Public awareness, knowledge, and attitude toward epilepsy in Lebanon: a cross-sectional study.

Purpose: Epilepsy, a prevalent chronic neurological disorder, is associated with misconceptions, negative attitudes, and stigma because of poor public knowledge and awareness. Therefore, the purpose of the current study was to assess the knowledge, awareness, and attitudes toward epilepsy and its associated factors among the Lebanese general population.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on Lebanese adults between October 2021 and June 2022 using an electronic structured self-administered questionnaire that was circulated online using the different social media platforms.

Purpose Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) affects 3% of adolescents. Physiotherapeutic Scoliosis Specific Exercises (PSSE) are recommended to limit AIS progression, especially within intensive multidisciplinary programs. Our study evaluated the efficiency of these programs in AIS cases with a high progression risk.

Closure of a Late-Onset Iatrogenic Left Ventricular Pseudoaneurysm Caused by Erosion of an Apical Muscular VSD Device.

We report the case of a 3-year-old asymptomatic girl (12 kg, 96 cm) who was diagnosed with a large iatrogenic left ventricular pseudoaneurysm (LVP) on follow-up ultrasound, 14 months after apical muscular ventricular septal defect (VSD) closure with a 10 mm Amplatzer Muscular VSD occluder (Abbott, USA) due to device erosion. The LVP was successfully occluded using detachable Penumbra coils, with complete thrombo-exclusion confirmed at 12-month follow-up.

Mechanistic Learning for Predicting Survival Outcomes in Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma.

We employed a mechanistic learning approach, integrating on-treatment tumor kinetics (TK) modeling with various machine learning (ML) models to address the challenge of predicting post-progression survival (PPS)-the duration from the time of documented disease progression to death-and overall survival (OS) in Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma (HNSCC). We compared the predictive power of model-derived TK parameters versus RECIST and assessed the efficacy of nine TK-OS ML models against conventional survival models. Data from 526 advanced HNSCC patients treated with chemotherapy and cetuximab in the TPExtreme trial were analyzed using a double-exponential model.

Perturbation of the deoxyribonucleotide triphosphate (dNTP) pool is recognized for contributing to the mutagenic processes involved in oncogenesis. The RAS gene family encodes well characterized oncoproteins whose structure and function are among the most frequently altered in several cancers. In this work, we show that fluctuation of the dNTP pool induces CG->TA mutations across the whole genome, including RAS gene at codons for glycine 12 and 13, known hotspots in cancers.

Introduction And Objectives: The Valve Academic Research Consortium (VARC)-3 definition of the early safety (ES) composite endpoint after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) lacks clinical validation. The aim of this study was to determine the incidence, predictors, and clinical impact of ES after TAVR as defined by VARC-3 criteria.

Methods: We performed a multicenter study including 10 078 patients with severe aortic stenosis undergoing transarterial TAVR.

These nanoscale membrane regions, enriched in specific lipids and proteins, behave as regulatory/signaling hubs spatially and temporally coordinating critical cellular functions. In this review, we first examine the mechanisms underlying the formation and maintenance of PM nanodomains in plant cells, highlighting the roles of PM lipid composition, protein oligomerization and interactions with cytoskeletal and cell wall components.

A Pooled Pharmacokinetic Analysis for Piperacillin/Tazobactam Across Different Patient Populations: From Premature Infants to the Elderly.

Background And Objectives: The pharmacokinetics (PK) of piperacillin/tazobactam (PIP/TAZ) is highly variable across different patient populations and there are controversies regarding non-linear elimination as well as the fraction unbound of PIP (f). This has led to a plethora of subgroup-specific models, increasing the risk of misusing published models when optimising dosing regimens. In this study, we aimed to develop a single model to simultaneously describe the PK of PIP/TAZ in diverse patient populations and evaluate the current dosing recommendations by predicting the PK/pharmacodynamics (PD) target attainment throughout life.
