Physical activity has been shown to improve various aspects of metabolic health and is frequently applied as an intervention in the management and prevention of overweight/obesity. Chrono-exercise can be studied in relation to time of day and timing in relation to a meal, which encompasses chronology and duration of the temporal interval, but the latter has received limited attention to date. This brief review and meta-analysis investigates whether the timing of a meal subsequent to acute exercise, in children and adolescents with and without overweight/obesity, moderates eating behaviour and appetite.

Background: We have recently shown that, during acute severe COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2 spike protein (S) induces a cascade of events resulting in T cell apoptosis. Indeed, by neutralizing the protease activity of its receptor, ACE2, S induces an increase in circulating Angiotensin II (AngII), resulting in monocytic release of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and programmed T cell death.

Tolerance to Factor VIII in the Era of Non-Factor Therapies: Immunological Perspectives and a Systematic Review of the Literature.

Persons with hemophilia A (PWHA) lack clotting factor VIII (FVIII) due to a genetic mutation in the F8 gene. The administration of FVIII concentrate leads to the development of neutralizing anti-FVIII antibodies (inhibitors) in about 30% of children with severe hemophilia A. The other 70% of children do not mount a detectable antibody response, suggesting that they may have developed tolerance towards FVIII.

The (re)emergence of aerosol delivery: Treatment of pulmonary diseases and its clinical challenges.

Aerosol delivery represents a rapid and non-invasive way to directly reach the lungs while escaping the hepatic first-pass effect. The development of pulmonary drugs for respiratory diseases such as cystic fibrosis, lung infections, pulmonary fibrosis or lung cancer requires an enhanced understanding of the relationships between the natural physiology of the respiratory system and the pathophysiology of these conditions. Intranasal delivery of extracellular vesicles: A promising new approach for treating neurological and respiratory disorders.

Background: Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are membrane vesicles secreted by all types of cells, including bacteria, animals, and plants. These vesicles contain proteins, nucleic acids, and lipids from their parent cells and can transfer these components between cells. EVs have attracted attention for their potential use in diagnosis and therapy due to their natural properties, such as low immunogenicity, high biocompatibility, and ability to cross the blood-brain barrier.

Objective: To report the outcomes of transoral C2 osteotomy (or partial odontoidectomy) and posterior fixation, regarding efficacy and safety, in patients with severe irreducible atlantoaxial dislocation (IAAD) following odontoid fracture.

Methods: Transoral C2 osteotomy, soft tissue resection, with or without facet joint release, followed by posterior fixation were performed on 3 patients (2012, 2016, 2023) who were suffering from severe IAAD after an odontoid fracture with spinal cord compression. Rationale And Objectives: The RANO-BM criteria, which employ a one-dimensional measurement of the largest diameter, are imperfect due to the fact that the lesion volume is neither isotropic nor homogeneous. Furthermore, this approach is inherently time-consuming. Consequently, in clinical practice, monitoring patients in clinical trials in compliance with the RANO-BM criteria is rarely achieved.

Balloon atrioseptostomy for transposition of the great arteries in Europe: characteristics and outcomes.

Introduction And Objectives: Balloon atrial septostomy (BAS) improves oxygenation in neonates with transposition of the great arteries (TGA) and restrictive foramen ovale. Currently, there is a global shortage of dedicated BAS catheters, while new unmarked catheters have recently become available at some European centers. This study aimed to characterize BAS outcomes using the currently available BAS catheters in Europe.

Statistical harmonization of versions of measures across studies using external data: self-rated health and self-rated memory.

Purpose: Harmonizing variables for constructs measured differently across studies is essential for comparing, combining, and generalizing results. We developed and fielded a brief survey to harmonize Likert and continuous versions of measures for two constructs, self-rated health and self-rated memory, for use in studies of French older adults.

Methods: We recruited 300 participants from a French memory clinic in 2023 to answer both the Likert and continuous versions of self-rated health and self-rated memory questions.

Methods: We report two unrelated patients with genetic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease with demyelinating peripheral neuropathy as initial presentation, with a comprehensive clinical, electrophysiological and neuropathological description.

Results: Both patients exhibited gait disturbance and paresthesia.

Burden of RSV infections among young children in primary care: a prospective cohort study in five European countries (2021-23).

Background: The majority of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infections in young children are managed in primary care, however, the disease burden in this setting remains poorly defined.

Methods: We did a prospective cohort study in primary care settings in Belgium, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, and the UK during the RSV seasons of 2020-21 (UK only; from Jan 1, 2021), 2021-22, and 2022-23. Children aged younger than 5 years presenting to their general practitioner or primary care paediatrician with symptoms of an acute respiratory tract infection were eligible for RSV testing.

COVID-19 has brought health protection to the top of the political agenda in many countries, at the cost of reduced freedoms, social relationships, and economic opportunities. This context may have led individuals to pay more attention to their health and to attach greater importance to it in life satisfaction. This paper examines the possibility of an increase in the correlation between life and health satisfaction after the onset of the pandemic using repeated cross-sectional data in France between 2016 and 2021 and an original jittering strategy to smooth the ordinal variables of life and health satisfaction in regression models of subjective well-being.
