Background: Reporting serious adverse events (SAEs) is crucial to reduce or avoid toxicities that can lead to major consequences for patient's health due to treatments tested in clinical trials. Its exhaustiveness is often inadequate, and we observe discrepancies between data published by pharmacovigilance organizations and clinical databases.
Objectives: While the process of reconciliation aims at reducing these differences, it remains a very time-consuming and imprecise task.

We present a methodology for establishing the existence of quadratic Lyapunov inequalities for a wide range of first-order methods used to solve convex optimization problems. In particular, we consider (i) classes of optimization problems of finite-sum form with (possibly strongly) convex and possibly smooth functional components, (ii) first-order methods that can be written as a linear system on state-space form in feedback interconnection with the subdifferentials of the functional components of the objective function, and (iii) quadratic Lyapunov inequalities that can be used to draw convergence conclusions. We present a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a quadratic Lyapunov inequality within a predefined class of Lyapunov inequalities, which amounts to solving a small-sized semidefinite program.

Background: Transcriptomics biomarkers have been widely used to predict mortality in patients with sepsis. However, the association between mRNA levels and outcomes shows substantial variability over the course of sepsis, limiting their predictive performance. We aimed to: (a) identify and validate an mRNA biomarker signature whose association with all-cause intensive care unit (ICU) mortality is consistent at several timepoints; and (b) evaluate how this mRNA signature could be used in association with lactate levels for predictive and prognostic enrichment in sepsis.

The application of DNA data on a worldwide sampling has revolutionized the infrageneric classification of the highly diverse ectomycorrhizal genus . Based on collections made in New Zealand, East Asia and North America, this study describes a new subgenus , the ninth subgenus of . Even though BLASTn of the ITS sequences suggested affinities with species of subgenera and the phylogenetic analysis based on a five-locus DNA dataset placed the target samples in an independent major clade that is taxonomically equivalent to subgenus.

We investigate magnesium-iron pyroborate MgFeBO as a potential cathode material for rechargeable magnesium-ion batteries. Synchrotron powder X-ray diffraction and Mössbauer spectroscopy confirm its successful synthesis and iron stabilization in the high-spin Fe(II) state. Initial electrochemical testing against a lithium metal anode yields a first charge capacity near the theoretical value (147.

This study introduces a simple approach to dynamically control multilevel optical ellipticity in ferrimagnetic GdFeCo alloys by switching the spin orientation through Joule heating induced by electrical current, with the assistance of a low magnetic field of 3.5 mT. It is demonstrated that selecting specific compositions of Gd (FeCo) alloys, with magnetic compensation temperatures near or above room temperature, allows for significant manipulation of the circular dichroism (CD) effect.

Introduction: Recent research revealed that Tau plays critical roles in various neuronal functions. We previously demonstrated that destabilization and nuclear delocalization of Tau alter the expression of glutamatergic genes, mediating early neuronal damage.
Methods: In this study, we discovered that changes in Tau availability are linked to global alterations in gene expression that affect multiple neuronal pathways.

Background: Extracorporeal life support (ECLS) provides organ perfusion in refractory cardiac arrest but during the initiation of ECLS mean arterial pressure (MAP) and carotid flow may be suboptimal due to hypotension and/or insufficient flow. We hypothesized that cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in addition to ECLS may increase carotid flow and MAP compared to ECLS alone.
Methods: Observational pilot study comparing hemodynamic parameters before and after CPR cessation in pigs supported by ECLS for experimental refractory cardiac arrest.

Background: Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a common aetiological agent that causes respiratory infections, especially among infants. Identifying circulating RSV genotypes is an essential strategy for understanding the spread of the virus in a certain area. Sequencing the variable regions of the attachment glycoprotein (G) gene of RSV is a quick and direct approach for identifying the genotypes.

Tidal interactions play a key role in the dynamics and evolution of icy worlds. The intense tectonic activity of Europa and the eruption activity on Enceladus are clear examples of the manifestation of tidal deformation and associated dissipation. While tidal heating has long been recognized as a major driver in the activity of these icy worlds, the mechanism controlling how tidal forces deform the different internal layers and produce heat by tidal friction still remains poorly constrained.

The relationship between income and subjective well-being (SWB) has intrigued scholars for decades. Richard Easterlin's groundbreaking research in the 1970s revealed a paradox: while higher individual incomes within countries are associated with greater happiness, this trend does not hold across countries. This paradox highlights the significance of relative income over absolute income.

Background & Aims: Biliary abnormalities in autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) and interface hepatitis in primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) occur frequently, and misinterpretation may lead to therapeutic mistakes with a negative impact on patients. This study investigates the use of a deep learning (DL)-based pipeline for the diagnosis of AIH and PBC to aid differential diagnosis.

Background: Malaria infections in pregnancy are a major cause of maternal morbidity and neonatal mortality in sub-Saharan Africa. A high proportion of these infections are submicroscopic, which are usually asymptomatic and therefore untreated during pregnancy. Intermittent preventive treatment with sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine (IPTp-SP) aims to prevent and treat all potential infections whether submicroscopic or not.

Osteoporosis and osteopenia are frequently found in patients undergoing shoulder surgery, especially rotator cuff repair, and it is anticipated that this link will become more common as more elderly people have operations on their shoulders. For orthopedic surgical candidates who are at high risk, preoperative screening may identify those who might benefit from early intervention and prevent any associated adverse events. The major complications include repair failure and revision surgery.

Emerging from the encounters of French survivors with the men of the Anglo-World, this ideal encouraged compassionate, paternalist authority as a solution to the ongoing conflict of paternal despotism and disorderly fraternal freedom in France. The community of sentiment imagined in shipwreck testimonies was gendered and racialized, cultivating white compassion across colonial empires.

Arginase plays a crucial role in the urea cycle; it also has immunosuppressive and pro-tumor effects. The present study aimed to assess the effects of arginase inhibition by thymoquinone (2-Isopropyl-5-methyl-1,4-benzoquinone), an active compound of Nigella sativa, on cell death in the MDA-MB-231 triple-negative breast tumor cell line. Cell viability assays, Western blot analysis, and flow cytometry analysis were used to characterize oxidative stress and cell death.

Background: Observational studies have shown that selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors are associated with an increased risk of bone fractures, but the association can be confounded by indication and other sources of systematic bias that can be minimised in randomised controlled trials (RCTs).
Aim: Our aim was to report the rate, site, context, and predictors of fractures after stroke, and whether the fractures modified the effect of fluoxetine on modified Rankin score (mRS) at six months in an individual patient data meta-analysis of 5907 patients enrolled in three RCTs of fluoxetine (20mg for six months) for stroke recovery.
Methods: We classified fractures by treatment allocation, site (and thus likelihood of osteoporosis) and context, then performed multivariable analyses to explore independent predictors of fractures.

Advancements in surgical stapling devices play a crucial role in improving outcomes for bariatric procedures. This study evaluates the performance and safety of a new endoscopic stapler (EnDrive® Beluga) regarding perioperative results across multiple bariatric surgery types. A retrospective analysis was conducted on 112 patients who underwent bariatric procedures using the Beluga stapler at two centers in the United Arab Emirates and Kenya over a 6-month period (June-December 2023).
