Exploring the lived experiences of parents living with cystic fibrosis: A qualitative study.

Because of the lengthening of their life-expectancy, more people with cystic fibrosis (CF) now pursue parenthood. To explore the experience of parenting while having CF, 18 French parents with CF were interviewed (including 12 mothers and 9 participants with a lung transplant). A thematic analysis of the interview transcripts was conducted.

Steroids are organic compounds found in all forms of biological life. Besides their structural roles in cell membranes, steroids act as signalling molecules in various physiological processes and are used to treat inflammatory conditions. It has been hypothesised that in addition to their well-characterised genomic and non-genomic pathways, steroids exert their biological or pharmacological activities an indirect, nonreceptor-mediated membrane mechanism caused by steroid-induced changes to the physicochemical properties of cell membranes.

Here, we used additional datasets, an expanded set of statistical models, and interrogation of lipoprotein metabolism via nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)-based lipoprotein subfractions to refine a previously discovered GxE modifying the relationship between physical activity (PA) and HDL-cholesterol (HDL-C).

Epicardial Adipose Tissue from Computed Tomography: a Missing Link in Premature Coronary Artery Disease?

Purpose: Epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) could contribute to the specific atherosclerosis profile observed in premature coronary artery disease (pCAD) characterized by accelerated plaque burden (calcified and non-calcified), high risk plaque features (HRP) and ischemic recurrence. Our aims were to describe EAT volume and density in pCAD compared to asymptomatic individuals matched on CV risk factors and to study their relationship with coronary plaque severity extension and vulnerability.

Materials And Methods: 208 patients who underwent coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) were analyzed.

Genomic Prediction of Individual Inbreeding Levels for the Management of Genetic Diversity in Populations With Small Effective Size.

In populations of small effective size (N), such as those in conservation programmes, companion animals or livestock species, inbreeding control is essential. Homozygosity-by-descent (HBD) segments provide relevant information in that context, as they allow accurate estimation of the inbreeding coefficient, provide locus-specific information and their length is informative about the "age" of inbreeding. Our objective was to evaluate tools for predicting HBD in future offspring based on parental genotypes, a problem equivalent to identifying segments identical-by-descent (IBD) among the four parental chromosomes.

Diagnostic accuracy of qualitative gastric ultrasound assessment for detecting high gastric fluid volume in children: a prospective randomised study.

Introduction: The diagnostic accuracy of gastric ultrasound in children has not been assessed thoroughly. We aimed to determine the sensitivity and specificity in children of a qualitative ultrasound examination of the gastric antrum in the supine 45° semi-recumbent position and a clinical algorithm for detecting a gastric fluid volume > 1.25 ml.

Vertical Quantum Confinement in Bulk MoS.

We experimentally observe quantum confinement states in bulk MoS by using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES). The band structure at the Γ̅ point reveals quantum well states (QWSs) linked to vertical quantum confinement of the electrons, confirmed by the absence of dispersion in and a strong intensity modulation with the photon energy. Notably, the binding energy dependence of the QWSs versus does not follow the quadratic dependence of a two-dimensional electron gas.

Tropical Indian Ocean drives Hadley circulation change in a warming climate.

The weakening and poleward expansion of the Hadley circulation (HC) are considered robust responses of atmospheric meridional circulation to anthropogenic warming. Climate impacts arising from these changes enhance drought conditions and reduce food production in the affected regions. Therefore, understanding the mechanisms of HC changes is critical to anticipating the resultant climate risks.

Analysis of the benefit of anti-PD-1 monotherapy according to NGS-diagnosed genetic alterations in patients with non-small cell lung cancer.

Aim: Immune checkpoint inhibitors improved the survival of advanced non-small cell lung cancer. However, only 20% of patients respond to these treatments and the search for predictive biomarkers of response is still topical. The objective of this work is to analyze the anti-PD-1 monotherapy benefit based on genetic alterations diagnosed by next generation sequencing (NGS), in advanced non-small cell lung cancer.

Visualizing and quantifying biomineral preservation in fossil vertebrate dental remains.

