Background: Endurance athletes tend to accumulate large training volumes, the majority of which are performed at a low intensity and a smaller portion at moderate and high intensity. However, different training intensity distributions (TID) are employed to maximize physiological and performance adaptations.
Objective: The objective of this study was to conduct a systematic review and network meta-analysis of individual participant data to compare the effect of different TID models on maximal oxygen uptake (VO) and time-trial (TT) performance in endurance-trained athletes.

Implementation of a regional sepsis program to improve compliance with sepsis care bundles and optimize septic patient management and outcomes in the Emergency Department (ED). The program included a multifaceted intervention in 8 EDs: creation of a regional sepsis team, meetings, education (yearly 6-h course and site visits) and sepsis alert. Clinical practice was evaluated in each ED during 1 month every year over 3 years.

Background: The feasibility of trials in liver surgery using a single-component clinical endpoint is low because single endpoints require large samples due to their low incidence. The current study sought to develop and validate a novel composite endpoint of liver surgery (CELS) to facilitate the generation of more feasible and robust high-level evidence in the field of liver surgery.
Methods: Patients who underwent curative-intent hepatectomy for hepatocellular carcinoma, intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, or colorectal liver metastasis were identified using a multi-institutional database.

The EWSR1::CREM rearranged intra-abdominal malignant epithelioid neoplasm is an emerging tumor, with only a few publications describing it to date. Here, we report two new cases of this highly aggressive tumor, primarily involving the peritoneal surface. The tumors presented as a widespread diffuse peritoneal lesion associated with a 4-cm pelvic mass in a 28-year-old woman (Case 1) and as a 10-cm intra-abdominal mass infiltrating the stomach with multiple hepatic metastases in a 53-year-old woman (Case 2).

About one-fifth of people in industrialised countries are tattooed, potentially putting them at risk of exposure to possible carcinogenic or otherwise harmful substances. This study aims to determine the exposure to soluble tattoo ink ingredients and their excretion within 24 h after tattooing. In this clinical study, 24 subjects were tattooed with black or red tattoo ink to which the 3 tracer substances, potassium iodide, 4-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) and 2-phenoxyethanol (PEtOH), had been added to mimic known substances found in tattoo inks.

Blast quantification in the bone marrow (BM) is crucial for evaluating myeloid neoplasms, with cytomorphology being the only recognized analysis. The CD34 myeloid cell (CD34M) count by flow cytometry is promising but impaired by BM hemodilution. A modified version of the Holdrinet index (mHI) is routinely used to assess it, though not yet validated.

Peptide , a C18 fatty acid-modified single-chain relaxin analogue, was recently identified as a potent, selective, and long-lasting relaxin family peptide receptor 1 (RXFP1) agonist. Further advanced pharmacokinetic profiling of this compound highlighted elevated levels of oxidative metabolism occurring in dogs and mini pigs but only marginally in rats. This study aimed to design long-lasting relaxin analogues with increased stability against metabolic oxidation while securing subnanomolar RXFP1 potency.

Three-dimensional (3D) in vitro cell culture models are invaluable tools for investigating the tumor microenvironment (TME). However, analyzing the impact of critical stromal elements, such as extracellular matrix (ECM), remains a challenge. Here, we developed a hydrogel-free self-assembly platform to establish ECM-rich 3D "MatriSpheres" to deconvolute cancer cell-ECM interactions.

Water availability has critical impacts on numerous physiological functions in all organisms and can have different effects across life stages. For example, water available to reproductive females can influence offspring production, and has the potential to influence how early-stage offspring (e.g.

Immune checkpoint (ICP) blockade has shown limited effectiveness in glioblastoma (GBM), particularly in the mesenchymal subtype, where interactions between immune cells and glioblastoma cancer stem cells (GSCs) drive immunosuppression and therapy resistance. Tailoring ICPs specific to GSCs can enhance the antitumor immune response. This study proposes the use of lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) encapsulating CRISPR RNAs as an in vivo screening tool for ICPs in a syngeneic model of mesenchymal GSCs.

Comparative genomic studies of closely related taxa are important for our understanding of the causes of divergence on a changing Earth. This being said, the genomic resources available for marine intertidal molluscs are limited and currently, there are few publicly available high-quality annotated genomes for intertidal species and for molluscs in general. Here we report transcriptome assemblies for six species of Patellogastropoda and genome assemblies and annotations for three of these species (Scurria scurra, Scurria viridula and Scurria zebrina).

The rheological behavior of porous ionic liquids comprising ZIF-8 suspensions in two Newtonian ionic liquids - trihexyltetradecylphos- phonium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide and tri- hexyltetradecylphosphonium chloride - exhibited distinct and unexpected differences. ZIF-8 suspensions in the bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide-based liquid showed Bingham behavior with a measurable yield stress, whereas those in the chloride-based liquid remained Newtonian, even at high solid volume fractions of up to 17.4%.

Sourcing in chemical forensic science refers to the attribution of a sample to a specific source using a characteristic signature. It relies on the identification of chemical attribution signatures (CAS), including chemical markers such as residual synthetic precursors, impurities, reaction by-products and degradation products, or even metabolites. Undertaking CAS for chemical threat agents (CTA) can be used to provide an evidentiary link between the use of a given chemical and its precursor(s) to support forensic investigations.

We report on the U-shaped folding of flexible guest molecules of medicinal interest upon their inclusion into macrocyclic cavity of p-sulfonato-calix[4]arene in aqueous media. Alexidine and pentamidine are FDA-approved drug compounds currently rediscovered as potent membrane-targeting antibiotic adjuvants helping restore antibiotic activity against multidrug resistant bacteria pathogens. We have adopted host-guest and crystal engineering approach to study these drugs with a view of potential supramolecular formulations and/or crystal forms.

Issues: Dentists can play a key role in screening for psychoactive substances use. This systematic review aimed to identify the knowledge, attitudes and practices of dentists related to screening for use of psychoactive substances and the facilitating factors and barriers.
Approach: According to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses, four databases were searched until July 2024 to identify reports relating to screening for substance use by dentists.

The hidden value of adult informal care (IC) refers to the unaccounted value of informal care in overall costs of long-term care (LTC) estimates. This paper estimates the net value of adult IC in Europe, drawing on a well-being-based methodology. We use an instrumental variable strategy and a longitudinal and cross-country dataset to estimate the causal effect of the extensive and intensive margin of caregiving on subjective well-being.
