Scope: To investigate anti-aging effects of probiotic-fermented kelp enzymatic hydrolysate culture (KMF), probiotic-fermented kelp enzymatic hydrolysate supernatant (KMFS), and probiotic-fermented kelp enzymatic hydrolysate bacteria suspension (KMFP) in D-galactose-induced aging mice.

Methods And Results: The study uses a probiotic-mixture of Lactobacillus reuteri, Pediococcus pentosaceus, and Lactobacillus acidophilus strains for kelp fermentation. KMF, KMFS, and KMFP prevent D-galactose-induced elevation of malondialdehyde levels in serum and brain tissue of aging mice, and they increase superoxide dismutase and catalase levels and total antioxidant capacity.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the anti-diabetic effect of CGSGCG and its beneficial effects on gut microbiota in type 2 diabetes (T2D) mice induced by streptozotocin and high sucrose and high fat diet. The results showed that treatment with CGSGCG reduced fasting blood glucose, improved oral glucose tolerance test, protected the liver from injury, and reduced inflammation in T2D mice. In recent decades, due to the increase in awareness, most consumers prefer foods that not only satisfy their primal urge of hunger but also include health-promoting effects on the body. Therefore, the food industry has an increasing tendency to apply the nutrients (like vitamins, essential fatty acids and minerals) and replace synthetic additives with natural bioactives (like phenolics and essential oils) to produce functional products. We have previously reported that the proanthocyanidin (PAC) fraction of blueberry leaf extract (BB-PAC) inhibits the proliferation of HTLV-1-infected adult T-cell leukemia (ATL) by inducing apoptosis. In the present study, we further analyzed the structure of BB-PAC and elucidated the molecular mechanism underlying the inhibitory function of HTLV-1-infected and ATL cells. After hot water extraction with fractionation with methanol-acetone, BB-PAC was found to be concentrated in fractions 4 to 7 (Fr7).
