The problem of unaffordable prescription medications in the United States is complex and can result in poor patient adherence to therapy, worse clinical outcomes, and high costs to the healthcare system. While providers are aware of the financial burden of healthcare for patients, there is a lack of actionable price transparency at the point of prescribing. Real-time prescription benefit (RTPB) tools are new electronic clinical decision support tools that retrieve patient- and medication-specific out-of-pocket cost information and display it to clinicians at the point of prescribing.

Division of Transplant Surgery, Department of Surgery, Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Transplant Center, Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Electronic address:

Background: Liver transplantation (LT) for severe alcohol-associated hepatitis (AH) remains controversial due to perceived increased recidivism risk after LT because of a lack of protracted abstinence before LT. Data on risk stratification for alcohol relapse after LT are limited. We sought to evaluate the utility of having a mental health program embedded in a transplantation center in risk assessment for alcohol relapse-free patient survival after LT.

Impaired wound healing in diabetes.

J Wound Care

October 2022

Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin, Community Hospital Division, US.

Impaired wound healing for patients with diabetes is due to a constellation of structural, biochemical, cellular and microbial factors. Hyperglycaemia and its associated inflammation contribute to immune dysfunction, vascular damage, neuropathy, cellular senescence, impaired transition beyond the inflammatory stage, microbiome disruptions, failed extracellular matrix formation, growth factor and cytokine imbalance, limited re-epithelialisation, and alterations in fibroblast migration and proliferation. Optimising glycaemic control remains the primary intervention to prevent continual dysfunction and comorbid disease progression.
