With the increasing use of lithium-ion batteries, the exposure and health effects of lithium nickel manganate cobalt (NMC), a popular cathode material for the battery, have attracted widespread attention. However, the main absorption routes and target organs of NMC are unknown. This study aims to systematically investigate the main absorption routes and target organs of NMC.

Background: Diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH) is a systemic non-inflammatory disorder characterized by enthesopathy and osteophyte formation. DISH can also cause several other symptoms. Limited range of motion (ROM) is the most common symptom; however, dysphagia and respiratory distress are clinically important symptoms.

Foreign body aspiration (FBA) is a common issue in children, particularly boys, and can be life-threatening. Early removal of the foreign body (FB) leads to recovery, but delayed diagnosis may cause complications such as granuloma, recurrent pneumonia, and atelectasis. This condition often results from a child's curiosity, with factors such as inadequate swallowing reflex and activity during eating contributing to the risk.

To investigate the characteristics of respiratory-swallow coordination (RSC) in poststroke dysphagia (PSD) patients following infratentorial stroke (IS) and further explore their association with aspiration. PSD patients after IS and age-matched healthy controls were recruited. Nasal airflow and sound signals were recorded using a nasal cannula-type flow sensor and contact microphone, which were synchronized with videofluoroscopic swallowing studies (VFSS).

Esophagectomy and lymphadenectomy for esophageal cancer carry an inherent risk of recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) injury. Intraoperative nerve monitoring (IONM) may help prevent RLN damage, though evidence on its effectiveness is still limited. This systematic review and meta-analysis (SRMA) evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of IONM during minimally invasive esophagectomy (MIE) for esophageal cancer.

Background: Aspiration pneumonia (AP) is a common complication in the intensive care unit (ICU), which is associated with significantly increased morbidity and mortality and has a significant impact on patient prognosis. Antibiotics are commonly used in the clinical treatment of AP. However, the prognostic impact of antibiotics on patients with AP has not been adequately characterized.

Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a complex disorder with a high degree of interindividual variability. Gastrointestinal dysfunction is common in patients with COPD and has been proposed to influence the clinical progression of the disease. Using the presence of bile acid(s) (BA) in bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid as a marker of gastric aspiration, we evaluated the relationships between BAs, clinical outcomes and bacterial lung colonisation.

Foreign body (FB) aspiration in children is a common emergency. Traditionally, rigid bronchoscopy has been considered to be the mainstay for removal. However, in certain cases, flexible bronchoscopy can prove to be a better option and avoid thoracic surgery and unnecessary morbidity.

Background: Extraction of wisdom tooth is one of the most common surgical interventions, as it is more prone for impaction. Due to the pain and anxiety associated with the procedure, it is common to do this procedure under conscious sedation. However unexpected events do occur during the procedure and one such complication along with the prompt management is discussed here.

Monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance combined with renal damage is named monoclonal gammopathy of renal significance. There are few reports about IgA vasculitis in patients with monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance. Here, we report a case of monoclonal gammopathy of renal significance, who had manifestations of IgA vasculitis, including purpura, gastrointestinal bleeding and joint pain.

Lung cancer is a serious global health issue that requires the development of patient-specific, lung cancer model for surgical planning to train interventionalists and improve the accuracy of biopsies. Although the emergence of three-dimensional (3D) printing provides a promising solution to create customized models with complicated architectures, current 3D printing methods cannot accurately duplicate anatomical-level lung constructs with tumor(s) which are applicable for hands-on training and procedure planning. To address this issue, an embedded printing strategy is proposed to create respiratory bronchioles, blood vessels, and tumors in a photocurable yield-stress matrix bath.

Pyogenic liver abscess (PLA) is a serious infectious disease with high mortality. The aim of our study was to compare the efficacy of percutaneous needle aspiration (PNA) and percutaneous catheter drainage (PCD) for PLA and to assess risk factors for unfavorable prognosis. This retrospective study was performed between 2017 to 2019 in a Chinese tertiary care hospital.

Introduction: The incidence of severe BPD (sBPD), defined as needing oxygen or positive pressure at 36 weeks corrected gestational age (CGA), has remained unchanged. These infants are at risk for developing late pulmonary hypertension (LPHN) or needing surgical interventions such as Gastrostomy Tubes (GT) or Tracheostomy Tubes (TT). The finding of pepsin in the lungs of infants who were extremely low birth weight (ELBW) with sBPD has led to the speculation that gastroesophageal reflux (GER) and aspiration could contribute to their lung disease.

A 71-year-old man with follicular lymphoma of the right inguinal lymph node was referred to our hospital owing to mediastinal lymph node enlargement (left #12). The patient had a history of cyclosporine (CYS-A) and steroid therapy for fibrotic hypersensitivity pneumonitis. Endobronchial ultrasound-transbronchial aspiration and endobronchial ultrasound-guided intranodal forceps biopsy (EBUS-IFB) were performed under conscious sedation using midazolam and fentanyl.

Pancreaticopleural fistula (PPF) is a rare complication of chronic pancreatitis, which clinically presents as a pleural effusion and often with an absence of typical abdominal symptoms associated with pancreatic disease. We describe a man in his early 50s who presented to the emergency department with pleuritic chest pain and progressive breathlessness with a history of alcohol excess. Chest X-ray demonstrated a bilateral pleural effusion with a dark red amylase-rich exudate on needle aspiration, necessitating a chest drain insertion.

Endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) is an established technique for lung cancer staging and the diagnosis of mediastinal diseases. Recently, the paradigm of EBUS guided mediastinal sampling with conventional cytology has shifted over to histology specimens through the use of cryobiopsy. This case series explores the novel technique, key enablers, and potential advantages of endoscopic ultrasound with bronchoscope-guided transesophageal cryobiopsy (EUS-B-TEC).
