Background: Achieving a durable mitral line block using radiofrequency as a part of an anatomical approach for ablation in patients with persistent atrial fibrillation or for treating peri-mitral flutter has always been challenging due to the complex anatomy of the mitral isthmus. Epicardial ablation via the coronary sinus and the vein of Marshall has been proposed to help create durable lesions. Recently, a novel lattice-tip catheter using pulsed field ablation has shown promising results for creating mitral lines, despite limited data.

Multicenter validation of secondary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis diagnostic criteria.

Background: Five fulfilled hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH)-2004 criteria, and the HScore are widely used and recommended by international expert consensus to diagnose secondary HLH. Both diagnostic scores have never been validated in heterogeneous patient cohorts of secondary HLH patients. We aimed to systematically optimize and validate diagnostic criteria of secondary HLH using a multicenter approach.

This proceedings article summarizes the inaugural "T Cells in the Brain" symposium held at Columbia University. Experts gathered to explore the role of T cells in neurodegenerative diseases. Key topics included characterization of antigen-specific immune responses, T cell receptor (TCR) repertoire, microbial etiology in Alzheimer's disease (AD), and microglia-T cell crosstalk, with a focus on how T cells affect neuroinflammation and AD biomarkers like amyloid beta and tau.

Background: The health benefits of organic food provide one reason for consuming it. Various studies have shown that regular organic food consumers (REG eco-con) follow a healthier diet. However, this topic has not been explored in Poland.

Mediation of modifiable risk factors in two multidomain dementia prevention trials.

Introduction: We explored which dementia risk factors in two multidomain prevention trials mediate beneficial, neutral, or counteracting effects on dementia incidence.

Methods: We pooled data from the multidomain MAPT (Multidomain Alzheimer Preventive Trial; n = 1679, up to 5-year follow-up) and preDIVA trials (Prevention of Dementia by Intensive Vascular Care; n = 3526, up to 12-year follow-up) in adults aged 70+. We used multiple mediation analysis to quantify the role of 2-year changes in body mass index, systolic blood pressure, total cholesterol, and physical activity in the intervention effects on dementia incidence.

Translation of unspliced retroviral genomic RNA in the host cell is regulated in both space and time.

Retroviruses carry a genomic intron-containing RNA with a long structured 5'-untranslated region, which acts either as a genome encapsidated in the viral progeny or as an mRNA encoding the key structural protein, Gag. We developed a single-molecule microscopy approach to simultaneously visualize the viral mRNA and the nascent Gag protein during translation directly in the cell. We found that a minority of the RNA molecules serve as mRNA and that they are translated in a fast and efficient process.

In the animal kingdom, metamorphosis is a well-known developmental transition within various taxa (Cnidarians, Echinoderms, Molluscs, Arthropods, Vertebrates, etc.), which is characterized by the switching from a larval stage to an adult form through the induction of morpho-anatomical, physiological, behavioral, and/or ecological changes. Over the last decades, numerous studies have focused on the hormonal control of cellular processes underlying metamorphosis.

[Allelopathy: chemical communication between plants].

Today, weed control in agricultural systems is largely based on the use of synthetic pesticides. However, the use of these compounds is increasingly controversial among farmers and consumers, who point to their harmful properties for human health and the environment. In this context, the development of eco-friendly agricultural approaches and practices is becoming essential, and allelopathy represents a promising solution.

[The role of volatile organic compounds in plant-insect communication].

Insects and flowering plants are the most abundant and diverse multicellular organisms on Earth, accounting for 75% of known species. Their evolution has been largely interdependent since the so-called Angiosperm Terrestrial Revolution (100-50 Mya), when the explosion of plant diversity stimulated the evolution of pollinating and herbivorous insects. Plant-insect interactions rely heavily on chemical communication via volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

The evolutionary success of angiosperms, which make up more than 95 percent of the world's terrestrial flora, is largely based on their interactions with animal pollinators. Indeed, it is estimated that, on average, 87.5 percent of flowering plants are pollinated by animals.

[Thousands of years of human-dog relationship].

During recent years, much progress has been made in understanding the origin and evolution of the dog. Thanks to the collaboration between zooarchaeology, genomics and paleogenetics, researchers were able to hypothesize scenarios regarding the origins of the canine lineages present in Europe at the end of the Pleistocene and the beginning of the Holocene. Research has also shown a correlation between human and canine migration across time and space, highlighting a strong relationship between man and his best friend.

