systematic drift in hand-path orientation seen only when eyes were closed and only in very specific conditions with respect to gravity.
