[ETP and transcultural clinics in health centers in French Guiana].

French Guiana is a "transcultural world" in its own right, with its indigenous "inland" populations, highly isolated from the healthcare system, more affected by chronic cardiometabolic and infectious diseases than either the coast or mainland France. Transcultural clinics and therapeutic patient education (TPE) therefore play a key role. French Guiana is a pioneer in TPE, health mediation and the practice of "outreach" via local hospitals, delocalized specialty consultations and so on.

Insights into insect predatory behaviour can be inferred indirectly from specimens housed in Natural History Collections. In this work, we document a unique interaction, never recorded before, involving the remains of a Westwood, 1840 ant worker -probably (Smith, 1855)- whose head is firmly attached by its mandibles to an antenna of a female hawk moth (Cramer, 1775) (Sphingidae). This specimen is part of the Entomology Collection at the MNCN-CSIC in Madrid, Spain.

Prevalence rate of high-grade cytological lesions of the cervix in women aged under 25 years in French Guiana.

Introduction: The incidence of cervical cancer in French Guiana is among the highest worldwide. It ranks 5th among all cancers and is the 2nd most common cancer in women after breast cancer. The primary objective of this study was to establish the proportion of high-grade cytological lesions of the cervix in women under 25 years of age who underwent a cervico-uterine smear (CUS) in French Guiana over a 10-year period.

Transcriptomic data reveal divergent paths of chitinase evolution underlying dietary convergence in anteaters and pangolins.

Ant-eating mammals represent a textbook example of convergent evolution. Among them, anteaters and pangolins exhibit the most extreme convergent phenotypes with complete tooth loss, elongated skulls, protruding tongues, and hypertrophied salivary glands producing large amounts of saliva. However, comparative genomic analyses have shown that anteaters and pangolins differ in their chitinase acidic gene (CHIA) repertoires, which potentially degrade the chitinous exoskeletons of ingested ants and termites.

Infections in Kidney Transplant Recipients: Perspectives in French Caribbean.

Few studies have focused on the infectious complications in kidney transplant recipients in tropical regions, particularly in the Caribbean. The primary objective of this study was to determine the incidence of bacterial, fungal, and parasitic infections in kidney transplant recipients in the French Caribbean and French Guiana. We included all patients who received a kidney transplant at the University Hospital of Guadeloupe between January 2014 and October 2016, with post-transplant follow-up in the French Caribbean.

Selective IgA Deficiency and Aseptic Liver Abscess as Initial Indicators of Crohn's Disease in a Young Woman: A Case Study.

BACKGROUND Hepatic lesion in a young woman can lead to multiple diagnostic hypotheses, mainly infection and tumor. Crohn's disease (CD) is hardly evoked by clinicians but is reportedly associated with liver damage, especially diffuse granulomas and aseptic abscess. IgA deficiency has been associated with celiac disease or inflammatory bowel disease, including CD.

[Implementation of geriatric oncology in a remote hospital in French Guiana].

Introduction: The aim was to analyze the implementation of the Onco-Geriatrics model in a remote ultramarine territory: West-French Guiana. The population is socially precarious in terms of income, social coverage and administrative status, and most often speaks a non-French language and has a non-Western culture.

Methods: Narrative description of the implementation and retrospective study of anonymized data from the database of older patients managed for cancer between September 2014 and December 2020.

Initial HIV-1 viral load in French Guiana: Factors associated with viral load set point differences.

Objectives: HIV viral load set points may vary between virus subtypes and host characteristics. The HIV epidemic in French Guiana entails a mix of viruses and populations of cosmopolitan origins. In this epidemiological context, we aimed to determine whether, at the scale of our territory, we could identify differences in HIV-1 viral load setpoints in our hospital cohort.

Case Report: Acute myocarditis and cerebral infarction following envenomation in Martinique: a case series.

(Bl), a snake endemic to Martinique, is responsible for numerous envenomations annually, leading to severe complications such as thrombosis, necrosis, and hemorrhage. This case series investigates the link between envenomation and acute myocarditis, utilizing cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to enhance management strategies. In both cases, cardiac MRI confirmed myocarditis with edema, and subsequent cerebral MRI revealed bilateral infarcts.

Fungal biomarkers in HIV-associated disseminated histoplasmosis: a multicenter diagnostic accuracy study on the Guiana shield.

Objectives: Diagnosis of HIV-associated histoplasmosis remains challenging. Our objective was to compare the performances of (1→3)-β-D-Glucan (BDG) and aspergillus galactomannan (GM) antigen for the diagnosis of HIV-associated histoplasmosis.

Methods: We performed a diagnostic accuracy study using frozen primary serum specimens issued from consecutive hospitalized people living with HIV (PLWH) and blindly tested for BDG and GM using Fungitell and PlateliaAspergillus, respectively.

Despite regular first aid standards training, some of the workers in isolated areas remain untrained in common problems they may encounter. We present here the knowledge assessment of these workers concerning first aid and a new training program.

is . , , from Bolivia and French Guiana, closely resembles Andrade in being brightly colored but differs in the metathoracic tibial chaetotaxy, the male pygofer, first anal segment, aedeagus, and color pattern. In this new species, which is larger than , females are larger than males.

A morphological and molecular study of Ligia exotica Roux, 1828 (Crustacea: Isopoda: Ligiidae) from Japan, with descriptions of two new species.

Ligia exotica Roux, 1828 was originally described based on specimens collected on a ship that came from Cayenne in French Guiana, and has been known to be widely distributed in the world. In Japan this species is the most common in Ligia, and two forms of L. exotica inhabit Osaka Bay, central Japan.

Aniops Casey, 1922, Psiona Casey, 1922, Preglyptobaris Bondar, 1946 and Prospoliata Hustache, 1950 are here proposed as new junior synonyms of Chryasus Champion, 1908 because their ostensibly diagnostic character states are more or less continuous following examination of numerous species from throughout their geographic ranges and are not valid as separate lineages in this broader context. Amphibaris bruniceps Bondar, 1946, Aniops sculpturatus Casey, 1922, Baris multistriata Chevrolat, 1880, Preglyptobaris bicolor Bondar, 1946, Psiona carinulosa Casey, 1922 and Psiona densa Casey, 1922 are transferred to Chryasus (new combinations). Baridius ignavus Boheman, 1844 and Amphibaris dispar Bondar, 1946 are transferred from Sphenobaris Champion, 1909 to Glyptobaris Casey, 1892 (new combinations).
