We investigate the contribution of isometric rate of torque development (RTD) and maximal voluntary torque (MVT) to the dynamic force production capacities of knee extensors obtained from the torque-velocity (TV) relationship, that is, the theoretical maximal velocity (V), torque (T), and maximal power (P). Single-leg knee extensors were tested in 64 young adults (31 females). RTD and root mean square (RMS) of electromyographic signals from the knee extensors were recorded during isometric and incremental load dynamic (nonisokinetic) contractions.

Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) was diagnosed in a 65-year-old Afro-Caribbean patient presenting initially with hearing loss and a pseudo-tumoral 6cm lung mass. Lung biopsy findings favored the diagnosis of vasculitis. Rapid disease progression was noted with near-complete deafness and lack of speech, severe renal failure necessitating dialysis, and persisting disturbance of consciousness following tonic-clonic seizures due to posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES).

Metagenomic driven isolation of poorly culturable species in food.

August 2025

Université Paris-Saclay, INRAE, AgroParisTech, Micalis Institute, 78350, Jouy-en-Josas, France. Electronic address:

Although isolating microorganisms from food microbiota may appear less challenging than from the gut or environmental sources, recovering all representative species from food remains a difficult task. Here, we showed by metagenomic analysis that several abundant species had escaped isolation in a previous study of ten cheeses, including several previously uncharacterized species. This highlights the ongoing challenge of achieving a comprehensive recovery of microbes from food.

The cell adhesion protein CD56 has been identified as a potential therapeutic target in several solid tumors and hematological malignancies. Recently, we developed a CD56-directed antibody-drug conjugate (ADC), called Adcitmer and demonstrated its antitumor properties in preclinical models of the rare and aggressive skin cancer Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC).The present study aims to further optimize Adcitmer to overcome the therapeutic limitations observed with previously evaluated CD56-targeting ADCs, which were partially related to toxic effects on leukocytes.

Controlling Aedes mosquitoes using densovirus-based biolarvicides: Current status and prospects.

J Invertebr Pathol

March 2025

Maladies Infectieuses et Vecteurs, Ecologie, Génétique, Evolution et Contrôle (MIVEGEC), Montpellier University, IRD, CNRS, Montpellier, France. Electronic address:

Aedes albopictus and Aedes aegypti are the main vectors of emerging arboviruses, such as dengue, chikungunya and Zika viruses. Entomopathogenic viruses, such as densoviruses, might represent more environmentally friendly control methods. Densoviruses are single-stranded DNA viruses belonging to the Parvoviridae family and three species are known to infect mosquitoes: Protoambidensovirus dipteran, Brevihamaparvovirus dipteran 1, and Brevihamaparvovirus dipteran 2.

The Estuary of Huelva in southwestern Spain is severely impacted by acid mine drainage (AMD), primarily due to extensive mining activities in the Iberian Pyrite Belt (IPB), and to a lesser extent by industrial sources. The AMD has led to significant contamination of the Odiel and Tinto rivers, which carry high loads of metals into the estuary. In May 2017, an accidental spill occurred at La Zarza mine, releasing approximately 270,000 m of acidic water contained in a pit lake.

Departamento de Farmacología, Farmacia y Tecnología Farmacéutica, I+D Farma (GI-1645), Facultad de Farmacia, Instituto de Materiales (iMATUS) and Health Research Institute of Santiago de Compostela (IDIS), Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, Spain. Electronic address:

Glioblastoma (GB) is a malignant brain tumor with low survival rates and a high recurrence ratio due to limited therapeutic arsenal. The repurposed drug disulfiram (DSF), approved for alcoholism treatment, shows promising anticancer and antimicrobial activity, but its poor biopharmaceutical profile hinders its clinical use. This work aimed to develop DSF-loaded silk fibroin (SF) electrospun fibers for controlled release in the postsurgical resection cavity.

Background: There is a need to better understand barriers to recruitment and participation in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating postpartum thromboprophylaxis, as previous trials had low recruitment and were not feasible. In a qualitative interview study of the pilot PARTUM trial (a feasibility trial of low-dose aspirin versus placebo for six weeks postpartum), we explored the facilitators and barriers to trial involvement.

Methods: Patients eligible for the pilot PARTUM trial, including those who declined joining the trial, were invited to participate in a qualitative study.

Body odors play an important role in nonverbal communication, and particularly in one's attractiveness. However, their central processing remains underexplored, especially as a function of gender. This study aims at identifying the neural networks involved in the processing of two allegedly sex-specific human body odor compounds (3-hydroxy-3-methylhexanoic acid, HMHA, and 3-methyl-3-sulfanylhexan-1-ol, MSH).

Cardiology Department, CHU Clermont-Ferrand, F-63000 Clermont-Ferrand, France; Université Clermont Auvergne, CHU Clermont-Ferrand, CNRS, SIGMA Clermont, Institut Pascal, F-63000 Clermont-Ferrand, France.

Background: Atrial resetting can be used for discerning the anterograde pathway in slow/fast atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia (AVNRT).

Objectives: Assess the prevalence of right inferior extension (RIE) and left extension (LE) and the potential impact on the ablation approach.

Methods: During the electrophysiological study of patients with slow/fast AVNRT, a decremental supraventricular extrastimulus was delivered within the vulnerability window of the tachycardia cycle at two distinct sites: the infero-paraseptal area of the Koch triangle (near the RIE) and the proximal few centimeters of the coronary sinus (near the LE).
