The epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is a dynamic transdifferentiation of epithelial cells into mesenchymal cells. EMT programs exhibit great diversity, based primarily on the distinct impact of molecular activities of the EMT transcription factors. Using a panel of cancer cell lines and a series of 71 triple-negative primary breast tumors, we report that the EMT transcription factor ZEB1 modulates site-specific chemical modifications of ribosomal RNA (rRNA).

Robust undulatory locomotion through neuromechanical adjustments in a dissipative medium.

Dissipative environments are ubiquitous in nature, from microscopic swimmers in low-Reynolds-number fluids to macroscopic animals in frictional media. In this study, we consider a mathematical model of a slender elastic locomotor with an internal rhythmic neural pattern generator to examine various undulatory locomotion such as swimming and crawling behaviours. By using local mechanical load as mechanosensory feedback, we have found that undulatory locomotion robustly emerges in different rheological media.

To forecast how fast populations can adapt to climate change, it is essential to determine the evolutionary potential of different life-cycle stages under selection. In birds, timing of gonadal development and moult are primarily regulated by photoperiod, while laying date is highly phenotypically plastic to temperature. We tested whether geographic variation in phenology of these life-cycle events between populations of great tits () has a genetic basis, indicating that contemporary genetic adaptation is possible.

Sexual conflict can arise because males and females, while sharing most of their genome, can have different phenotypic optima. Sexually dimorphic gene expression may help reduce conflict, but the expression of many genes may remain sub-optimal owing to unresolved tensions between the sexes. The direct electrochemical carboxylation of aryl, benzyl and alkyl halides by CO is described using a magnesium anode and a nickel foam cathode in an undivided cell. The process employs a sacrificial anode and does not require the additional use of a transition metal catalyst or demanding conditions, as the reactions are carried out under galvanostatic mode, at -10 °C and with commercial DMF. Under these operationally simple conditions, an important range of carboxylic acids are affordable.

Methods: Sixteen patients with mono-segmental disc degeneration (L4-L5 or L5-S1) who underwent posterior lumbar spine fixation with intervertebral distraction of 2 consecutive vertebrae using monoaxial transpedicular screws and lyophilized allograft to achieve segmental fusion, and who had a follow-up period of at least 2 years, were included in this study. Tarlatamab is a bispecific T-cell engager immunotherapy targeting delta-like ligand 3 (DLL3) and the cluster of differentiation 3 (CD3) molecule. In the phase 2 DeLLphi-301 trial of tarlatamab for patients with previously treated small cell lung cancer, tarlatamab 10 mg every 2 weeks achieved durable responses and encouraging survival outcomes. Analyses of updated safety data from the DeLLphi-301 trial demonstrated that the most common treatment-emergent adverse events were cytokine release syndrome (53%), pyrexia (38%), decreased appetite (36%), dysgeusia (32%), and an emia (30%).
