Anterior tibial tuberosity osteotomy is a well-described therapeutic option for the treatment of patellar instability. External torsion of the anterior tibial tuberosity can be one of several factors that adversely affect the patellofemoral joint and its stability. The Anterior Tibial Tubercle Internal Torsion Osteotomy (ATTITO) allows the correction of excessive external torsion of the tibial tuberosity in a safe and reproducible manner.

Introduction: The indications for total knee arthroplasty (TKA) are expanding to include younger and more active patients. Several recent studies have warned of a higher revision rate and lower patient satisfaction in younger patients. The aim of this study was to assess the survival of TKAs in patients under the age of 55 and to determine the risk factors for revision and complications.

Introduction: Spinopelvic kinematics, reflected by the change in spinopelvic tilt (ΔSPT) from a standing position to a flexed seated position, has been associated with the risk of prosthetic impingement and hip dislocation. Some studies have suggested changes in spinopelvic mobility after total hip arthroplasty (THA), but none have explored changes in mobility in the first three months following THA using a direct anterior approach.
Hypothesis: Our hypothesis was that changes in spinopelvic mobility occur in the first 3 months postoperatively, leading to increased hip mobility and increased spinopelvic kinematic abnormalities.

The traditional model of protein structure determined by the amino acid sequence is today seriously challenged by the fact that approximately half of the human proteome is made up of proteins that do not have a stable 3D structure, either partially or in totality. These proteins, called intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs), are involved in numerous physiological functions and are associated with severe pathologies, e.g.

Despite tremendous advancements in neuroscience, there has been limited impact on patient care. Current psychiatric treatments are largely non-specific, and drug development is hindered by outdated, overinclusive diagnostic categories and a "one-size-fits-all" approach. Additionally, mechanisms underlying psychiatric illnesses and their treatments with conventional medications remain poorly understood.

Objectives: The aim of the present study was to develop a PK interaction model of intravenous (IV) and oral clindamycin when combined with rifampicin, and to determine whether appropriate clindamycin concentrations could be achieved for different doses and administration routes (oral, intermittent and continuous infusion) of clindamycin.
Methods: Five hundred and eighteen plasma samples were prospectively obtained from 124 patients treated for bone and joint infections. Population PK analysis was performed using Monolix software.

Background: In patients with high-risk (HR) prostate cancer (PCa) treated with radiotherapy and androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), intensification with androgen receptor pathway inhibitor (ARPI) improves overall survival (OS), at the cost of significant side-effects. We hypothesized that "augmented RT" schedules (defined as either dose-escalation on the prostate gland over 78Gy and/or addition of whole pelvic radiotherapy (WPRT)), combined with long-term ADT can reach excellent prostate cancer specific survival (PCSS) in this population with little detrimental impact on quality of life.
Methods: We searched Pubmed database until February 8, 2024.

Objective: Neurosurgical care is difficult to access in many scenarios. Aeromedical evacuation of acutely unwell neurosurgical patients from remote, isolated or poorly equipped locations can be considered. This article aims to provide a framework of logistical factors which deserve special consideration in the preparation of these patients for transfer.

Flooding induces hypoxia in plant tissues, impacting various physiological and biochemical processes. This study investigates the adaptive response of the roots and nitrogen-fixing nodules of Medicago truncatula in symbiosis with Sinorhizobium meliloti under short-term hypoxia caused by flooding. Four-week-old plants were subjected to flooding for 1 to 4 days.

Front-of-Package (FOP) nutrition labels are designed to convey the healthiness of food products and help consumers make healthier choices. This research examines how French consumers' responses to a FOP nutrition label-Nutri-Score-are influenced by their initial expectations regarding the overall healthiness of products. Based on expectancy-disconfirmation theory, we hypothesize that when consumers expect products to have a better score than the one displayed on the FOP label, the label will enhance guilt perception and reduce purchase intention.

Background: Bipolar disorder (BD) is a severe psychiatric condition with unclear etiology and no established biomarkers. Here, we aimed to characterize the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) proteome in euthymic BD individuals to identify potential protein biomarkers.
Methods: We employed nano-flow liquid chromatography coupled to high-resolution mass spectrometry to quantify over 2,000 CSF proteins in 374 individuals from two independent clinical cohorts (n=164+89 and 66+55 cases and controls, respectively).

Current bacterial infections clinical treatments, such as intravenous antibiotic administration and local injection, suffer from short action duration, repeated administrations, and severe cell toxicity. To address these limitations, it is imperative to develop sustained drug release system with prolonged antimicrobial effects. In this work, a hybrid system was prepared using EDC/NHS catalyzed crosslinking-based carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS) hydrogel as a carrier to encapsulate biodegradable nanoparticles (NPs) loaded with vancomycin, an efficient antibacterial drug.

Background: Despite the morbidity and mortality of venous thromboembolism, there is little evidence to guide postpartum thromboprophylaxis in patients at moderate risk. We aimed to assess the feasibility of conducting a double-blind, randomised trial of aspirin versus placebo in postpartum individuals with two or more venous thromboembolism risk factors, mild-to-moderate thrombophilia, or both.
Methods: The pilot PARTUM trial, a multi-national, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, was conducted in seven centres across Canada, France, Ireland, and the Netherlands.

Background: Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) have found antibiotics to be a feasible and safe alternative to appendicectomy in adults with imaging-confirmed acute appendicitis. However, patient inclusion criteria and outcome definitions vary greatly between RCTs. We aimed to compare antibiotics with appendicectomy for the treatment of acute appendicitis using individual patient data and uniform outcome definitions.

Controlled laboratory experiments were carried out using the hanging column method. Prior to the experiments, three uniform silica sands, which were originally water-wet, were aged in contact with crude oil until they were moderately oil-wet. Five fractionally wet sands were obtained by mixing the water-wet sands with oil-wet sands containing 25, 50 and 75 vol% oil-wet sands.

Surgery, especially if minimally invasive, still plays a role in the diagnosis of suspect lymphoproliferative lesions in challenging locations such as the retroperitoneum. Fluorescence guidance may help in such cases facilitating the visualization of highly vascularized lesions. Our recent experience with a 71-year-old woman with retroperitoneal lymphadenopathy and suspected lymphoma supports this hypothesis.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of seletracetam (SEL), a potent modulator of synaptic vesicle glycoprotein 2A (SV2A), in patients with photoparoxysmal EEG response (PPR) to intermittent photic stimulation (IPS) as proof-of-principle of efficacy in patients with epilepsy. In this multicenter, single-blind Phase II study, adults with photosensitive epilepsy, with/without concomitant antiseizure medication therapy, underwent IPS under 3 eye conditions (at eye closure, eyes closed and eyes open) after a single oral dose of placebo (day - 1) or SEL (day 1; 0.5, 1, 2, 4, 10, or 20 mg).

In the pursuit of an effortless "miracle cure", there has been a significant increase in the proliferation of fad diets. These diets generally exclude a food group or macronutrients and may also restrict energy intake; they become popular quickly but often lack substantial scientific evidence to support their efficacy and safety. They only show short-term results rather than promoting a lifestyle change.
