Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are thought to have great potential in the therapy of acute liver injury. It is possible that these cells may be regulated by the stromal cell-derived factor-1 (SDF-1)/CXC chemokine receptor-4 (CXCR4) signaling axis, which has been shown to promote stem cells migration in the inflammation-associated diseases. However, the effects of SDF-1/CXCR4 axis on the MSCs-transplantation-based treatment for acute liver injury and the underlying mechanisms are largely unknown.

We used cell-free culture filtrate of as a reducing mediator of AgNO to silvernanoparticles (AgNPs) and possibly used as a potential anticancer agent against thyroid cancer cells (TPC1). The bio-generation of AgNPs was firmly established by taking a UV spectrum at 380-500 nm wavelength. The Fourier transform spectrum analysis reveals the association of alcohol, phenol and aromatic functional groups with synthesized AgNPs (-AgNPs).

Nonhuman Primate Model of Oculocutaneous Albinism with and Mutations.

Research (Wash D C)

March 2020

Division of Ophthalmic Genetics, The Eye Hospital, Laboratory for Stem Cell & Retinal Regeneration, Institute of Stem Cell Research, Wenzhou Medical University, Wenzhou 325027, China.

Human visual acuity is anatomically determined by the retinal fovea. The ontogenetic development of the fovea can be seriously hindered by oculocutaneous albinism (OCA), which is characterized by a disorder of melanin synthesis. Although people of all ethnic backgrounds can be affected, no efficient treatments for OCA have been developed thus far, due partly to the lack of effective animal models.

Objective: Retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) degenerative death is an evident hallmark of advanced age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The present study aims to evaluate the protective effects of S-allyl L-cysteine (SAC), a bioactive component from aged garlic extracts, on the oxidative stress-related apoptosis of RPE cells and to investigate the potential underlying mechanisms.

Materials And Methods: Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assay, flow cytometry, and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP-biotin nick end labeling (TUNEL) staining were performed to evaluate the effects of SAC on the hydroquinone-treated human ARPE19 cells.

Background: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM). Carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) is considered a preclinical stage of atherosclerosis. Therefore, it is necessary to identify the related risk factors for CIMT to facilitate the early prevention of CVD.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the elastic modulus values of normal liver tissue in school-age children by shear wave elastography (SWE) and to study the factors that influence these stiffness measurements.

Methods: Six hundred and four school-age children (295 girls and 309 boys) who were recruited at a hospital and had normal results of specific laboratory tests and imaging studies underwent SWE examinations. The elastic modulus values were obtained in segment V and VI for each subject and comparisons were made between age groups.

Rationale: Hallermann-Streiff syndrome (HSS) is a rare congenital disorder characterized by craniofacial malformations, sparse hair, degenerative skin changes, eye abnormalities, dental defects, and proportionate short stature.

Patient Concerns: A 24-year-old Chinese male patient presented to the ophthalmologist because of his sore eye and blurred vision.

Diagnoses: The final diagnosis of presented case is HSS having the main features of the syndrome, however, associated with uncommon ocular features, ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) and optical coherence tomography (OCT)changes, including aphakia, glaucoma, long eye axes, cilliary abnormalities, and chorioretinal atrophy.

Emerging evidence has demonstrated that regulatory noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs), such as long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) and miRNAs, play crucial roles in the initiation and progress of myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury (MIRI), which is associated with autophagy, apoptosis and necrosis of cardiomyocytes, as well as oxidative stress, inflammation and mitochondrial dysfunction. LncRNAs serve as a precursor or host of miRNAs and directly/indirectly affecting miRNAs via competitive binding or sponge effects. Simultaneously, miRNAs post-transcriptionally regulate the expression of genes by targeting various mRNA sequences due to their imperfect pairing with mRNAs.
