Objective: This expert opinion presents provisional guidelines for addressing complications associated with Additively Manufactured Subperiosteal Jaw Implants (AMSJI®) in patients with severe maxillary atrophy. AMSJI®'s custom design, supported by finite element analysis (FEA), allows precise placement that avoids critical anatomical structures and minimizes complications relative to alternative solutions.
Materials And Methods: Data were gathered through firsthand experiences, direct communications, and insights from international workgroup meetings.

We describe an oculofacial injury phenotype manifesting as a cleavage plane following the orbitomalar ligament in 5 cases. Across these cases, curvilinear wounds followed the course of the orbitomalar ligament, running clean planes through orbicularis oculi down to the infraorbital rim and arcus marginalis. One case involved bilateral orbitomalar ligaments, and 1 case involved the inferior canaliculus.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical features, surgical treatments, and outcomes of pediatric post-traumatic nasolacrimal duct obstructions and predictors for surgical outcomes.
Methods: A retrospective chart review was performed of patients under the age of 18 years with the diagnosis of traumatic nasolacrimal duct obstructions during an 11-year period from a tertiary referral center. The clinical data were reviewed and analyzed.
Introduction: To report 5 cases of concomitant traumatic macular hole (TMH) and orbital fracture, and discuss its incidence.
Methods: This was a retrospective, observational study including all patients with orbital fracture who were referred to us from May 2013 to December 2023. Axial and coronal orbital computed tomographic images with bone and soft tissue window algorithms and optical coherence tomographic images were obtained from all patients.

Objective: Blowout fractures are a significant component of maxillofacial trauma care, but their incidence appears to be declining in South Korea. This study aims to investigate the trends in blowout fracture cases from 2010 to 2023 and assess the implications for plastic and reconstructive surgery, as well as the financial burden on patients.
Methods: A retrospective observational study was conducted using data from the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service in South Korea.

This study aimed to examine the clinical features and assess the surgical outcomes of traumatic optic neuropathy in pediatric patients. A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 15 cases (17 eyes) of traumatic optic neuropathy in pediatric patients aged 1 to 6 years between January 2015 and July 2024. Two of them presented with binocular trauma, resulting in a total of 17 affected eyes.

Reconstructing the orbit following complex craniofacial fractures presents significant challenges. Throughout the years, several materials have been used for orbital reconstruction, taking into account factors such as their durability, compatibility with living tissue, cost efficiency, safety, and capacity to be adjusted during surgery. Nevertheless, a consensus has not yet been reached on the optimal material for orbital restoration.

Objective: To evaluate the impact of Medpor implantation on extraocular muscle function, eye movement disorders, and diplopia in patients with orbital wall fracture.
Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on 98 patients (98 eyes) who underwent Medpor implantation surgery at Bethune International Peace Hospital from January 2019 to December 2022. The degree of eyeball enophthalmos and total fracture area in patients before and after surgery, as well as orbital volume were measured.

We report a rare case of Saturday Night Retinopathy (SNR) following postoperative orbital compression bandaging, highlighting the value of multimodal imaging in diagnosis and management. A 24-year-old male underwent surgical repair of an inferior orbital wall fracture with an absorbable implant, followed by compression bandaging of the right eye for three days. Upon bandage removal, the patient experienced a significant drop in visual acuity (VA) from 20/20 to 20/200.

Purpose: To assess the anatomical and functional outcomes in patients who underwent surgery for canalicular laceration and did not experience significant epiphora, and to compare these outcomes with contralateral uninjured eye.
Method: Dacryoscintigraphy, anterior segment optical coherence tomography (OCT), MUNK scores, and a satisfaction questionnaire were administered to 24 patients who had canalicular laceration repair without significant epiphora and had a minimum of 6 months of follow-up. Tear meniscus height (TMH), depth (TMD), and area (TMA) were measured using anterior segment OCT and compared with the values in the uninjured eye.

Military conflicts, terrorist attacks and wars around the world pose a wide range of questions to the medical community about providing medical care to military personnel and civilians with mine-explosive trauma, which is characterized by simultaneous damage of various anatomical areas, including the maxillofacial region. The purpose of this work was to describe a case from practice of treating a patient with a mine-explosive trauma, which manifested by a fracture of the right zygomatic-orbital complex and the upper jaw on the right. Using own case from practice, the authors showed that the treatment of patients with mine-explosive trauma of the maxillofacial region is long-term, multi-stage and should take place in a specialized hospital with the involvement of a team of multidisciplinary specialists.

This article discusses the application of three-dimensional (3D) printing in reconstructing the orbital floor of a middle-aged male patient who suffered an orbital fracture due to a fall. A virtual 3D model of the fractured orbit was created using open-source software, allowing for the planning of the defect reconstruction by mirroring the contralateral orbit. A metal reconstruction plate was then molded based on the 3D printed model, sterilized, and utilized during surgery, which resulted in reduced surgical time and improved adaptation.

Purpose: Despite there being different materials for orbital floor reconstruction available today, outcomes are still not satisfying. In recent years, ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) has gained popularity in the field of orthopedic surgery due to its good biocompatibility and low infection rate. With its three-dimensional compound structure, it combines high stability and ductility, making it a potential material to be used for orbital floor reconstruction.

Periorbital emphysema following nose blowing or sneezing is rare. Although it is often self-limiting, air trapping in the orbit can raise the intraocular pressure leading to visual complications. At present, the literature on this topic is confined to case reports.
