Patients And Methods: A total of 80 patients with lower urinary tract symptoms attributable to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) were enrolled in a prospective, randomized, controlled, non-blinded study conducted at 10 European centres. The BPH6 responder endpoint assessed symptom relief, quality of recovery, erectile function preservation, ejaculatory function preservation, continence preservation and safety.

A case of recurrent swimming-induced pulmonary edema in a triathlete: the need for awareness.

This report discusses a rare case of a 55-year-old female triathlete who developed recurrent episodes of swimming-induced pulmonary edema (SIPE). She had two hospital admissions with pulmonary edema after developing breathlessness while swimming, including a near-drowning experience in an open water swim. With increasing popularity of triathlon and open water sports, this case highlights the importance of a greater awareness of SIPE among health professionals, event organizers, and athletes.

Objectives: To compare the effects of two neurodynamic treatment doses on range of hip flexion (ROM HF) and electromyographic (EMG) activity of semitendinosus, at first onset of pain (P1).

Methods: A total of 26 healthy participants without low back or leg pain received each treatment in a random order with at least 48 hours between sessions.

Background: The Serratus anterior muscle plane (SAP) block has recently been described for the purpose of perioperative pain management following cases of trauma and breast surgery. Materials And Methods: In this multicenter, cross-sectional cohort of men who underwent template prostate mapping biopsies between May 2006 and January 2012, 4 different thresholds of significance combining tumor grade and burden were used to measure the consequent variation with respect to the prevalence of clinically significant disease.

Myocardial edema in Takotsubo syndrome mimicking apical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy: An insight into diagnosis by cardiovascular magnetic resonance.

Myocardial edema is one of the characteristic features in the pathogenesis of Takotsubo syndrome. We report a middle aged man who presented with typical clinical and echocardiographic features of apical variant of Takotsubo syndrome. However, a cardiovascular magnetic resonance study performed 10 days after presentation did not show any apical 'ballooning' but revealed features of an apical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy on cine images.

The Q80K polymorphism in the hepatitis C virus (HCV) NS3 enzyme reduces susceptibility to simeprevir and other novel protease inhibitors. The aims of this study were to determine the prevalence of Q80K in treatment-naïve HCV-1a carriers in the North West region (NW) and South East region (SE) of England, investigate the occurrence of Q80K as a minority variant, and characterize viral phylogeny. Plasma samples from subjects who were naïve to anti-HCV therapy were subjected to conventional (Sanger) and deep (Illumina-Miseq, 1% interpretative cut-off) sequencing of NS3.

Defining response to anti-VEGF therapies in neovascular AMD.

The introduction of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) has made significant impact on the reduction of the visual loss due to neovascular age-related macular degeneration (n-AMD). There are significant inter-individual differences in response to an anti-VEGF agent, made more complex by the availability of multiple anti-VEGF agents with different molecular configurations. The response to anti-VEGF therapy have been found to be dependent on a variety of factors including patient's age, lesion characteristics, lesion duration, baseline visual acuity (VA) and the presence of particular genotype risk alleles.

Removing PEG tubes with 'buried bumpers': Lessons learnt from four patients.

We noted an increase in the number of presentations with dysfunctional PEG tubes due to the 'buried bumper syndrome' (BBS). There is no standard approach to this problem, although case reports exist of endoscopic needle knife excision and forceful pulling. We present a description of our experience in the management of this problem and the lessons learnt by complications or adverse outcomes.
