Purpose: This study investigated the differences in the maturation rate of single versus grouped cumulus-oocyte complexes (COCs) culture methods for capacitation in vitro maturation (CAPA-IVM) in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
Methods: This study was performed at My Duc Phu Nhuan Hospital, Vietnam from October 1, 2020 to October 24, 2021. Women aged 18-37 years with a diagnosis of PCOS were recruited.

Method development in liquid chromatography is a crucial step in the optimization of analytical separations for various applications. However, it is often a challenging endeavour due to its time-consuming, resource intensive and costly nature, which is further hampered by its complexity requiring highly skilled and experienced scientists. This review presents an examination of the methods that are required for a completely automated method development procedure in liquid chromatography, aimed at taking the human out of the decision loop.

With the present paper, the Working Group on Cells, Tissues and Organs and other experts of the Superior Health Council of Belgium aimed to provide stakeholders in material of human origin with advice on critical aspects of serological and nucleic acid test (NAT) testing, to improve virological safety of cell- and tissue and organ donation. The current paper focusses on a number of preanalytical variables which can be critical for any medical biology examination: (1) sampling related variables (type of samples, collection of the samples, volume of the sample, choice of specific tubes, identification of tubes), (2) variables related to transport, storage and processing of blood samples (transport, centrifugation and haemolysis, storage before and after centrifugation, use of serum versus plasma), (3) variables related to dilution (haemodilution, pooling of samples), and (4) test dependent variables (available tests and validation). Depending on the type of donor (deceased donor (heart-beating or non-heart beating) versus living donor (allogeneic, related, autologous), and the type of donated human material (cells, tissue or organs) additional factors can play a role: pre- and post-mortem sampling, conditions of sampling (e.

Inspired by foundational studies in classical and quantum physics, and by information retrieval studies in quantum information theory, we prove that the notions of 'energy' and 'entropy' can be consistently introduced in human language and, more generally, in human culture. More explicitly, if energy is attributed to words according to their frequency of appearance in a text, then the ensuing energy levels are distributed non-classically, namely, they obey Bose-Einstein, rather than Maxwell-Boltzmann, statistics, as a consequence of the genuinely 'quantum indistinguishability' of the words that appear in the text. Secondly, the 'quantum entanglement' due to the way meaning is carried by a text reduces the (von Neumann) entropy of the words that appear in the text, a behaviour which cannot be explained within classical (thermodynamic or information) entropy.

Unlabelled: Little is known about type D personality in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The DS-14 questionnaire is the standard tool to assess this personality type, but it has not been properly validated in patients with OSA, nor has it been correlated with clinical features in these patients.
Purpose: To determine the internal consistency and test-retest reliability of the DS-14 questionnaire, as well as the prevalence of type D personality in the overall OSA sample and subgroups.

Sea spray has been suggested to enable the transfer of micro- and nanoplastics (MNPs) from the ocean to the atmosphere, but only a few studies support the role of sea spray aerosols (SSAs) as a source of airborne particles. We demonstrated that MNPs are aerosolized during wave action, via SSAs, under controlled laboratory conditions. We used a mini-Marine-Aerosol-Reference-Tank (miniMART), a device that mimics naturally occurring physical mechanisms producing SSAs, and assessed the aerosolization of fluorescent polystyrene beads (0.

Objectives: This study aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the content and process of decision-making about palliative sedation for existential suffering (PS-ES) as perceived by Belgian palliative care physicians.
Methods: This Belgian nationwide qualitative study follows a . We conducted semistructured interviews with 25 palliative care physicians working in 19 Belgian hospital-based palliative care units and 4 stand-alone hospices.

Objective: Real-time continuous glucose monitoring (RT-CGM) can improve metabolic control and quality of life (QoL), but long-term real-world data in children with type 1 diabetes (T1D) are scarce. Over a period of 24 months, we assessed the impact of RT-CGM reimbursement on glycemic control and QoL in children/adolescents with T1D treated with insulin pumps.
Research Design And Methods: We conducted a multicenter prospective observational study.

Background & Aims: Fatigue is highly prevalent among patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and only limited treatment options are available. Based on the hypothetical link between low serum tryptophan concentrations and fatigue, we determined the effect of 5-hydroxytryptophan supplementation on fatigue in patients with inactive IBD.
Methods: A multicenter randomized controlled trial was performed at 13 Belgian hospitals, including 166 patients with IBD in remission but experiencing fatigue, defined by a fatigue visual analog scale (fVAS) score of ≥5.

Background: Research is a key component of medical practice, with involvement of medical students crucial for the future of healthcare. A major limitation for medical students is the lack of exposure to research education and projects. The purpose of this study was to analyse the exposure of medical students worldwide to research education and opportunities and their satisfaction with research in their curriculum and compare results between regions.

However, the scale-up of the vaccine is likely to be hindered by the widespread social media misinformation. We therefore conducted a study to assess the COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among Zimbabweans.

Purpose: In vitro maturation (IVM) is an alternative to in vitro fertilization (IVF) for women at high risk of developing ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS). This study determined the effectiveness and safety of a freeze-only strategy versus fresh embryo transfer (ET) after IVM with a pre-maturation step (CAPA-IVM) in women with a high antral follicle count (AFC).
Methods: This randomized, controlled pilot study (NCT04297553) was conducted between March and November 2020.

Zimbabwe reported its first case of COVID-19 on 20 March 2020, and since then the number has increased to over 4000. To contain the spread of the causative SARS-CoV-2 and prepare the healthcare system, public health interventions, including lockdowns, were imposed on 30 March 2020. These resulted in disruptions in healthcare provision, and movement of people and supply chains.
