Objectives: This study aims to investigate the impact of comorbidity with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) on the survival rates and incidence of liver cancer in patients with alcohol-related liver disease (ARLD).

Methods: Patients with ARLD and those with ARLD co-morbid with CHB were included in this study and designated as the ARLD group and the ARLD + HBV group, respectively. Propensity score matching (PSM) was then employed to compare survival rates and liver cancer development between these two groups.

Background: Granulosa cell proliferation and survival are essential for normal ovarian function and follicular development. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have emerged as important regulators of cell proliferation and differentiation. Nuclear paraspeckle assembly transcript 1 (NEAT1) has been implicated in various cellular processes, but its role in granulosa cell function remains unclear.

Pathological roles of ubiquitination and deubiquitination systems in sepsis-induced myocardial dysfunction.

Biomol Biomed

January 2025

Department of Critical Care Medicine, Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University, Medical school of Nantong University, Jiangsu, China.

Sepsis-induced myocardial dysfunction (SIMD) is a severe complication of sepsis, characterized by impaired cardiac function and high mortality rates. Despite significant advances in understanding sepsis pathophysiology, the molecular mechanisms underlying SIMD remain incompletely elucidated. Ubiquitination and deubiquitination, critical post-translational modifications (PTMs) regulating protein stability, localization, and activity, play pivotal roles in cellular processes, such as inflammation, apoptosis, mitochondrial function, and calcium handling.

Based on network pharmacology and molecular docking methods, this study explored its active compounds and confirmed its potential mechanism of action against Hand-foot skin reaction induced by tumor-targeted drugs. Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Database and Analysis Platform and UniProt Database were used to obtain the active ingredients and target proteins of Spatholobi Caulis. All hand-foot skin reaction (HFSR)-related targets were obtained with the help of the Human Gene Database, Online Mendelian Inheritance in Humans (OMIM), DisGeNET and DrugBank databases.

Background: The arterial stiffening is attributed to the intrinsic structural stiffening and/or load-dependent stiffening by increased blood pressure (BP). The respective lifetime alterations and major determinants of the two components with normal aging are not clear.

Methods: A total of 3053 healthy adults (1922 women) aged 18-79 years were enrolled.

Bibliometric Analysis of Neuroinflammation and Postoperative Cognitive Dysfunction.

Brain Behav

January 2025

Department of Anesthesiology, the Second Hospital, Cheeloo College of Medicine, Shandong University, Jinan, People's Republic of China.

Background: The occurrence and development of postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) are closely linked to neuroinflammation. This bibliometric analysis aims to provide novel insights into the research trajectory, key research topics, and potential future development trends in the field of neuroinflammation-induced POCD.

Methods: The Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database was searched to identify publications from 2012 to 2023 on neuroinflammation-induced POCD.

Background: With the aging of society, cognitive impairment in elderly people is becoming increasingly common and has caused major public health problems. The screening of cognitive impairment in elderly people and its related influencing factors can aid in the development of relevant intervention and improvement strategies.

Methods: In this study, stratified random cluster sampling was used to conduct a cross-sectional survey of elderly individuals aged 65 years in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, through an electronic questionnaire from November 2022 to November 2023.

Inflammatory Markers and Risk of Parkinson's Disease: A Population-Based Analysis.

Parkinsons Dis

December 2024

Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Zigong First People's Hospital, 42 Shangyihao Yizhi Street, Zigong, Sichuan, China.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is an important cause of neurological dysfunction, and the aim of this study was to explore whether neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR), systemic inflammatory response (SIRI), and systemic immune inflammation (SII) are associated with the risk of developing PD. Based on this, we may identify people at high risk for PD and intervene early. Our study included 31,480 participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) between 2001 and 2018.

Background: Endothelial cells are integral components of the tumor microenvironment and play a multifaceted role in tumor immunotherapy. Targeting endothelial cells and related signaling pathways can improve the effectiveness of immunotherapy by normalizing tumor blood vessels and promoting immune cell infiltration. However, to date, there have been no comprehensive studies analyzing the role of endothelial cells in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate adenocarcinoma (PRAD).

Background: Various measures of arterial stiffness have been linked to the risk of cardiovascular disease. However, the relationship between the estimated pulse wave velocity (ePWV), a novel indicator of arterial stiffness, and cardio-cerebrovascular disease risk remains unclear. This study investigated the relationship between the ePWV and the risk of cardio-cerebrovascular diseases.

Background: Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) enables a non-invasive measurement of tissue oxygen saturation (StO) in regions illuminated by near-infrared lights. Vascular occlusion test (VOT) serves as a model to artificially induce forearm ischemia-reperfusion. The combination of StO monitoring and VOT allows for dynamic evaluation of the balance between oxygen delivery and consumption in tissue, as well as the functional reserve of microcirculation.

Although pleomorphic adenomas of the salivary glands are benign tumors, they can metastasize to distant organs without evidence of malignant transformation. We describe FDG PET/CT finding in a case of metastasizing pleomorphic adenoma in the right ilium occurring 22 years after initial surgical resection of a lip pleomorphic adenoma. On FDG PET/CT, the iliac metastasis appeared as an expansile osteolytic lesion with heterogeneous activity.
