Introduction: Alcohol consumption poses a significant health risk, contributing to 10% of deaths in the WHO European Region. To combat this, the WHO recommends the implementation of its 'best buy' policies-three cost-effective alcohol policies that include higher taxes, restricted availability and marketing bans. While evidence links alcohol marketing to increased consumption, the effectiveness of marketing bans in decreasing alcohol use remains inconclusive.

Background: The functional diversity of microtubules is regulated through the expression of distinct α- and β-tubulin isotypes together with several post-translational modifications, a concept known as tubulin code. Tubulin detyrosination is a reversible post-translational modification which consists in the removal of the genetically encoded C-terminal tyrosine residue of most α-tubulins. While this modification has been observed in the megakaryocyte lineage, its importance remains poorly understood in platelet biogenesis.

Heart failure (HF) occurs when the heart fails to meet the body's demands. Differentiating and managing HF with Preserved Ejection Fraction (HFpEF) versus Reduced Ejection Fraction (HFrEF) remains challenging, as therapeutic strategies for HFpEF have largely been ineffective. Exercise intolerance is a hallmark of HFpEF, making the identification of biological pathways underlying exercise-related impairments particularly important.

Host-microbiota cooperation is critical for successful intestinal homeostasis. The commensal segmented filamentous bacteria (SFB) are crucial for orchestrating the post-natal maturation of the host gut immune system and establishing a healthy state of physiological inflammation, which largely depends on their intimate attachment to the ileal mucosa. However, the signaling pathways used by SFB to induce gut immune responses and how such responses ultimately control SFB colonization remain controversial.

In France, the practice of laboratory medicine has, over the past ten years or so, met with a certain amount of disenchantment from medical students. Despite its intricacy and importance to healthcare, the world of the clinical laboratory lacks visibility in medical studies. While other phenomena can explain this disenchantment, our belief in the importance of promoting greater visibility of laboratory medicine in medical studies led us to examine for this article the images and symbols associated with the profession, based on a semiotic analysis.
