Cholinesterase (ChE) inhibitors are under consideration to be used in the treatment of cardiovascular pathologies. A prerequisite to advancing ChE inhibitors into the clinic is their thorough characterization in the heart. The aim here was to provide a detailed analysis of cardiac ChE to understand their molecular composition, localization, and physiological functions.

Urban reservoirs are frequently exposed to impacts from high population density, polluting activities, and the absence of environmental control measures and monitoring. In this study, we investigated the use of satellite imagery to assess restoration measures and support decision-making in a hypereutrophic urban reservoir. Since 2016, Lake Pampulha (Brazil) has undergone restoration measures, including the application of Phoslock®, to mitigate its poor water quality conditions.

Rationale: In critically ill patients receiving invasive mechanical ventilation, switching from controlled to assisted ventilation is a crucial milestone towards ventilator liberation. The optimal timing for switching to assisted ventilation has not been studied.
Objectives: Our objective was to determine whether a strategy of early as compared to delayed switching affects the duration of invasive mechanical ventilation, ICU length of stay, and mortality.

The development of novel therapeutic strategies enabling the selective destruction of tumors while sparing healthy tissues is of great interest to improve the efficacy of cancer chemotherapy. In this context, we designed a β-glucuronidase-responsive albumin-binding prodrug programmed to release a potent Isocombretastatin A-4 analog within the tumor microenvironment. When injected at a non-toxic dose in mice bearing orthotopic triple-negative mammary tumors, this prodrug produced a significant anticancer activity, therefore offering a valuable alternative to the systemic administration of the parent drug.

exon 14 ex14) skipping occurs in 3-4% of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cases. Low frequency of this alteration necessitated open-label, single-arm trials to investigate MET inhibitors. Since broad MET biomarker testing was only recently introduced in many countries, there is a lack of historical real-world data from patients with ex14 skipping NSCLC receiving conventional therapies.

Iron-copper complexes have been extensively studied in the search for efficient cytochrome oxidase models. Whereas most dinuclear materials usually focus on fine-tuning the coordination of heme-Fe, this work shows that the coordination of copper in cytochrome oxidase models should be carefully taken into consideration. A β-cyclodextrin dimer was built around a bipyridine linker and combined with Fe-tetraphenylsulfonatoporphyrinate (FeTPPS) to generate a self-assembled hydrosoluble cytochrome oxidase model.

Light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs) are an attractive technology in the field of solid state light devices (SSLDs) as their simple architectures allow the preparation of cost-effective lighting devices. Consequently, low-cost and sustainable emitters are highly desirable. Transition metal complexes are attractive in this field as they have been proved to possess compatible optoelectronic properties.

Unlabelled: Mycobacteria, including pathogens like , exhibit unique growth patterns and cell envelope structures that challenge our understanding of bacterial physiology. This study sheds light on FhaA, a conserved protein in , revealing its pivotal role in coordinating cell envelope biogenesis and asymmetric growth. The elucidation of the FhaA interactome in living mycobacterial cells reveals its participation in the protein network orchestrating cell envelope biogenesis and cell elongation/division.

Following several reports on ligand-protected atom-precise nanoclusters which encapsulate hydrides as interstitial dopants within their icosahedral core, the stability, structure and bonding of MH@Ag and MH@Au (M = Mo-Ag; W-Au) 8-electron cores is investigated through DFT calculations. The encapsulation of up to = 3 hydrides appears to be possible but at the cost of substantial structural distortions. In most of the computed models, the hydrides are found nearly free to move inside their icosahedral cages.

Background: Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by the accumulation of lipids and leukocytes within the arterial wall. By studying the aortic transcriptome of atherosclerosis-prone apolipoprotein E (ApoE) mice, we aimed to identify novel players in the progression of atherosclerosis.
Methods: RNA-Seq analysis was performed on aortas from ApoE and wild-type mice.

Older patients are at risk of falling, making fall prevention a critical component of training for future health professionals. To understand the expectations of health students regarding falls in the elderly, four consecutive focus groups were organized at the Angers hospital. The aim was to assess students' views on the effectiveness of using an educational or serious game to complement their traditional training.

A quarter of nursing home residents dies in hospital. Few data are available about early in-hospital deaths of nursing home residents. The aim of the study was to describe the characteristics of early in-hospital deaths of nursing home residents after an admission in emergency department and to identify factors associated with a decision of limitation of care in emergency department.

This article comes from an academic research, conducted with old persons living in French nursing homes and doing esports workshops, led by young volunteers. With the case of a 93-year-old resident, recently introduced to technological tools, we show how the stakes of videogames competition were at first met with her fear not to be good enough. However, her involvement in the competition mustered, through afterwardness, some elements from her childhood and adolescent psychic life.

Despite the growing deployment of the Montessori method in nursing homes, there is no instrument to measure its implementation fidelity, limiting the interpretation of results. Our aims are to i) develop an evaluation grid for the Montessori method in nursing homes; ii) explore its sensitivity to practice heterogeneity among institutions pre-training; and iii) study its sensitivity to change after the training. Based on literature and expert opinions, we created an evaluation grid.

The objective of our work was to study the impact of a mobile health unit of geriatric psychiatry (EMGP) on the number of consultations to the emergency medical service and on the rate of readmissions. This was an observational, retrospective, single-center cohort study, which aimed to identify the number of visits to the Troyes SAU for psychiatric reasons. This in patients who have previously benefited from hospitalization in the Aube geriatric-psychiatry department called Ellipses.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate 30-day medication continuity in older patients whose PPP was implemented at hospital discharge. Prospective randomized controlled trial including people aged at least 75 discharged from an acute geriatric unit.

People suffering from a neurodegenerative disease, at a stage still allowing physical activity, encounter more difficulties to access to re-education and rehabilitation care. A trial unit specialized in medical care and rehabilitation (SMR) was created to handle these patients, who suffered a morbid intercurrent event not related to the neurocognitive disorder. The trial unit was created thanks to a dedicated funding from the Brittany Health Regional Agency (ARS) following-up a call for projects in October 2021.

The risk of herpes zoster (HZ) and postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) increases rapidly after the age of 50 years old. The incidence of herpes zoster and PHN appears to be correctly measured albeit irregularly and the immediate and long-term complications are so poorly measured that the perception of a benign disease remains entrenched among professionals and in the general population. Because acute-phase treatments are only marginally effective in reducing the severity and duration of complications, zoster vaccines have been developed over the last twenty years.

Introduction: Cellular characteristics of induced sputum (IS) are not investigated in cystic fibrosis (CF) patients.
Objectives: This pilot study, conducted on 17 expectorating CF adolescents, compared sputa obtained the same day, in a stable period, by autogenic drainage (expectorating sputum, ES) and 4 h later after inhaling hypertonic saline (IS).
Results: No difference was noted concerning weight, volume, and percentage of dead cells between the two collection methods.