In this study, we attempt to illustrate fossil vertebrate dental tissue geochemistry and, by inference, its extent of diagenetic alteration, using quantitative, semi-quantitative and optical tools to evaluate bioapatite preservation. We present visual comparisons of elemental compositions in fish and plesiosaur dental remains ranging in age from Silurian to Cretaceous, based on a combination of micro-scale optical cathodoluminescence (CL) observations (optical images and scanning electron microscope) with minor, trace and rare earth element (REE) compositions (EDS, maps and REE profiles), as a tool for assessing diagenetic processes and biomineral preservation during fossilization of vertebrate dental apatite. Tissue-selective REE values have been obtained using laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS), indicating areas of potential REE enrichment, combined with cathodoluminescence (CL) analysis.

Tacrolimus to belatacept conversion in proteinuric kidney transplant recipients.

Background: Proteinuria is associated with worse allograft outcomes in kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) and treatment strategies are limited. We examined the outcomes of calcineurin inhibitor (CNI) to belatacept conversion in proteinuric KTRs.

Methods: In a pilot phase II single-arm multicenter prospective trial, we recruited adult KTRs >6 months post-kidney transplantation with an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) ≥30 ml/min/1.

Metabolic adaptation of myeloid cells in the glioblastoma microenvironment.

In recent decades, immunometabolism in cancers has emerged as an interesting target for treatment development. Indeed, the tumor microenvironment (TME) unique characteristics such as hypoxia and limitation of nutrients availability lead to a switch in metabolic pathways in both tumor and TME cells in order to support their adaptation and grow. Glioblastoma (GBM), the most frequent and aggressive primary brain tumor in adults, has been extensively studied in multiple aspects regarding its immune population, but research focused on immunometabolism remains limited.

Contributions of connectional pathways to shaping Alzheimer's disease pathologies.

Four important imaging biomarkers of Alzheimer's disease, namely grey matter atrophy, glucose hypometabolism and amyloid-β and tau deposition, follow stereotypical spatial distributions shaped by the brain network of structural and functional connections. In this case-control study, we combined several predictors reflecting various possible mechanisms of spreading through structural and functional pathways to predict the topography of the four biomarkers in amyloid-positive patients while controlling for the effect of spatial distance along the cortex. For each biomarker, we quantified the relative contribution of each predictor to the variance explained by the model.

Association between cerebral oxygenation and usual parameters of cerebral perfusion in critically ill patients with acute brain injury.

In patients with acute brain injury (ABI), optimizing cerebral perfusion parameters relies on multimodal monitoring. This include data from systemic monitoring-mean arterial pressure (MAP), arterial carbon dioxide tension (PaCO), arterial oxygen saturation (SaO), hemoglobin levels (Hb), and temperature-as well as neurological monitoring-intracranial pressure (ICP), cerebral perfusion pressure (CPP), and transcranial Doppler (TCD) velocities. We hypothesized that these parameters alone were not sufficient to assess the risk of cerebral ischemia.

Unraveling the Origin of Unusual Cs Atom Disorder in Cesium Octahedral Molybdenum Halide Cluster Compounds, Cs[{MoX}X] (X = Cl and Br).

In this study, we investigate structural disorder and its implications in metal cluster (MC)-based compounds, specifically focusing on Cs[{MoX}X] (X = Cl and Br). Utilizing synchrotron radiation X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and luminescence measurements, we examined the incorporation of water molecules into these compounds and their effects on the crystal structure and optical properties. Our findings reveal that the presence of water molecules induces the lattice disorder, particularly the displacement of Cs atoms.

Background: Although self-esteem is a relatively new concept, first developed in the field of social psychology, it has gained increasing importance in psychiatry, especially as a diagnostic criterion. However, it is poorly evaluated in clinical practice. The lack of an instrument allowing an easy global assessment may be the reason for this.

The acute effects of dynamic stretching on the neuromuscular system are independent of the velocity.

This study examined the acute effects of dynamic stretching at different velocities on the neuromuscular system. Fourteen participants underwent four experimental sessions in random order: (1) control (lying at rest with the ankle in a neutral position); (2) slow velocity dynamic stretching (50 beats/min; SLOW); (3) moderate velocity dynamic stretching (70 beats/min; MOD); and (4) fast velocity dynamic stretching (90 beats/min; FAST). The stretching protocols consisted of four sets of 10 repetitions and targeted the plantar flexor muscles of the right ankle.

Person-Centredness and Paternalism: The Dance With Power.

Most qualitative research on PC focuses on physiotherapists in countries such as the UK, Australia, and the US, where PC is explicitly emphasised. In contrast, the term PC is absent in French educational standards, and its promotion is lacking in the French healthcare system.
