Purpose Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) affects 3% of adolescents. Physiotherapeutic Scoliosis Specific Exercises (PSSE) are recommended to limit AIS progression, especially within intensive multidisciplinary programs. Our study evaluated the efficiency of these programs in AIS cases with a high progression risk.

Article Synopsis
  • Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) is effective for treating heart failure but is under-researched in patients with common comorbidities like atrial fibrillation (AF).
  • The SMART registry enrolled 2035 patients to assess CRT response based on clinical outcomes over 12 months, focusing on factors like all-cause mortality, hospitalizations, and quality of life.
  • Results showed 58.9% of patients improved, but factors like age, AF, and diabetes were linked to lower CRT responsiveness, with patients having AF experiencing higher rates of hospitalizations and mortality compared to those in normal rhythm.

We report the case of a 3-year-old asymptomatic girl (12 kg, 96 cm) who was diagnosed with a large iatrogenic left ventricular pseudoaneurysm (LVP) on follow-up ultrasound, 14 months after apical muscular ventricular septal defect (VSD) closure with a 10 mm Amplatzer Muscular VSD occluder (Abbott, USA) due to device erosion. The LVP was successfully occluded using detachable Penumbra coils, with complete thrombo-exclusion confirmed at 12-month follow-up.

Mechanistic Learning for Predicting Survival Outcomes in Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma.

CPT Pharmacometrics Syst Pharmacol

December 2024

COMPutational Pharmacology and Clinical Oncology Department, Inria Sophia Antipolis - Méditerranée, Cancer Research Center of Marseille, Inserm UMR1068, CNRS UMR7258, Aix Marseille University UM105, Marseille, France.

We employed a mechanistic learning approach, integrating on-treatment tumor kinetics (TK) modeling with various machine learning (ML) models to address the challenge of predicting post-progression survival (PPS)-the duration from the time of documented disease progression to death-and overall survival (OS) in Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma (HNSCC). We compared the predictive power of model-derived TK parameters versus RECIST and assessed the efficacy of nine TK-OS ML models against conventional survival models. Data from 526 advanced HNSCC patients treated with chemotherapy and cetuximab in the TPExtreme trial were analyzed using a double-exponential model.

Disruption of deoxyribonucleotide triphosphate biosynthesis leads to RAS proto-oncogene activation and perturbation of mitochondrial metabolism.

Virus and Cellular Stress Unit, Department of Virology, Université Paris Cité, Institut Pasteur, 28 rue du Dr. Roux, F-75724 Paris cedex 15, France. Electronic address:

Perturbation of the deoxyribonucleotide triphosphate (dNTP) pool is recognized for contributing to the mutagenic processes involved in oncogenesis. The RAS gene family encodes well characterized oncoproteins whose structure and function are among the most frequently altered in several cancers. In this work, we show that fluctuation of the dNTP pool induces CG->TA mutations across the whole genome, including RAS gene at codons for glycine 12 and 13, known hotspots in cancers.

The example of an advanced practice nurse/health executive pairing up in an outpatient psychiatric department shows that pooling the missions and skills of each can help to improve the care pathway for users and provide support for teams. The success of this partnership depends on the sharing of know-how and a clear definition of each person's role and responsibilities.

Service de médecine de l'adolescent, Centre hospitalier de Versailles, Hôpital André-Mignot, 11 rue de Versailles, 78150 Le Chesnay-Rocquencourt, France.

Social networks play an important role in the daily lives of adolescents, even when they are hospitalized in a child psychiatric ward. While they enable them to establish and maintain relationships, and can ease emotional tensions, they can also increase their sense of malaise. Many hospitalized young people report digital harassment, revenge porn or exposure to harmful or even dangerous content.

From time immemorial, psychiatry has been the focus of a number of associations. Starting out as charities on the bangs of asylum care, after the war they became a force for innovation and the forerunners of sector policy. After taking the medical-social turn in the 1970s, they spread out across the country in disparate fashion, providing local, low-capacity facilities that put patients' families at the forefront.

Membrane nanodomains to shape plant cellular functions and signaling.

New Phytol

December 2024

IPSiM, Univ Montpellier, CNRS, INRAE, Institut Agro, Montpellier, 34000, France.

Plasma membrane (PM) nanodomains have emerged as pivotal elements in the regulation of plant cellular functions and signal transduction. These nanoscale membrane regions, enriched in specific lipids and proteins, behave as regulatory/signaling hubs spatially and temporally coordinating critical cellular functions. In this review, we first examine the mechanisms underlying the formation and maintenance of PM nanodomains in plant cells, highlighting the roles of PM lipid composition, protein oligomerization and interactions with cytoskeletal and cell wall components.

Background: Cell-free hemoglobin (CFH) and free heme are potent mediators of endotheliopathy and organ injury in sepsis, but their roles in other hemolytic pathologies are not well-defined. A prime example is trauma where early hemolysis may initiate damage and predict outcome. Here, we investigated the presence of plasma CFH, heme, and their major scavengers after traumatic injury.

Background And Objectives: The pharmacokinetics (PK) of piperacillin/tazobactam (PIP/TAZ) is highly variable across different patient populations and there are controversies regarding non-linear elimination as well as the fraction unbound of PIP (f). This has led to a plethora of subgroup-specific models, increasing the risk of misusing published models when optimising dosing regimens. In this study, we aimed to develop a single model to simultaneously describe the PK of PIP/TAZ in diverse patient populations and evaluate the current dosing recommendations by predicting the PK/pharmacodynamics (PD) target attainment throughout life.

Gephyrocapsa huxleyi is a prevalent, bloom-forming phytoplankton species in the oceans. It exhibits a complex haplodiplontic life cycle, featuring a diploid-calcified phase, a haploid phase and a third 'decoupled' phase produced during viral infection. Decoupled cells display a haploid-like phenotype, but are diploid.