[Exploring protein degradation pathways as therapeutic innovations].

The disruption of proteostasis provides a favourable context for the emergence of therapeutic innovations, in particular by exploiting technologies such as the PROTAC (Proteolysis Targeting Chimera) approach. These technologies aim to selectively target proteins involved in various diseases, including cancer and neurodegenerative diseases, by inducing their specific degradation via the ubiquitin-proteasome system. The PROTAC approach opens new opportunities for restoring altered protein homeostasis and modulating the pathological consequences of proteostasis deregulation.

[Marine trophic and socio-ecological networks under pressure: study of the cumulative impact of climate change and offshore wind farm development].

In the anthropocene era, one of the greatest challenges facing trophic modeling applied to the marine environment is its ability to couple the multiple effects of both climate change and local anthropogenic activities, notably the development of offshore wind farms. The major challenge is to create scenarios to characterize their cumulative effects on the functioning of the entire socio-ecological system, in order to propose appropriate management plans. Although modeling cumulative impact on socio-ecological networks is not yet widely used, data reported in the present review article show that the relevance of this approach could be established in the context of offshore wind power.

[Gene coexpression networks: concepts and applications].

The advent of high-throughput omics data and the generation of new algorithms provide the biologists with the opportunity to explore living processes in the context of systems biology aiming at revealing the gene interactions, the networks underlying complex cellular functions. In this article, we discuss two methods for gene network reconstruction, WGCNA (Weighted Gene Correlation Network Analysis) developed by Steve Horvath and collaborators in 2008, and MIIC (Multivariate Information-based Inductive Causation) developed by Hervé Isambert and his team in 2017 and 2024. These two methods are complementary, WGCNA generating undirected networks in which most gene-to-gene interactions are indirect, while MIIC reveals direct interactions and some causal links.

Co-cropping of hyperaccumulators is still poorly understood, while associations between hyperaccumulators and other plant species may promote beneficial plant interactions and lead to increased metal phytoextraction from contaminated soils. The aim of this study was to evaluate the phytoextraction potential of the Ni-hyperaccumulator in different co-cropping combinations with and . Plants were grown in ultramafic soil in a growth chamber for 45 days and Al, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb, and Zn concentrations in roots and leaves were analyzed.

Allometric Relationships of Branch Water-Storage Capacity and Capacitance in Four European Trees Species.

Water storage capacity and capacitance in trees regulate hydration levels, providing water reserves during drought. However, the effects of varying traits, tissue fractions and of different water pools on the allometry of branch-/sample-level properties have not been systematically investigated. We analyse the relationships between branch size and branch capacity and capacitance with respect to wood density, xylem vulnerability to embolism, and tissue fractions.

Presence of sibutramine and sildenafil in weight loss dietary supplements: a case series with analytical and clinical investigation.

Introduction: The use of weight loss supplements is increasing, often driven by online marketing. However, many of these supplements are adulterated with undeclared pharmaceutical substances, potentially posing significant health risks. We investigated the presence of sibutramine and sildenafil in weight loss supplements and assessed the associated clinical outcomes.

This work focuses on the tungsten/copper (W/Cu) interface built according to theWbcc(001)/Cuhcp(112¯0)orientation. H behavior is subsequently determined at the interface and in its vicinity with electronic structure calculations based on the density functional theory.

Has AlphaFold3 achieved success for RNA?

Predicting the 3D structure of RNA is a significant challenge despite ongoing advancements in the field. Although AlphaFold has successfully addressed this problem for proteins, RNA structure prediction raises difficulties due to the fundamental differences between proteins and RNA, which hinder its direct adaptation. The latest release of AlphaFold, AlphaFold3, has broadened its scope to include multiple different molecules such as DNA, ligands and RNA.

Investing in equitable healthy aging: Why Africa must reform social pension schemes to improve Alzheimer's disease and dementia outcomes.

The eligibility criteria for social pension schemes in Africa hinder equitable and healthy aging. In 2019, women in 14 sub-Saharan African countries had an average life expectancy of 67 years but a healthy life expectancy of only 57 years, leaving them 5 years in poor health before receiving a pension at age 62. Men had a similar situation-a life expectancy of 62 years and a healthy life expectancy of 53 years, spending 10 years in poor health before becoming eligible for pensions at age 63.

A multi-cohort study of longitudinal and cross-sectional Alzheimer's disease biomarkers in cognitively unimpaired older adults.
