Background: Certain demographics and/or risk factors contribute to complications following cervical spinal surgery including pseudarthrosis, prolonged pain, and reduced quality of life (QoL). Pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) stimulation is a non-invasive therapy that may enhance fusion success in at-risk patients.
Objective: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of post-operative adjunctive PEMF therapy following cervical spinal surgery in subjects at risk for pseudarthrosis.

Background: An abnormal postoperative lordosis distribution index (LDI), which quantifies the ratio between the lordosis at L4 to S1 and the lordosis at L1 to S1, contributes to the development of adjacent segment disease and increased revision rates in patients undergoing short-segment lumbar intervertebral fusions. Incorporating preoperative spinopelvic parameters and LDI into the surgical plan for short-segment fusion is important for guiding alignment restoration and preserving normal preoperative alignment in unfused segments. This study examined changes in LDI, segmental lordosis, and lordosis of the unfused levels in patients treated with personalized interbody cage (PIC) implants.

Background: Literature supports the need for improved techniques to achieve spinopelvic alignment and reduce complication rates in patients with adult spinal deformity (ASD). Personalized interbody devices were developed to address this need and are under evaluation in the multicenter Clinical Outcome Measures in Personalized aprevo (circle R superscript) Spine Surgery (COMPASS (TM suprascript) registry. This report presents interim COMPASS pre- and postoperative sagittal alignment results and complication rates for a subcohort of COMPASS patients diagnosed and surgically treated for spinal deformity.

Prior studies have demonstrated that care pathways targeting primary total joint arthroplasty may produce a halo effect, impacting more complex patients with parallel care pathways. However, neither the effect of regional referral changes from CJR nor the durability of these positive changes with prolonged bundle participation has been assessed.

The gold standard is to perform an ACL Reconstruction (ACLR). However, injuries to the proximal femoral attachment of the ACL have demonstrated an ability to regenerate.

Background: Systemic intravenous antimicrobials yield poor outcomes during treatment of periprosthetic joint infection due to the inability to obtain minimum biofilm eradication concentrations. This study evaluated the safety of a novel method of optimized local delivery of intra-articular antibiotics (IAAs).
Methods: This was a Phase II, multicenter, prospective randomized trial evaluating safety of a rapid (seven-day) two-stage exchange arthroplasty with IAA irrigation compared to standard two-stage exchange.

Aims & Objectives: With modern advancements in surgical techniques and rapid recovery protocols, incidence of outpatient total joint arthroplasty (TJA) is increasing. Previous literature has historically focused on cost, safety, and clinical outcomes, with few studies investigating patient expectations and experiences. The aim of this study was to survey preoperative patient expectations related to outpatient TJA surgery compared with perioperative perceptions and experience.

Aims: While internet search engines have been the primary information source for patients' questions, artificial intelligence large language models like ChatGPT are trending towards becoming the new primary source. The purpose of this study was to determine if ChatGPT can answer patient questions about total hip (THA) and knee arthroplasty (TKA) with consistent accuracy, comprehensiveness, and easy readability.
Methods: We posed the 20 most Google-searched questions about THA and TKA, plus ten additional postoperative questions, to ChatGPT.

Background: Lumbar spinal fusion surgeries are increasing steadily due to an aging and ever-growing population. Patients undergoing lumbar spinal fusion surgery may present with risk factors that contribute to complications, pseudarthrosis, prolonged pain, and reduced quality of life. Pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) stimulation represents an adjunct noninvasive treatment intervention that has been shown to improve successful fusion and patient outcomes following spinal surgery.

Prompt diagnosis of pelvic ring injuries is essential, and timely initial management is critical in the early resuscitation of polytraumatized patients. Definitive management of pelvic ring injuries continues to be a topic of much debate in the trauma community.

Prior studies have demonstrated a high incidence of ankle osteoarthritis (OA) in patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA) as well as inferior outcomes in the setting of ankle OA or hindfoot malalignment. Little is known about the effect of the 2 most common surgical treatments for ankle OA, ankle arthrodesis and total ankle arthroplasty (TAA) on TKA. This hypothesis is that the preservation of ankle motion afforded by total ankle arthroplasty may reduce pathologic stresses across the knee joint.

Case: A pediatric male patient sustained a postoperative infection of the femoral neck after open anatomic reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) of a Delbet type III femoral neck fracture. Treatment included surgical intervention with antibiotic Steinmann pins incorporated into an external fixator to provide stability to the femoral neck. At the 27-month follow-up, films showed complete healing with a 1.

Aims: Physician burnout and its consequences have been recognized as increasingly prevalent and important issues for both organizations and individuals involved in healthcare delivery. The purpose of this study was to describe and compare the patterns of self-reported wellness in orthopaedic surgeons and trainees from multiple nations with varying health systems.
Methods: A cross-sectional survey of 774 orthopaedic surgeons and trainees in five countries (Australia, Canada, New Zealand, UK, and USA) was conducted in 2019.

We report the case of A 34-year-old right-hand-dominant male who presented with an isolated left volar dislocation of the distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) without any associated fractures. The patient had sustained the injury in an altercation in the evening prior to the presentation and had woken up the next morning with left wrist pain and restricted wrist motion. Closed reduction was successful under conscious sedation and the patient was treated conservatively with splint immobilization without needing operative intervention.

A subscapularis-sparing approach avoids detachment but may make re-creation of the anatomy more difficult because of limited exposure. The primary aim of this study was to evaluate the ability to re-create the proximal humeral geometry and assess for osteophyte removal with this technique.

Reverse shoulder arthroplasty has increased in popularity and has provided improved but somewhat variable results. These variable outcomes may be related to many factors, including implant design, component positioning, specific indication, and patient anatomy. The original Grammont design provided a solution to the high failure rate at the time but was found to have a high rate of scapular notching and poor restoration of rotation.

Importance: Numerous studies have demonstrated that long-term outcomes after orthopedic trauma are associated with psychosocial and behavioral health factors evident early in the patient's recovery. Little is known about how to identify clinically actionable subgroups within this population.
Objectives: To examine whether risk and protective factors measured at 6 weeks after injury could classify individuals into risk clusters and evaluate whether these clusters explain variations in 12-month outcomes.

Introduction: Recent advances have led to the design of a new cephalomedullary nail, which aims to decrease the risk of failures in patients with intertrochanteric hip fractures by allowing for insertion of two interdigitating screws into the head segment. The goal of this study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of this two-screw cephalomedullary nailing system.
Patients/participants: Patients 18 years of age and older who underwent intramedullary nailing of their intertrochanteric femoral fracture using the InterTAN nailing system (Smith and Nephew, Memphis, TN) from 2012 to 2016 were included in this retrospective study which was performed at two urban certified level-1 trauma centers and one urban certified level-3 trauma center.
