Investigating the quality of European silver eels by quantifying contaminants and parasite infestation in a French Mediterranean lagoon complex.

Coastal lagoons are diverse habitats with significant ecological gradients, which provide crucial ecosystem services but face threats from human activities such as invasive species and pollution. Among the species inhabiting the lagoons, the critically endangered European eel (Anguilla anguilla) is an emblematic species strongly impacted by contamination and parasitism. Several indicators were developed to assess the quality of eel at a large geographic scale.

Sleep quality in lung cancer and specifically non-small-cell lung cancer: a rapid review.

Purpose: Sleep quality contributes to the improvement of quality of life in cancer patients. However, sleep disturbances, of variable and heterogeneous etiologies, are common and frequently overlooked in lung cancer patients. The present study undertakes a rapid review of available peer-reviewed literature on sleep quality in lung cancer patients, specifically non-small-cell lung cancer patients.

Outpatient total hip arthroplasty: robotic assistance reduces 90-Day postoperative events and optimizes outpatient care.

Purpose: The adoption of robotic-assisted total hip arthroplasty (THA) is increasingly widespread, yet its influence on outcomes in outpatient surgery remains uncertain. This study aimed to evaluate whether robotic assistance reduces the rate of 90-day postoperative events in patients undergoing outpatient THA, compared to those in inpatient procedures.

Methods: This historical-prospective cohort study analyzed 706 primary THA cases performed between January 2017 and January 2023 by three senior surgeons.

The immunogenicity of rabies vaccines is commonly measured by serological testing, which includes measuring rabies virus-neutralising antibody titre levels in the serum. Apart from humoral immunity, cellular immunity measurements are also helpful in assessing the immunogenicity and efficacy of rabies vaccinations. Recently, there has been an increased emphasis on cellular immunity measurements against rabies in humans and animals.

Clinical significance criteria in the ICSD and DSM sleep disorder classifications: a content overlap analysis using the Jaccard index.

Study Objectives: Both the (ICSD) and the sleep-wake disorders section of the (DSM) emphasize the importance of clinical judgment in distinguishing the normal from the pathological in sleep medicine. The fourth edition of the DSM (DSM-IV, 1994) introduced the clinical significance criterion (CSC) to standardize this judgment and enhance diagnostic reliability.

Methods: This review conducts a theoretical and historical content analysis of CSC presence, frequency, and formulation in the diagnostic criteria of sleep disorders.

Background: The inheritance of the short allele, encoding the serotonin transporter (SERT) in humans, increases susceptibility to neuropsychiatric and metabolic disorders, with aging and female sex further exacerbating these conditions. Both central and peripheral mechanisms of the compromised serotonin (5-HT) system play crucial roles in this context. Previous studies on SERT-deficient (Sert) mice, which model human SERT deficiency, have demonstrated emotional and metabolic disturbances, exacerbated by exposure to a high-fat Western diet (WD).

Carbohydrate-active enzymes (CAZymes) involved in the degradation of plant cell walls and/or the assimilation of plant carbohydrates for energy uptake are widely distributed in microorganisms. In contrast, they are less frequent in animals, although there are exceptions, including examples of CAZymes acquired by horizontal gene transfer (HGT) from bacteria or fungi in several of phytophagous arthropods and plant-parasitic nematodes. Although the whitefly Bemisia tabaci is a major agricultural pest, knowledge of HGT-acquired CAZymes in this phloem-feeding insect of the Hemiptera order (subfamily Aleyrodinae) is still lacking.

Phytochemical composition, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of Delile ex Godr flowers extracts.

Socio-economic inequalities in second primary cancer incidence: A competing risks analysis of women with breast cancer in England between 2000 and 2018.

We aimed to investigate socio-economic inequalities in second primary cancer (SPC) incidence among breast cancer survivors. Using Data from cancer registries in England, we included all women diagnosed with a first primary breast cancer (PBC) between 2000 and 2018 and aged between 18 and 99 years and followed them up from 6 months after the PBC diagnosis until a SPC event, death, or right censoring, whichever came first. We used flexible parametric survival models adjusting for age and year of PBC diagnosis, ethnicity, PBC tumour stage, comorbidity, and PBC treatments to model the cause-specific hazards of SPC incidence and death according to income deprivation, and then estimated standardised cumulative incidences of SPC by deprivation, taking death as the competing event.

Phage Therapy as a Rescue Treatment for Recurrent Bentall Infection.

Phage therapy is experiencing renewed interest, particularly for antibiotic-resistant infections, and may also be useful for difficult-to-treat cases where surgery to remove foreign infected material is deemed too risky. We report a case of recurrent endocarditis with Bentall infection treated successfully with a combination of antibiotics and phages.

Feline Papillomatosis.

Different types of feline papillomaviruses (PVs) are associated with a variety of skin lesions and neoplasia, such as papillomas and cell carcinomas, but the virus can also be found in healthy skin. In this review, the European Advisory Board on Cat Diseases (ABCD), a scientifically independent board of veterinary experts on feline infectious diseases from 11 European Countries, discusses the current knowledge of feline PV infections. Detection and Phylogenetic Characterization of Influenza D in Swedish Cattle.

Increased evidence suggests that cattle are the primary host of Influenza D virus (IDV) and may contribute to respiratory disease in this species. The aim of this study was to detect and characterise IDV in the Swedish cattle population using archived respiratory samples. This retrospective study comprised a collection of a total 1763 samples collected between 1 January 2021 and 30 June 2024.

Exploration of the Role of Cyclophilins in Established Hepatitis B and C Infections.

Cyclophilin (Cyp) inhibitors are of clinical interest in respect to their antiviral activities in the context of many viral infections including chronic hepatitis B and C. Cyps are a group of enzymes with peptidyl-prolyl isomerase activity (PPIase), known to be required for replication of diverse viruses including hepatitis B and C viruses (HBV and HCV). Amongst the Cyp family, the molecular mechanisms underlying the antiviral effects of CypA have been investigated in detail, but potential roles of other Cyps are less well studied in the context of viral hepatitis.

Bryophyte Flora of AlUla County (Saudi Arabia)-Distribution, Ecology, and Conservation.

Intensive surveys recently conducted in AlUla County (northwest Saudi Arabia) have made it possible to compile an exhaustive list of the forty-eight bryophyte species (six liverworts and forty-two mosses) known in this region and compare it with an updated checklist of bryophytes from Saudi Arabia, which now counts 31 liverworts and 135 mosses. The ecology, taxonomy, and distribution of each taxon are provided and discussed in a systematic catalog. Although particularly arid and lacking permanent watercourses, AlUla County has proven to be surprisingly rich in bryophytes.
