Purpose: Achieving and maintaining an optimal reduction in partially or fully displaced intra-articular fractures, specifically Type C distal radius fractures, can present challenges. Background: Although it is well established that antibiotic prophylaxis is not needed in soft tissue upper extremity cases, there is still no definitive consensus when hardware implantation is involved. Purpose: Osteoporotic patients are at risk of peri-implant fractures after distal radius fixation. A unicortical screw in the proximal hole of the plate can theoretically decrease stress riser formation by eliminating the hole in the far bone cortex. This construct has been proposed in orthopedic literature to prevent peri-implant fractures but has not been tested in an osteoporotic distal radius model.

A 27-year-old man sustained right ring and little finger proximal interphalangeal joint fracture dislocations. He subsequently underwent bilateral hemi-hamate autograft to treat these intra-articular injuries. The patient was followed periodically and demonstrated return of normal grip strength and radiographic union of the hemi-hamate reconstruction arthroplasties.

Hook of Hamate Regrowth After Surgical Excision: A Report of Two Cases.

Purpose: Fixation of metacarpal or phalanx bone fractures is usually performed under general anesthesia (GA) or regional anesthesia and with the use of a tourniquet to minimize bleeding. However, the use of tourniquet causes pain and discomfort after surgery. Wide-awake local anesthesia no tourniquet (WALANT) enables the surgery to be performed with the patient fully awake and without a tourniquet, which allows intraoperative assessment of function during surgery.

Purpose: This study aimed to identify which patients were "unsafe" for outpatient surgery patients and determine the most predictive demographic and clinical factors contributing to postoperative risk following open reduction internal fixation for distal radius fractures.

Methods: Adult patients (aged ≥18 years) who presented with distal radius fracture and underwent open reduction internal fixation were identified using the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program database for years 2016 to 2021. Patients who were deemed "unsafe" therefore contraindicated for outpatient open reduction internal fixation of distal radius fracture if they required admission (length of stay of one or more days) or experienced any complication or required readmission within 7 days of the index operation.

Purpose: Historically, infraclavicular brachial plexus injuries (IBPIs) were considered neuropraxic injuries that would improve with nonsurgical intervention. However, more recent studies suggest that these injuries may benefit from surgical intervention. The aims of this retrospective study were to (1) describe injury patterns and associated injuries of isolated, traumatic IBPIs, (2) evaluate the concordance of preoperative ultrasound and magnetic resonance neurography with surgical findings of patients who underwent surgical intervention for IBPIs, and (3) describe outcomes of surgical intervention for these injuries.

Objective: In a recent sham-controlled 13-session prolonged continuous theta burst stimulation intervention protocol, recovery from upper limb fracture at both 1 and 3 months was better than anticipated in patients assigned to the sham intervention group. To determine whether potential placebo effect and close patient monitoring affected recovery, the current study aimed to compare clinical outcomes between sham-treated participants who also received standard care with similarly injured patients who only received standard care.

Methods: Twenty participants with isolated upper limb fractures from the sham group were seen 13 times post-fracture (1 baseline session, 10 treatments, and 2 follow-ups [1 and 3 months]) over 3 months.

The most common surgical procedure to manage the malunion of the bones is corrective osteotomy. The current gold standard for securing the bone segments after osteotomy is the use of titanium plates and allografts which have disadvantages such as possible allergic reaction, additional operations such as extraction of the graft from other sites and removal operation. The utilization of resorbable materials presents an opportunity to mitigate these drawbacks but has not yet been thoroughly researched in the literature.
