Purpose: To provide a comprehensive review of the means by which to optimize target volume definition for the purposes of treatment planning for patients with intact prostate cancer with a specific emphasis on focal boost volume definition.

Methods: Here we conduct a narrative review of the available literature summarizing the current state of knowledge on optimizing target volume definition for the treatment of localized prostate cancer.

Results: Historically, the treatment of prostate cancer included a uniform prescription dose administered to the entire prostate with or without coverage of all or part of the seminal vesicles.

Background And Objectives: Renal involvement in systemic sclerosis remains a significant concern with the focus often centered on scleroderma renal crisis (SRC). However, the broader spectrum of renal manifestations, beyond SRC, remains underrecognized. In our case-control analysis, we describe other causes, risk factors, and renal outcomes of acute kidney injury (AKI) in systemic sclerosis other than SRC.

Background: Persons assigned female or intersex at birth and identify as transgender and/or gender-diverse (TGD) may undergo gender-affirming chest masculinization surgery (GACMS); however, GACMS is not considered equivalent to risk-reducing mastectomies (RRM). This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of elevated breast cancer (BC) risk in TGD persons, compare self-perceived versus calculated risk, and determine how risk impacts the decision for GACMS versus RRM.

Methods: A prospective single-arm pilot educational intervention trial was conducted in individuals assigned female or intersex at birth, age ≥ 18 years, considering GACMS, without a BC history or a known pathogenic variant.

Background: More than 2.5 million adults in the United States identify as transgender or gender-diverse (TGD), but little data exist on cancer screening and care for this population. We examined cancer characteristics, screening adherence, genetic testing, and provider inclusive language for TGD patients with cancer.

Objective: We sought to evaluate the quality and timeliness of patient-reported outcome (PRO) measure reporting, which have not been previously studied.

Methods: Clinical trials that informed new US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approvals for the first rheumatological indication between 1995 and 2021 were identified. Data were recorded to determine whether collected PROs were published, met minimum clinically important difference (MCID) or statistical significance ( < 0.

Aconite poisoning refers to toxicity resulting from plants belonging to the Aconitum genus, which comprises over 350 different species of perennial flowering plants that grow in temperate mountainous areas of the northern hemisphere (North America, Europe, Asia). These plants contain a group of toxins known as aconite alkaloids, which encompass numerous closely related toxic compounds. Conventional teaching from toxicology textbooks has broadly classified these alkaloids based on their mechanism of action, often simplifying them as substances that prevent sodium channel inactivation.

Am J Health Syst Pharm

July 2024

Oncology & Infusion Pharmacy Services, Department of Pharmacy, UCHealth, Aurora, CO, USA.

Article Synopsis
  • The text discusses the advancements in bispecific T cell-engaging therapies for cancer treatment, highlighting their unique ability to bind to both tumor-specific antigens and T cells to trigger an immune response.
  • Several bispecific therapies, such as epcoritamab and glofitamab, have recently been approved for various types of blood cancers, including diffuse large B cell lymphoma and multiple myeloma.
  • These therapies come with risks like cytokine release syndrome, necessitating careful monitoring and specific operational strategies that healthcare professionals, particularly pharmacists, must be aware of during administration.
