Scope: The α-tocopherol long-chain metabolite α-tocopherol-13'-hydroxy-chromanol (α-T-13'-COOH) is a proposed regulatory intermediate of endogenous vitamin E metabolism. Effects of α-T-13'-COOH on cell viability and adaptive stress response are not well understood. The present study aims to investigate the concentration-dependent effects of α-T-13'-COOH on cellular redox homeostasis, genotoxicity, and cytotoxicity in murine RAW264.

Climate change and land-use intensification are threatening soil communities and ecosystem functions. Understanding the combined effects of climate change and land use is crucial for predicting future impacts on soil biodiversity and ecosystem functioning in agroecosystems. Here, we used a field experiment to quantify the combined effects of climate change (warming and altered precipitation patterns) and land use (agricultural type and management intensity) on soil food webs across nematodes, micro-, and macroarthropods.

Purpose: Complex chromosomal rearrangements (CCRs) often remain unidentified as they are rarely observed in the general population. Females with CCRs are generally recognized on the identification of an affected child with multiple congenital anomalies (MCA) or having a history of repeated pregnancy loss/bad obstetric history (RPL/BOH). In contrast, males with CCRs are diagnosed primarily due to infertility.

Polar angle asymmetries (PAAs), the differences in perceptual experiences and performance across different regions of the visual field are present in various paradigms and tasks of visual perception. Currently, research in this area is sparse, particularly regarding the influence of PAAs during perceptual illusions, highlighting a gap in visual cognition studies. We aim to fill this gap by measuring PAAs across the visual field during an illusion applied to test conscious vision widely.

Non-homologous chromosomal contacts (NHCCs) between different chromosomes participate considerably in gene and genome regulation. Due to analytical challenges, NHCCs are currently considered as singular, stochastic events, and their extent and fundamental principles across cell types remain controversial. We develop a supervised and unsupervised learning algorithm, termed Signature, to call NHCCs in Hi-C datasets to advance our understanding of genome topology.

Metalation of dimesitylphosphane oxide, MesP(O)H (1), with alkali metal reagents (BuLi, NaH, and A(hmds); A = K, Rb, and Cs) in THF yields the corresponding dimesitylphosphinites of lithium (2-thf), sodium (3-thf), potassium (4-thf), rubidium (5-thf), and caesium (6). Their molecular structures exhibit a broad and fascinating variety. Dinuclear compounds 2-thf, 3-thf, and 5-thf have central four-membered AO rings, whereas the potassium congener crystallises as a tetranuclear complex with an inner AO heterocubane cage.

The Rfam database, a widely used repository of non-coding RNA families, has undergone significant updates in release 15.0. This paper introduces major improvements, including the expansion of Rfamseq to 26 106 genomes, a 76% increase, incorporating the latest UniProt reference proteomes and additional viral genomes.

Like other eukaryotes, insect genomes contain a large portion of repetitive sequences, particularly transposable elements and satellite DNAs. This review highlights key studies on repetitive DNAs and examines their structural, functional, and evolutionary impact on insect genomes. Repetitive sequences promote genetic diversification through mutations and large-scale rearrangements, playing a crucial role in shaping genomic architecture, aiding organismal adaptation, and driving speciation.

π-π interactions decisively shape the supramolecular structure and functionality of π-conjugated molecular semiconductor materials. Despite the customizable molecular building blocks, predicting their supramolecular structure remains a challenge. Traditionally, force field methods have been used due to the complexity of these structures, but advances in computational power have enabled ab initio approaches such as density functional theory (DFT).

Introduction: Cancer-related malnutrition is a highly prevalent, yet often overlooked concern in clinical practice. Although cancer-related management guidelines recommend standardized nutritional care, its implementation is scarce. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of malnutrition and the medical need for nutrition counseling in cancer patients employing a novel standardized nutritional management program (containing malnutrition risk screening, nutritional assessment, and counseling).

Purpose: To compare the quality of deep learning image reconstructed (DLIR) virtual monochromatic images (VMI) and material density (MD) iodine images from dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) for the evaluation of head and neck neoplasms with CT scans from a conventional single-energy protocol.
Method: A total of 294 head and neck CT scans (98 VMIs operated at 60 keV, 102 MD iodine images, and 94 images from a 120 kVp single-energy CT (SECT) protocol) were retrospectively evaluated. VMIs and MD iodine images were generated using the Gemstone Spectral Imaging (GSI) mode using DLIR and metal artifact reduction (MAR) algorithms.

Objective: After infection with SARS-CoV-2, a substantial proportion of patients develop long-lasting sequelae. These sequelae include fatigue (potentially as severe as that seen in ME/CFS cases), cognitive dysfunction, and psychiatric symptoms. Because the pathophysiology of these sequelae remains unclear, existing therapeutic concepts address the symptoms through pacing strategies, cognitive training, and psychological therapy.

PTMs are crucial for biological processes contributing to healthy organ function. Protein post-translational modifications (PTMs), such as phosphorylation (P), acetylation (Ac), SUMOylation (SUMO), S-nitrosylation (Nitro), ubiquitination (Ub) and glycosylation (Glyco), affect a wide range of cellular and biological functions as depicted in this cartoon. Perturbations lead to severe consequences for the normal function of the brain and other organs, such as muscle.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is an idiopathic gastrointestinal disease with drastically increasing incidence rates. Due to its multifactorial etiology, a precise investigation of the pathogenesis is extremely difficult. Although reductionist cell culture models and more complex disease models in animals have clarified the understanding of individual disease mechanisms and contributing factors of IBD in the past, it remains challenging to bridge research and clinical practice.

We investigated the association between the immediate physical environment of individuals and individual fluctuations of momentary affective well-being in everyday life with a focus on medium sized metropolitan areas in Europe representing a typical living environment of a large proportion of the world's population. The sample comprised 365 individuals (54.8 % female) with participants ranging from 14.
