High-dose chemotherapy followed by autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) remains the standard of care for multiple myeloma (MM) patients. Although outpatient ASCT has been shown to be safe and feasible, the procedure is overall rare with most patients in the US undergoing inpatient ASCT. Furthermore, hospitalization rates for patients that undergo outpatient ASCT remain high.

Adolescents and young adults (AYAs) may be cared for in a pediatric or adult ICU. Specific needs of AYAs differ from those of populations typically found in either ICU. This review identifies research focused on experiences of AYAs in ICUs, their family members, and the health care professionals who care for them, revealing limited research about AYAs in ICUs: 10 articles met inclusion criteria and findings revealed that AYAs want to be treated as individuals and need health care professionals to partner with them.

The endocannabinoid signaling system (ECSS) regulates fear and anxiety. While ECSS hypoactivity can contribute to symptoms of established post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), the role of the ECSS in PTSD development following trauma is unknown. A prospective, longitudinal cohort study of 170 individuals (47% non-Hispanic Caucasian and 70% male) treated at a level 1 trauma center for traumatic injury was carried out.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a body mass index (BMI)-based enoxaparin prophylaxis dosing protocol at achieving target anti-factor Xa (anti-Xa) concentrations in the trauma population.
Methods: This retrospective chart review evaluated anti-Xa concentrations in adult trauma patients who received prophylactic enoxaparin over a three-month period. The primary outcome was the percentage of patients that achieved target anti-Xa concentrations after ≥3 doses of enoxaparin.

Introduction: When used for wound management, negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) delivers subatmospheric pressure at the wound site, exerting multiple beneficial effects, including microstrain, macrostrain, edema management, granulation tissue formation, drainage management, and wound stabilization. Comparative effectiveness research has demonstrated similar wound healing and adverse event outcomes between traditional NPWT (tNPWT) and mechanical NPWT (mNPWT). Therefore, considerations for patient selection for mNPWT vs tNPWT are in alignment with current recommendations, including therapeutic goals, wound-related factors, patient satisfaction, quality of life, care setting, economic-related factors, and product design.

Department of Radiation Oncology, Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA.
Purpose: To reduce workload and inconsistencies in organ segmentation for radiation treatment planning, we developed and evaluated general and custom autosegmentation models on computed tomography (CT) for three major tumor sites using a well-established deep convolutional neural network (DCNN).
Methods: Five CT-based autosegmentation models for 42 organs at risk (OARs) in head and neck (HN), abdomen (ABD), and male pelvis (MP) were developed using a full three-dimensional (3D) DCNN architecture. Two types of deep learning (DL) models were separately trained using either general diversified multi-institutional datasets or custom well-controlled single-institution datasets.
