Cartilage lesions to the ankle joint are common and can result in pain and functional limitations. Surgical treatment aims to restore the damaged cartilage's integrity and quality. However, the current evidence for establishing best practices in ankle cartilage repair is characterized by limited quality and a low level of evidence.

Objective: Müller-Weiss disease (MWD) is a challenging condition involving the perinavicular region in the initial stages and subsequently the entire foot in the later stages. The goal of this article is to describe the pathomechanics, clinical evaluation, and nonoperative and operative treatment, including a treatment algorithm, based on current evidence and the combined authors' experience.
Design: We review the related articles and summarize the information about this condition.

Nontraumatic pain in the first metatarsophalangeal joint is frequent and can be debilitating. The metatarsophalangeal joint complex comprises four articulating surfaces including the first metatarsal, the proximal phalanx, and tibial and fibular sesamoids, which are all contained within a synovial capsule. The most common causes of pain are hallux valgus and hallux rigidus.

Background: The Trabecular Metal (Zimmer Biomet, Warsaw, IN) total ankle arthroplasty (TAA) system uses a lateral approach with a fibular osteotomy to gain access to the tibiotalar joint and a sagittally curved tibial component. This is the first TAA system to laterally approach the ankle, and few studies have explored outcomes associated with this implant. This study aimed to report the 5-year clinical and radiographic outcomes as well as the survivorship of the implant.

End-stage ankle arthritis typically affects an active younger patient population as compared with hip and knee arthritis. The optimal surgical treatment depends on several patient-specific factors. Open ankle arthrodesis has achieved reliable outcomes for this condition over years; however, arthroscopic techniques seem to be advantageous and feasible even in cases with significant intraarticular deformity.

Background: We investigated the influence of sex on patient-reported outcomes preoperatively and following total ankle replacement and ankle arthrodesis.
Methods: Patients who had undergone total ankle replacement or ankle arthrodesis for the treatment of end-stage ankle arthritis and who had ≥2 years of follow-up were identified from the Canadian Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society Prospective Ankle Reconstruction Database. Standard surgical techniques and implantation methods were followed, and STAR, Hintegra, Mobility, and Agility prostheses were used.

Background: Distal biceps tendon tears can cause weakness and fatigue with activities requiring elbow flexion and supination. Surgical management of chronic tears (>21 days) is not well described in the literature.
Purpose: To determine the clinical outcomes of chronic distal biceps repairs and reconstructions.

Purpose: Rotator cuff repair is a commonly performed shoulder procedure. In the past 20 years, there has been a shift from mini-open towards arthroscopic repair, and many units exclusively use arthroscopic techniques for rotator cuff surgery. The aim of this study was to find out whether withholding antibiotics had any effect on the infection rate in patients undergoing arthroscopic rotator cuff repair.

Foot and ankle sports injuries encompass a wide spectrum of conditions from simple contusions or sprains that resolve within days to more severe injuries that change the trajectory of an athlete's sporting career. If missed, severe injuries could lead to prolonged absence from the sport and therefore a catastrophic impact on future performance. In this article, we discuss the presentation of the commonest foot and ankle sports injuries and share recent evidence to support an accurate diagnosis and best management practice.

As the scope of podiatric surgery expands, the relative roles and outcomes of orthopedic surgeons and podiatrists need to be defined. With growing demand for foot and ankle services, the roles of podiatrists and orthopedic surgeons are increasingly overlapping. Few studies have examined the overlapping scope of practice of each of the groups or compared the relative costs and outcomes associated with each.

The management of Lisfranc injuries is challenging considering the broad spectrum of energy involved and highly variable clinical presentation. Despite the advances in surgical techniques, subtle Lisfranc injuries can lead to chronic pain and permanent disability. Surgical treatment is mandatory for all the unstable injuries; however, the best surgical technique remains controversial.

Introduction: This study is to report the prevalence of osteochondral lesions in subtalar joint following intra-articular calcaneal fracture, including the relationship between fracture severity and lesion characteristics, using modified computed tomography (CT) mapping analysis.
Methods: Thirty patients with intra-articular calcaneal fracture who were preoperatively imaged with modified CT mapping analysis were recruited. The presence of talar-sided osteochondral lesions (OLTS) of subtalar joint was noted with lesion area defined by Akiyama's mapping classification.
