Crossing the streams: Improving data quality and integration across the One Health genomics continuum with data standards and implementation strategies.

The Canadian Genomics Research and Development Initiative for Antimicrobial Resistance (GRDI-AMR) uses a genomics-based approach to understand how health care, food production and the environment contribute to the development of antimicrobial resistance. Integrating genomics contextual data streams across the One Health continuum is challenging because of the diversity in data scope, content and structure. To better enable data harmonization for analyses, a contextual data standard was developed.

Suspected heparin-induced thrombocytopaenia in pulmonary thromboendarterectomy: retrospective cohort.

Objectives: Heparin is given for anticoagulation during and after pulmonary thromboendarterectomy for chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension. Our objective was to add to the limited data available on the incidence, management, and outcomes of suspected heparin-induced thrombocytopaenia after pulmonary thromboendarterectomy for chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension.

Methods: This retrospective single-centre study included consecutive patients with suspected heparin-induced thrombocytopaenia after pulmonary thromboendarterectomy done in 2005-2018.

Towards Improved Peptidic α-Ketoamide Inhibitors of the Plasmodial Subtilisin-Like SUB1: Exploration of N-Terminal Extensions and Cyclic Constraints.

After more than 15 years of decline, the Malaria epidemy has increased again since 2017, reinforcing the need to identify drug candidates active on new targets involved in at least two biological stages of the Plasmodium life cycle. The SUB1 protease, which is essential for parasite egress in both hepatic and blood stages, would meet these criteria. We previously reported the structure-activity relationship analysis of α-ketoamide-containing inhibitors encompassing positions P4-P2'.

Zirconium(IV)-Catalysed Hydrosilylation of Organic Carbonates and Polycarbonates Household Wastes into Alcohol Derivatives.

The Schwartz's reagent Cp2Zr(H)Cl is a well known stoichiometric reagent for the reduction of unsaturated organic molecules but it has rarely been used in catalytic transformations. Herein, we describe the reduction of a variety of organic carbonates using the catalyst Cp2Zr(H)Cl in combination with Me(MeO)2SiH (DMMS) as reductant. This method was further applied to the reductive depolymerization of some polycarbonate materials and yielded silylated alcohols and diols in mild conditions.

Profile and methodology of ancillary protective measures employed during percutaneous renal cryoablation in a single high-volume centre.

Objectives: To evaluate the at-risk organs that require protection during percutaneous cryoablation (PCA) of renal tumours and the correlation with patient and target lesion characteristics, type of protective measure used and postoperative outcomes.

Materials And Methods: Single-centre retrospective review of patients with renal tumours who underwent PCA between 2008 and 2020. Final analysis included 374 tumours.

Visible-Light-Induced Insertion of Siloxycarbene into Amide N-H Bonds: Synthesis of Carbinolamides from Acylsilanes and Amides.

The insertion of carbene into secondary amide N-H bonds remains underexplored in organic synthesis. In this work, we discovered the visible-light-induced insertion of siloxycarbene into amide N-H bonds. This metal-free, facile reaction proceeds with atom economy under mild conditions with a broad range of secondary N-H amides, including benzanilide, acetanilide, oxindole, isatin, quinolinone, and maleimide, affording stable - and -acetals in excellent isolated yields.

Acute leukemia in children: evaluating the necessity of routine biochemical analysis of cerebrospinal fluid.

Unlabelled: Biochemical analyses of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) are routinely performed at diagnosis in many pediatric oncology and hematology centers when acute leukemia is diagnosed. However, the clinical relevance of these analyses remains unclear. We conducted a retrospective analysis of biochemical CSF data from children diagnosed with acute leukemia at two French hospitals between 2016 and 2023 assessing the results in relation to the presence or absence of leukemic neuromeningeal involvement and the correlation between cytological and biochemical analyses.

Advanced paranasal sinuses osteomas: a retrospective multicentric analysis on surgical management outcomes and intra- and postsurgical complications.

Background: This study examines the management and outcomes of large paranasal sinus osteomas (PSO), especially those abutting or encasing critical structures of the skull base and orbit.

Methodology: A multicentric retrospective analysis was conducted between June 2007 and September 2023. The study included surgically treated (regardless the type of approach chosen) PSO, exceeding 3 cm in diameter and/or located in critical anatomical areas.

First-in-Human clinical trial of a small molecule EBNA1 inhibitor, VK-2019, in patients with Epstein-Barr positive nasopharyngeal cancer, with pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies.

Purpose: A first-in-human phase one study was conducted in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) patients to assess the safety and tolerability of VK-2019, a small molecule selective inhibitor of Epstein-Barr virus Nuclear Antigen 1 (EBNA1).

Patients And Methods: Pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies, including circulating tumor EBV DNA plasma levels, were performed. Twenty-three patients received VK-2019 orally once daily at doses ranging from 60 to 1800 mg using an accelerated titration design, with cohort expansion at 1800 mg.

The impact of radiofrequency thermocoagulation on brain connectivity in drug-resistant epilepsy: Insights from stereo-electroencephalography and cortico-cortical evoked potentials.

Objective: To investigate whether local lesions created by stereo-electroencephalography (SEEG)-guided radiofrequency thermocoagulation (RFTC) affect distant brain connectivity and excitability in patients with focal, drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE).

Methods: Ten patients with focal DRE underwent SEEG implantation and subsequently 1 Hz bipolar repetitive electrical stimulation (RES) for 30 s before and after RFTC. Root mean square (RMS) of cortico-cortical evoked potentials (CCEPs) was calculated for 15 ms to 300 ms post-stimulation with baseline correction.

Great efforts have been made in the last few decades to realize electronic devices based on organic molecules. A possible approach in this field is to exploit the chirality of organic molecules for the development of spintronic devices, an applicative way to implement the chiral-induced spin selectivity (CISS) effect. In this work we exploit enantiopure tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) derivatives as chiral inducers at the nanoscale.

Anesthetic Management of a Patient With Arnold Chiari Malformation and Syringomyelia During Laparoscopic Surgery With Neurologic Monitoring: A Case Report.

We describe a patient with severe Arnold Chiari Malformation and syringomyelia who underwent gynecological laparoscopy in an emergency context; no brain imaging was available. We here report the successful use of optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) and middle cerebral artery (MCA) velocity measurements as surrogate monitoring for cerebral blood flow and intracranial pressure, respectively. MCA velocity was low when assessed after peritoneal insufflation and ONSD increased to 6.

Predictive Factors of a Dominant Superficial Venous Drainage System in DIEP Flap Surgery With Preoperative Computed Tomography Angiography.

Background: Venous congestion due to superficial venous system dominance (SVD) in deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flap surgery occurs in approximately 2% of cases, with attendant sequelae and increased cost to healthcare systems. This study aimed to describe the predictive factors for SVD in DIEP flap breast reconstruction based on preoperative computed tomography angiography (CTA) findings.

Methods: All women who required takebacks for additional venous anastomosis to the cephalic vein because of SVD after DIEP flap breast reconstruction between 2015 and 2022 were included.

Feasibility and Acceptability of a Virtual "Dementia Awareness for Caregivers" Course in Brazil and India.

Objective: To establish whether a virtual dementia awareness course is feasible for caregivers of people with dementia in Brazil and India.

Methods: A pre/posttest single group, multisite feasibility study, mixed methods exploratory design was applied. Primary caregivers of people with dementia in Brazil and India took a 3 to 4-hour course adapted for online delivery, with 10 to 15 caregivers.
