Antibody-mediated rejection (AMR) has been recognized as a significant cause of acute and chronic lung allograft dysfunction after lung transplantation. Some treatments, eculizumab, an anti-complement (C)5 component monoclonal antibody (Mab), seem to have a promising effect in the management of some patients with AMR. We present two patients with acute AMR after lung transplantation who received the anti-C5 Mab therapy.

Background: Angioedema (AE) due to acquired C1-inhibitor deficiency (AAE-C1-INH) is a rare disease associating recurrent edema of mucosa and skin. Several underlying diseases have been reported, mainly lymphoproliferative diseases and monoclonal gammopathy. However, 15 to 20% of patients never exhibit such a hematological condition.

Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) is one of the most common cancers in adolescents and young adults (AYA). Paediatric and adult therapeutic strategies diverge while sharing the common objective: maintaining optimal efficacy with less long-term toxicity. However, few studies have compared the outcome of AYA treated according to one or the other approaches.

Background: In phase 2 trials in people with cystic fibrosis aged 18 years and older, vanzacaftor-tezacaftor-deutivacaftor has been shown to be a safe and effective, once-daily cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) modulator. Restoring normal CFTR function early in life has the potential to prevent manifestations of cystic fibrosis. We aimed to evaluate the safety, tolerability, efficacy, and pharmacokinetics of vanzacaftor-tezacaftor-deutivacaftor in children with cystic fibrosis aged 6-11 years.

The encoding of episodic memories depends on segmentation; memory performance improves when segmentation is available and performance is impaired when segmentation is absent. Indeed, for episodic memories to be created, the encoding of information into long-term memory requires the experience of event boundaries (i.e.

Age-Based Stereotype Threat (ABST) adversely affects older adults' memory performance by inducing anxiety and interfering thoughts related to negative stereotypes about aging and memory decline. While well-documented in laboratory settings, the relevance of ABST in real-life clinical contexts remains underexplored. This narrative review examines the effects of ABST and its implications for cognitive aging, emphasizing the importance of addressing ABST in clinical settings.

Several groundwater quality investigations have been conducted in coastal regions that are commonly exposed to multiple anthropogenic stressors. Nonetheless, such studies remain challenging because they require focused-diagnostic approaches for a comprehensive understanding of groundwater contamination. Therefore, this study integrates a multi-tracer approach to acquire comprehensive information allowing for an improved understanding of the origins of groundwater contamination, the relative contribution of contaminants, and their biogeochemical cycling within a coastal groundwater system.

Since 2011, massive strandings of Sargassum (brown alga) have significantly affected Caribbean islands causing major health, environmental and economic problems. Amongst them, the degradation of algae releases corrosive gases, hydrogen sulphide (HS) and ammonia (NH) which causes an accelerated corrosion of the metallic structures of these coastal areas. The aim of this study was to quantify the impact of Sargassum strandings on the corrosion of three types of steels (DC01 carbon steel, 304L and 316L stainless steels) immersed for up to 120 days at various sites in Martinique which were gradually impacted by Sargassum.

Curcumin (CUR) is a natural compound recognized for stimulating the expression of antioxidant genes. This characteristic has been used to promote animal health and production in aquaculture settings. We hypothesized that supplementing embryos of Crassostrea gigas oysters with CUR would improve their antioxidant capacity, development, and resilience to stress.

Abdominal hernia repair is a common surgical procedure, involving in most cases the use of textile meshes providing a mechanical barrier to consolidate the damaged surrounding tissues and prevent the resurgence of the hernia. However, in more than half cases postoperative complications such as adhesions and infections occur at the surface of the mesh, leading to chronic pain for the patient and requiring the removal of the implant. One of the most promising strategies to reduce the risk of postoperative adhesions and infections is to add a physical barrier between the mesh and the abdominal walls.

The effect of dehulling and cooking on the in vitro digestibility, and phenolic profiles was evaluated for four Dutch sorghum varieties (HD7 and HD19, Sorghum bicolor; and HD100 and HD101 Sorghum nigricans) bred in the Netherlands. Protein content ranged from 9 to 14 % and grains with black pericarp were more resistant to dehulling. Essential amino acids composition analysis showed that the lysine chemical score (∼0.

This case report describes a patient with a medical history of schizophrenia, found in a coma with hyperthermia, likely due to classic heatstroke. The white blood cells observed on the blood smear showed cytological abnormalities characterized by multilobed nuclei, which could be early signs of cell death. The evolution into multiorgan failure led rapidly to death.

Senescence is a tumor suppressor mechanism triggered by oncogene expression and chemotherapy treatment. It orchestrates a definitive cessation of cell proliferation through the activation of the p53-p21 and p16-Rb pathways, coupled with the compaction of proliferative genes within heterochromatin regions. Some cancer cells have the ability to elude this proliferative arrest but the signaling pathways involved in circumventing senescence remain to be characterized.

Down syndrome (DS) or trisomy 21 (T21) is present in a significant number of children and adults around the world and is associated with cognitive and medical challenges. Through research, the T21 Research Society (T21RS), established in 2014, unites a worldwide community dedicated to understanding the impact of T21 on biological systems and improving the quality of life of people with DS across the lifespan. T21RS hosts an international conference every two years to support collaboration, dissemination, and information sharing for this goal.

Grouping of chemicals has been proposed as a strategy to speed up the screening and identification of potential substances of concern among the broad chemical universe under REACH. Such grouping is usually based on shared structural features and should only be used for the prioritization objectives. However, additional considerations (as well as structural similarity) are needed, e.

Retroperitoneal robotic-assisted laparoscopic pyeloplasty (R-RALP) is the commonest urologic procedure performed in children, entailing retroperitoneal CO2 insufflation and lateral decubitus, whose effects on cardiopulmonary variables are poorly known. We, therefore, studied hemodynamic and respiratory changes due to CO2 insufflation and lateral decubitus in children undergoing R-RALP and their effects on regional tissue oxygenation. Between 1/2021 and 7/2024, children affected by ureteropelvic joint obstruction (UPJO) underwent a pyeloplasty by R-RALP at Necker Enfants Malades Hospital (Paris, France), using a standardized surgical technique and a lung-protecting anesthetic protocol aimed to prevent hypercarbia.

Obesity is a major public health issue worldwide. Despite various approaches to weight loss, the most effective technique for reducing obesity, as well as diabetes and associated diseases, is bariatric surgery. Increasingly, young women without children are undergoing bariatric surgery, vertical sleeve gastrectomy (VSG) being the most common procedure nowadays.
