Unlabelled: Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is an acute inflammatory polyradiculoneuropathy. Progressive limb weakness, diminished/absent reflexes, sensory disturbance, and variable autonomic dysfunction are its core clinical manifestations. Bifacial weakness with paraesthesias (BFP) is a rare regional variant of GBS and is characterized by simultaneous facial diplegia, distal paraesthesias and minimal or no motor weakness.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common breathing disorder affecting millions of people worldwide. The disorder is connected with serious consequences including hypertension, myocardial infarction, arrhythmias, coronary disease, cardiac insufficiency, stroke, transient ischemic attack, and cognitive decline. Epidemiological data assessing the prevalence of OSA in different countries vary in methodology, size, and characteristics of population chosen and thus are hardly comparable.

Lipoteichoic acid (LTA), a major component of the cell wall of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), is not generally considered as an ideal vaccine candidate since it is a thymus-independent antigen. In this study, we screened a 12-mer phage peptide library and identified a series of peptide sequences that can mimic the epitope of LTA.

Aims: Impaired left ventricular diastolic function leading to elevated left atrial pressures, particularly during exertion, is a key driver of symptoms and outcomes in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). Insertion of an interatrial shunt device (IASD) to reduce left atrial pressure in HFpEF has been shown to be associated with short-term haemodynamic and symptomatic benefit. We aimed to investigate the potential effects of IASD placement on HFpEF survival and heart failure hospitalization (HFH).

Objective To study the role of DNA hydroxymethylase 10-11 translocation 2 (TET2) in macrophage activation and polarization. Methods RAW264.7 macrophages were cultured in vitro and stimulated with 100 ng/mL LPS for 0, 1, 2, 4, 6 hours.

Aims: Heart failure with preserved (HFpEF) and mid-range ejection fraction (HFmrEF) are becoming the most prevalent forms of heart failure. Patients with HFpEF/HFmrEF in atrial fibrillation (AF) have poorer survival and quality of life, but the mechanism underpinning this is unknown. We sought to investigate the influence of AF on the haemodynamic profile of HFpEF/HFmrEF patients at rest and during exercise.

Background: Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction has a complex pathophysiology and remains a therapeutic challenge. Elevated left atrial pressure, particularly during exercise, is a key contributor to morbidity and mortality. Preliminary analyses have demonstrated that a novel interatrial septal shunt device that allows shunting to reduce the left atrial pressure provides clinical and hemodynamic benefit at 6 months.

Self-assembled nanolayering structures have been reported in resin-dentin interfaces created by adhesives that contain 10-methacryloyloxydecyl dihydrogen phosphate (10-MDP). These structures have been hypothesized to contribute to bond durability. The objective of the present study was to determine the extent of nanolayering in resin-dentin interfaces after application of commercialized 10-MDP-containing self-etch and universal adhesives to human dentin.

Background: Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) is a rare interstitial lung disease characterized by abnormal smooth muscle-like cell (LAM cell) proliferation in the lung stroma. The origin of LAM cells is still unknown. The gold-standard immunohistochemical diagnostic for LAM is an immunopositive reaction to the HMB-45 antibody.

Background: Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) is a progressive, rare interstitial lung disease that almost exclusively affects women. It is caused by a mutation in one of the tuberous sclerosis genes, TSC1 or TSC2, and constitutive activation of the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway in smooth muscle-like cells (LAM cells). The heightened proliferation and accumulation of LAM cells leads to the destruction of lung tissue.

Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is defined as persistent proteinuria corresponding to a urinary albumin excretion rate >300 μg/mg in the absence of other non-diabetic renal diseases. The aim of this study was to determine if ultrasound (US)-mediated microbubble (MB) destruction could increase renal interstitial capillary permeability in early DN rats. Diabetes was induced with streptozotocin.
