Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify potential association between transverse sinus stenosis (TSS) and temporal bone thinning downstream of TSS on computed tomography (CT).
Materials And Methods: Clinical and radiological data of patients with venous pulsatile tinnitus due to TSS (TSS group) and treated with stenting from 2019 to 2022 were retrospectively collected. An age-matched control group of patients with venous or neutral pulsatile tinnitus (control group) was built.

In endemic areas, the genetic diversity among co-circulating dengue virus (DENV) strains is considerable and new, highly divergent strains are identified on a regular basis. It is thus critical to ensure that molecular diagnostic tools effectively detect virus genomes even in case of important genetic variation. Here, we tested both the pan-DENV detection capacity and the limit of detection of two real-time RT-PCR assays: (i) the commercial RealStar Altona 3.

Background: Hemorrhagic shock (HS) and rhabdomyolysis (RM) are two important risk factors for acute kidney injury after severe trauma; however, the effects of the combination of RM and HS on kidney function are unknown. The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of RM and HS on renal function, oxygenation, perfusion, and morphology in a pig model.
Methods: Forty-seven female pigs were divided into five groups: sham, RM, HS, HS and moderate RM (RM4/HS), and HS and severe RM (RM8/HS).

Sleep and muscle injury-related pain are in negative relationship, and sleep extension may be a favorable countermeasure. In response to muscle injury, an adaptive sleep response has been described in rats, characterized by an increase in total sleep time (TST) and nonrapid eye movement (NREM) sleep. This study examined the effects of photoperiod lengthening (a model of sleep prolongation in rats) on the sleep characteristics of muscle-injured rats and whether this lengthening could benefit injury-induced mechanical hyperalgesia using the Von Frey test.

Background: Immunization against the Yellow fever virus (YFV) with the 17D live-attenuated vaccine is the most effective way to prevent the disease. However, unexpected severe adverse events can occur. They consist in a neurological impairment - neurological disease (YEL-AND), a YF-like illness - viscerotropic disease (YEL-AVD) or anaphylaxis.

A cluster of three confirmed autochthonous dengue cases was detected in October 2023 in the Val-de-Marne department neighbouring Paris, France. This marks the northernmost transmission of dengue in Europe reported to date. The epidemiological and microbiological investigations and the vector control measures are described.

Sandfly-borne phleboviruses are endemic in countries around the Mediterranean Basin and pose a significant health threat for populations, with symptoms spanning from febrile diseases to central nervous system involvement. We carried out a comprehensive cross-sectional screening via microneutralization (MN) assays for a quantitative assessment of neutralizing antibodies (NAs) to seven phleboviruses representing three distinct serocomplexes, using samples previously screened via immunofluorescence assays (IFAs) in Turkey, an endemic region with various phleboviruses in circulation. We detected NAs to three phleboviruses: Toscana virus (TOSV), sandfly fever Naples virus (SFNV), and sandfly fever Sicilian virus (SFSV), while assays utilizing Adana virus, Punique virus, Massilia virus, and Zerdali virus remained negative.

Diseases caused by arboviruses are on the increase worldwide. In addition to arthropod bites, most arboviruses can be transmitted via accessory routes. Products of human origin (labile blood products, solid organs, hematopoietic stem cells, tissues) present a risk of contamination for the recipient if the donation is made when the donor is viremic.

Dengue fever has been a public health problem in the Caribbean region since 1981, when it first reappeared in Cuba. In 1989, it was reported in Martinique and Guadeloupe (two French islands 200 km apart); since then, DENV has caused several epidemics locally. In 2019-2021, DENV-1, DENV-2, and DENV-3 were detected.

Despite several advances in the field of regenerative medicine, clinical management of extensive skin wounds or burns remains a major therapeutic issue. During the past few years, Mesenchymal Stromal Cells (MSCs) have emerged as a novel therapeutic tool to promote tissue repair through their anti-inflammatory, pro-trophic and pro-remodeling effects. They exert their biological activity mainly via the secretion of soluble bioactive molecules such as cytokines, growth factors, proteins and microRNAs which can be encapsulated within extracellular vesicles (EV).

Histological analysis of skeletal muscle is of major interest for understanding its behavior in different pathophysiological conditions, such as the response to different environments or myopathies. In this context, many software programs have been developed to perform automated high-content analysis. We created MuscleJ, a macro that runs in ImageJ/Fiji on batches of images.

Phages of highly pathogenic bacteria represent an area of growing interest for bacterial detection and identification and subspecies typing, as well as for phage therapy and environmental decontamination. Eight new phages-YpEc56, YpEc56D, YpEc57, YpEe58, YpEc1, YpEc2, YpEc11, and YpYeO9-expressing lytic activity towards revealed a virion morphology consistent with the morphotype. These phages lyse all 68 strains from 2 different sets of isolates, thus limiting their potential application for subtyping of strains but making them rather promising in terms of infection control.

Chikungunya is an arboviral disease causing arthralgia which may develop into a debilitating chronic arthritis. In Mayotte, a French overseas department in the Indian Ocean, a chikungunya outbreak was reported in 2006, affecting a third of the population. We aimed at assessing the chikungunya seroprevalence in this population, after over a decade from that epidemic.

Study Objectives: This study describes macro- and micro-sleep responses to a myotoxic skeletal muscle injury and investigates possible mechanisms.
Methods: We recorded the electroencephalogram (EEG)/electromyogram (EMG) of 24 Wistar rats before and after induction of tibialis anterior muscle injury (n = 8 per group: control, control + buprenorphine and injured). A top-down analysis of sleep characteristics was processed from total sleep time (TST), sleep stages, sleep stability, spectral analysis, and spindles.

This study investigates whether a functional single nucleotide polymorphism of (heme oxygenase-2) (rs4786504 T>C) is involved in individual chemosensitivity to acute hypoxia, as assessed by ventilatory responses, in European individuals. These responses were obtained at rest and during submaximal exercise, using a standardized and validated protocol for exposure to acute normobaric hypoxia. Carriers of the ancestral T allele ( = 44) have significantly lower resting and exercise hypoxic ventilatory responses than C/C homozygous carriers ( = 40).

Alumina nanoparticles (AlO NPs) can be released in occupational environments in different contexts such as industry, defense, and aerospace. Workers can be exposed by inhalation to these NPs, for instance, through welding fumes or aerosolized propellant combustion residues. Several clinical and epidemiological studies have reported that inhalation of AlO NPs could trigger aluminosis, inflammation in the lung parenchyma, respiratory symptoms such as cough or shortness of breath, and probably long-term pulmonary fibrosis.

Introduction: It is widely admitted that both total sleep deprivation (TSD) and extended task engagement (Time-On-Task, TOT) induce a cognitive fatigue state in healthy subjects. Even if EEG theta activity and adenosine both increase with cognitive fatigue, it remains unclear if these modifications are common mechanisms for both sustained attention and executive processes.
Methods: We performed a double-blind counter-balanced (placebo (PCBO) and caffeine (CAF) - 2×2.

Background: Consumption of platelets and coagulation factors during extracorporeal carbon dioxide removal (ECCO R) increases bleeding complications and associated mortality. Regional infusion of lactic acid enhances ECCO R by shifting the chemical equilibrium from bicarbonate to carbon dioxide. Our goal was to test if regional blood acidification during ECCO R inhibits platelet function and coagulation.
