Alginate (ALG) and its oxidised form alginate-dialdehyde (ADA) are highly attractive materials for hydrogels used in 3D bioprinting as well as drop-on-demand (DoD) approaches. However, both polymers need to be modified using cell-adhesive peptide sequences, to obtain bioinks exhibiting promising cell-material interactions. Our study explores the modification of ALG- and ADA-based bioinks with the adhesive peptides YIGSR (derived from laminin), RRETEWA (derived from fibronectin) and IKVAV (derived from laminin) for 3D bioprinting.

In parametric DR, neural networks are trained to embed high-dimensional data items in a low-dimensional space while minimizing an objective function. ParaDime builds on the idea that the objective functions of several modern DR techniques result from transformed inter-item relationships.

50 years ago back in 1971, David C. Taylor and colleagues from England reported on a small series of surgical epilepsy cases proposing a new type of tissue lesion as a cause of difficult-to-treat focal epilepsy: a localized malformation of cerebral cortex. The lesion is now known as focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) Type II or Taylor's cortical dysplasia.

Background: Cold-water immersion (CWI) has become a popular preventive, regenerative and performance-enhancing intervention in various sports. However, its effects on soft tissue, including changes of intramuscular stiffness, are poorly understood. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of CWI on muscle stiffness.

Background: Informal caregivers' (CGs') subjective burden is an important aspect of the care situation because it is linked to various outcomes such as health, mortality risk, institutionalization, and caregiving style. The aims of this study were a) to examine the convergent and discriminant validity of the 10-item short version of the Burden Scale for Family Caregivers (BSFC-s) and b) to develop a valid classification system for interpreting BSFC-s scores.
Methods: In this cross-sectional study, we analyzed data obtained from 386 informal CGs who applied for an initial grade or upgrade of the care level for the care recipient at the Medical Service of Compulsory Health Insurance Funds of Bavaria (Germany).
Eukaryotic nuclei are subdivided into subnuclear structures. Among the most prominent of these structures are the nucleolus and the PML nuclear bodies (PML-NBs). PML-NBs are spherical multiprotein aggregates of varying size localized in the interchromosomal area.

Acute aortic dissection is a life-threatening condition mainly caused by hypertension, atherosclerotic disease and other degenerative diseases of the connective tissue of the aortic wall. Mesothelial/monocytic incidental cardiac excrescences (cardiac MICE) is a rare benign reactive tumor-like lesion composed of admixture of histiocytes, mesothelial cells, and inflammatory cells set within a fibrinous meshwork without a vascular network or supporting stroma. Cardiac MICE occurring in association with aortic dissection is exceptionally rare (only one such case reported to date).

Primary cardiac tumors are very rare, atrial myxoma being the most common benign tumor of the heart. They may present with a great variety of incidental asymptomatic masses to severe life-threatening cardiovascular complications necessitating emergency surgery. Here we report the diagnostic evaluation and successful surgical resection of such a giant cardiac tumor which was found on a routine medical check-up in a 62-year-old patient.

The FGF/FGFR-system plays an important role in embryogenesis, tissue homeostasis and carcinogenesis. Mutational activation of FGFR2 resulting in aberrant FGFR2 signaling activation is known from both hereditary germ line alterations and somatic mutations in various malignancies (e.g.

Background And Aim: Heart transplantation (HTX) has become an established therapy for patients with end-stage heart failure. However, cancer incidence has been shown to be increased in the context of transplant-associated immunosuppression. The objective of this study is to analyze the incidence, histological spectrum, treatment and survival of various cancer types in HTX patients.
