Algebraic Depletion Interactions in Two-Temperature Mixtures.

Phys Rev Lett

December 2024

Université de Mons, Laboratoire Interfaces & Fluides Complexes, 20 Place du Parc, B-7000 Mons, Belgium.

The phase separation that occurs in two-temperature mixtures, which are driven out of equilibrium at the local scale, has been thoroughly characterized, but much less is known about the depletion interactions that drive it. Using numerical simulations in dimension 2, we show that the depletion interactions extend beyond two particle diameters in dilute systems, as expected at equilibrium, and decay algebraically with an exponent -4. Solving for the N-particle distribution function in the stationary state, perturbatively in the interaction potential, we show that algebraic correlations with an exponent -2d arise from triplets of particles at different temperatures in spatial dimension d.

Z boson events at the Large Hadron Collider can be selected with high purity and are sensitive to a diverse range of QCD phenomena. As a result, these events are often used to probe the nature of the strong force, improve Monte Carlo event generators, and search for deviations from standard model predictions. All previous measurements of Z boson production characterize the event properties using a small number of observables and present the results as differential cross sections in predetermined bins.

A comprehensive study of the angular distributions in the bottom-baryon decays Λ_{b}^{0}→Λ_{c}^{+}h^{-}(h=π,K), followed by Λ_{c}^{+}→Λh^{+} with Λ→pπ^{-} or Λ_{c}^{+}→pK_{S}^{0} decays, is performed using a data sample of proton-proton collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9  fb^{-1} collected by the LHCb experiment at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV. The decay parameters and the associated charge-parity (CP) asymmetries are measured, with no significant CP violation observed. For the first time, the Λ_{b}^{0}→Λ_{c}^{+}h^{-} decay parameters are measured.

January 2025

Advanced Cancer Translational Research Institute, Showa University, 1-5-8 Hatanodai, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, 142-8555, Japan.

Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) are an emerging class of anticancer therapy that combines the specificity and long circulation half-life of monoclonal antibodies with the cytotoxic potency of the payload connected through a chemical linker. The optimal management of toxicities is crucial for improving quality of life in patients undergoing ADCs and for avoiding improper dose reductions or discontinuations. This article focuses on the characteristics and management of nausea and vomiting (NV) induced by three ADCs: trastuzumab deruxtecan (T-DXd), sacituzumab govitecan (SG), and datopotamab deruxtecan (Dato-DXd).

The COVID-19 pandemic instigated changes in almost all aspects of youth's life. While numerous studies have been implemented to understand how these changes are related to youth's development, few concerned large representative samples. This study introduces the methodology and initial results of the Quebec (Canada) Resilience Project (QRP), a representative longitudinal study.

Introduction: Patients with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis (AD), a body surface area (BSA) of ≤ 40%, and an itch numerical rating scale (NRS) score of ≥ 7 ("BARI itch dominant") have been characterized as an important group to consider for the oral janus kinase (JAK) 1/2 inhibitor baricitinib (BARI). Herein we aim to evaluate quality of life (QoL) and functioning outcomes in adult patients with BSA ≤ 40% and itch NRS ≥ 7 at baseline (BL) who received BARI 4 mg in the topical corticosteroid (TCS) combination trial BREEZE-AD7.

Materials: BREEZE-AD7 was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group outpatient study involving adult patients with moderate-to-severe AD who received once-daily placebo or 2-mg or 4-mg BARI in combination with TCS for 16 weeks.

Background: Hepatitis B is a liver infection caused by HBV. Infected individuals who fail to control the viral infection develop chronic hepatitis B and are at risk of developing life-threatening liver diseases, such as cirrhosis or liver cancer. Dendritic cells (DCs) play important roles in the immune response against HBV but are functionally impaired in patients with chronic hepatitis B.

Glycolysis is a conserved metabolic pathway that converts glucose into pyruvate in the cytosol, producing ATP and NADH. In and several other apicomplexan parasites, some glycolytic enzymes have isoforms located in their plastid (called the apicoplast). In this organelle, glycolytic intermediates like glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate (GAP) and dihydroxyacetone phosphate (DHAP) are imported from the cytosol and further metabolized, providing ATP, reducing power, and precursors for anabolic pathways such as isoprenoid synthesis.

Univ Rennes, CNRS, IPR (Institut de Physique de Rennes) - UMR 6251, F-35000 Rennes, France.

An accurate potential energy model, explicitly designed for studying scattering and treating the spin-orbit and nonadiabatic couplings on an equal footing, is proposed for the S + Ar system. The model is based on the Effective Relativistic Coupling by Asymptotic Representation (ERCAR) approach, building the geometry dependence of the spin-orbit interaction a diabatisation scheme. The resulting full diabatic model is used in close-coupling calculations to compute inelastic scattering cross sections for de-excitation from the S(D) fine structure level into the P multiplet.

The theory of similitudes provides simple laws by which the response of one system (usually of small size) can be used to predict the response of another system (usually larger). This paper establishes the exact conditions and laws of similitude for the vibrations and acoustic radiation of a panel immersed in a heavy fluid and excited by a turbulent boundary layer. Previous work on vibroacoustic similitude had not considered the problem of a panel radiating in heavy fluid, for which the radiation impedance of the structure must be scaled.
