Article Synopsis
  • Alcohol abstinence is required for liver transplant candidates with alcohol-associated liver disease, but some may relapse before surgery.
  • A study analyzed patients who had positive alcohol levels on the day of their liver transplant and found that their long-term survival rates were similar to those of abstinent controls.
  • However, patients with alcohol in their system had higher relapse rates and more frequent cirrhosis-related complications post-transplant.

P-cadherin-induced decorin secretion is required for collagen fiber alignment and directional collective cell migration.

Directional collective cell migration (DCCM) is crucial for morphogenesis and cancer metastasis. P-cadherin (also known as CDH3), which is a cell-cell adhesion protein expressed in carcinoma and aggressive sarcoma cells and associated with poor prognosis, is a major DCCM regulator. However, it is unclear how P-cadherin-mediated mechanical coupling between migrating cells influences force transmission to the extracellular matrix (ECM).

Tensin 3 is a new partner of Dock5 that controls osteoclast podosome organization and activity.

Bone resorption by osteoclasts is mediated by a typical adhesion structure called the sealing zone or actin ring, whose architecture is based on a belt of podosomes. The molecular mechanisms driving podosome organization into superstructures remain poorly understood to date, in particular at the osteoclast podosome belt. We performed proteomic analyses in osteoclasts and found that the adaptor protein tensin 3 is a partner of Dock5, a Rac exchange factor necessary for podosome belt formation and bone resorption.

Background: Psychosocial work characteristics may predict cognitive functioning after retirement. However, little research has explored specific cognitive domains associated with psychosocial work environments. Our study tested whether exposure to job demands, job control and their combination during working life predicted post-retirement performance on eight cognitive tests.

Background: Meal lipids (LIP) and proteins (PRO) may influence the effect of insulin doses based on carbohydrate (CHO) counting in patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D). We developed a smartphone application for CHO, LIP, and PRO counting in daily food and assessed its usability in real-life conditions and potential usefulness.

Methods: Ten T1D patients used the android application for 1 week to collect their food intakes.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the use of a cadmium zinc telluride camera for measuring myocardial perfusion reserve (MPR) in patients with severe coronary artery disease, highlighting its diagnostic and prognostic benefits.* -
  • Researchers assessed MPR in 23 patients through dynamic SPECT imaging, comparing results from stress and rest conditions, and correlated these with coronary angiography findings.* -
  • Results showed a strong correlation between global MPR and the extent of arterial obstruction, indicating that both regional flow metrics were significantly tied to the severity of stenosis and fractional flow reserve measures.*

Diversity and adaptive evolution of Saccharomyces wine yeast: a review.

Saccharomyces cerevisiae and related species, the main workhorses of wine fermentation, have been exposed to stressful conditions for millennia, potentially resulting in adaptive differentiation. As a result, wine yeasts have recently attracted considerable interest for studying the evolutionary effects of domestication. The widespread use of whole-genome sequencing during the last decade has provided new insights into the biodiversity, population structure, phylogeography and evolutionary history of wine yeasts.

Although an increasing number of horizontal gene transfers have been reported in eukaryotes, experimental evidence for their adaptive value is lacking. Here, we report the recent transfer of a 158-kb genomic region between Torulaspora microellipsoides and Saccharomyces cerevisiae wine yeasts or closely related strains. This genomic region has undergone several rearrangements in S.

Developmental determinants in non-communicable chronic diseases and ageing.

Director of Population-Based Epidemiological Cohorts, INSERM-UVSQ UMS 011, Villejuif, France.

Prenatal and peri-natal events play a fundamental role in health, development of diseases and ageing (Developmental Origins of Health and Disease (DOHaD)). Research on the determinants of active and healthy ageing is a priority to: (i) inform strategies for reducing societal and individual costs of an ageing population and (ii) develop effective novel prevention strategies. It is important to compare the trajectories of respiratory diseases with those of other chronic diseases.

Coping profiles, perceived stress and health-related behaviors: a cluster analysis approach.

Health Promot Int

March 2015

Laboratory Epsylon (EA 4556), Department of Sport and Physical Education Sciences, Southern France Montpellier University, Montpellier, France.

Using cluster analytical procedure, this study aimed (i) to determine whether people could be differentiated on the basis of coping profiles (or unique combinations of coping strategies); and (ii) to examine the relationships between these profiles and perceived stress and health-related behaviors. A sample of 578 French students (345 females, 233 males; M(age)= 21.78, SD(age)= 2.
